Title: Horse size.
Post by: Techno on 13 October 2015, 07:37:50 PM
I'm never going to worry about making an out of scale horse again

This chap, 'Jake' is nearly 20.3 hands tall. ( 6' 8.75"  or 210.2 cm).......That's the measurement to what is effectively the base of his neck.
Goodness knows how far the tips of his ears are from the ground.  ;D ;D ;D ;D

I reckon the lass standing next to him is around 5' 10".....Maybe taller.  :-\

Cheers - Phil

... and according to the Guinness Book of Records, this is without shoes!

At first I thought, surely this ain't another one of Techno's tall stories .... turns out I was right.

Cor! A unit of those will probably make elephants test morale at -3!

I don't suppose the woman has been carefully selected for being 3'6" tall, has she?

I've just edited his height. :-[
He's not 6' 2" + to the base of his neck......It should have read 6' 8  3/4"

No, Kitty.
I'm pretty sure the lass is tall, rather than short.  ;D

I did see a lass who looked tiny, riding a horse many years ago.
It wasn't until the horse stood next to me, that I realised the young lady was perfectly 'normal' sized, and the horse was somewhat on the tall side. (18 hands).
That gee-gee above, would make the 18h horse look on the small side......Sheesh. :o

When I saw the title of this thread, I thought "well, Techno's bragging again".

I shall now use all my 15mm pack animals with Pendraken armies without any qualms.

He is not really bragging it Games Workshopitus

All those years working for the Evil Empire  makes the employees exaggerate.  You know how they call 15 Space Marines an army and 43 figures a Mega Army!!

Same with Techno  - He thinks he is making 28mm figures, that's how he gets them so detailed. :)

I 'learned to ride' (lol!) on a 19.3 HH Shire...whose sole aim in life was to munch his way to 20 Hands. I now have very long arms.

And yet people worry endlessly about whether Pendraken figures look out of scale next to Kallistra ones....

Until recently we had a large number of colleagues fron India.  Most were significantly slighter and shorter than us. Quite a few the top of thier heads barely reached my chest. and I am only 6 foot.

Coincidently, I'm currently reading about Albert Cashier in "The Irish in the American Civil War." Cashier enlisted in the 95th Illinois and was only 5ft 3ins tall. Then again, 'his' real name was Jennie Hodgers ...

A fair point, particularly in pre-firearm eras (firearms, of course, in real life would be the same size regardless of the height of the bearer).

Did that horse pose for the ones in the Thessalian cavalry set? They're intimidating great juggernauts; hope they won't dwarf my Newlines Hetairoi.

Ironically, I think I've got to bite the bullet and make a new 'big' horse for the Dragon men.  X_X

Vast amounts of industrial language already, as the wire frame keeps deciding to come apart. ~X( ~X( ~X(
Four trips to the barn, so far, to re-solder the damn thing.  >:( >:( >:( >:(

(I'll be all smiles later on, when Mr Frame decides to play nicely......Probably. ;))
