Title: New Flodden codes now available!
Post by: Leon on 09 October 2015, 11:31:51 PM
We hinted towards these in last month's newsletter and here they are!  These have been developed by a customer of ours along with Techno, bringing 22 new codes to our 16th C. English/Scots range and expanding it to include new French foot, English and Scot foot and mounted commands, and even some personalities!

The customer is doing an extremely large Flodden project so we're looking forward to seeing some pics of that when it's complete!

16th C. English / Scottish - http://www.pendraken.co.uk/Renaissance-c12/Early-16th-C-EnglishScots-sc44/ (http://www.pendraken.co.uk/Renaissance-c12/Early-16th-C-EnglishScots-sc44/)

ER26   Highlander foot command (16)   £2.50
ER27   French foot command (15)   £2.30
ER28   Heralds on foot (10)   £1.50
ER29   James IV of Scotland, mounted (1)   £0.70

Was never into the early renaissance before, but I think I will be getting at least one of these forces...
Or both...
With allies...

Dammit! These look great.

I've got a hole in my list of armies, (an army-hole, if you would) with nothing between the War of the Roses and the War of the Spanish Succession. I was contemplating a Covenanter / New Model Army type thing, but I am now severely tempted ...

I like. The command figures are all very nice, and I think some of the foot knights will be heading my soon.

Basis of a Dragonmen Army.....

Just so's you know  ;).........I have made these from 'historical' sized dollies, Nosher...(along with converting a lot of already existing figures).....So they'll be a wee bit smaller than the Warband Dragonmen that I'll be starting sometime relatively soon.

I've made new sized dollies for those particular chaps.

Awwww....Leon hasn't taken a piccy of my favourites yet.  ;)
(James & Surrey)
I think I'll have to scrounge some of those....'Bout time I got the paints out again. ;)

Thanks for the compliments, chaps ! Pleased you all seem to like them !  :)

Cheers - Phil

Hi Folks

I'm in the middle of painting some of these new figures at the moment. While they are not my project, I am painting them for the guy who commissioned them and I had a small part in the research and development of the new figures. I can tell you now that I have them in my grimy paws that they look even better than I'd hoped. The masters were stunning but Dave has really done a brilliant job of moulding Techno's masters into beautiful production figures with no loss of detail at all - that is skill !!!

I've done some of the gun crews already and I'm working on some mixed command figures at the moment. Should be able to put some WIP shots of these up once they have been varnished. Next up will be the English command and a pile of men at arms to front up the English billmen bases (the billmen are already painted).

As Leon says, it is a big project. James' division is on 40 60x30mm bases and contains 720 figures - without extras such as command stands. Overall something in excess of 4000 figures.

Leon,

Looking at the new codes released there seem to be some obvious types now missing such as rear rank Scots pike, highlanders, English bow and bill. Figures for these were available in the old range, can we assume that new figures are being mastered/moulded to remedy this.

Hi, not quite sure I follow there?  This lot are all additional codes on top of the existing ones, so the bill/bow/highlanders/etc are all still on the website, codes ER1-12: http://www.pendraken.co.uk/Renaissance-c12/Early-16th-C-EnglishScots-sc44/ (http://www.pendraken.co.uk/Renaissance-c12/Early-16th-C-EnglishScots-sc44/)

The new codes can be found on the front page of the renaissance section as well, but there codes ER1-12 don't appear. That might explain the confusion? http://www.pendraken.co.uk/Renaissance-c12/ (http://www.pendraken.co.uk/Renaissance-c12/)

No plans at the moment, as mentioned these were a customer commission job so not something we had on our schedule at all.  The sculptors are all tied up until 2017 really I'd think at this point.

Ah, apologies for that!  When we release new codes the website shows them on the home page (underneath the latest news) and within the landing page of each period as well, just to promote them as being new.  So these releases show in the Renaissance section but not the original 12 codes.

Hi guys,

Thanks for all of the really positive feedback on these releases. I am the mysterious "Mr X" who got Phil to do the sculpting and Tony, the painting! It has been a long term (decades plan) to do Anglo-Scots Wars armies ever since seeing the old Dixon Flodden range. However the project was never realistic in terms of mass representation until Pendraken started a range a while back. I suggested that one and Dave took me up. What a great team these guys are! However being a typical gaming anorak I always wanted to get further codes done and was fortunate enough to get this process going towards in 2013-prompted by the 500th anniversary.  Now we have them ! We tried to get them done in such a way that they could be used for other armies such as Italian Wars or even fantasy. So glad others see those potential uses.
Even within the Flodden concept, these figures have a range of uses. For example the French could be used not just as a minor force for the actual 1513 campaign but can be expanded into the 1522-3 conflict -another spin off from the main event of that year with Henry in France. The new codes Could also be used for the late 1520s Scots Civil War (obscure or what but Linlithgow Bridge anyone?). Plan is to get the Flodden armies done and hopefully on a big gaming table ( at the Glasgow and District Club)   in early part of next year for a refight. Will be sure to get some photos for the forum!
At some point might look at expanding and doing the 1540s Rough Wooing but that might need quite different looking Tudors and the addition of mounted arquebusiers and the like. However that is some way off!
Meantime kudos again to Leon and Dave for agreeing to  it; Phil for making it a reality and Tony for delivering painted armies with consummate skill! I cannot recommend "Team Flodden" enough!
Look forward to any more thoughts or comments!

Scott

Isn't it time you did something to yourself with a a dremel or scalpel - Or at least had several tons of Horse manure to shovel - anything to keep you gainfuly occupied and out of mischief?   :)

Hi guys

Thanks for all of the positive feedback on Flodden and sorry if this puts (more) temptation your way! Tony will, if time permits, get some more photos up on the forum as matters progress.

I am not new to 10mm. Been doing 10mm since about 2000 and currently have a big 2nd Boer War set up; NWF; AWI; 1745 Jacobites Indo China War and some WW2. As yet unpainted have War of the Pacific 1879....also do 6 and 3mm as well but that is another story.

Flodden is by far the biggest project I have undertaken by me and is likely to remain so-even my very tolerant wife has her limits! Plan is to refight the 1513 campaign but perhaps have options for what ifs eg more French support or for the English, perhaps some German mercenaries?

I do intend to fight the historical battle as well and that will mean that the lounge is converted into a gaming room for the day or weekend. Which means doing a deal with my wife about when to get the boys round....Oh and  a bit of furniture re-arrangement.

I am fortunate in having a good gaming set up which can be set up and taken down and which can accommodate big battles. I use two 12 by 3 feet fibreboards which can slot together using wooden dowel rods. Really lightweight and which can sit on two of those collapsible trestle tables much beloved of small traders at craft shows and the like.

I will be sure to get some photos of the battle when it is fought out. I am hoping for early part of 2016.

Looking forward to posting more on matters 10mil when time allows!

Scott

Of course you'll need to do one of the King on foot with his long spear, didn't he go into battle with his foot soldiers?

Hi Folks

Finally managed to find time to get a few pictures of the completed Flodden bases processed and onto my website, here ....

http://www.tinytintroops.co.uk/Galleries/New_Style/New_Page_09_Flodden.htm (http://www.tinytintroops.co.uk/Galleries/New_Style/New_Page_09_Flodden.htm)

Not the greatest pictures but they do show off some of the new sculpts, particularly the foot command figures and the foot men at arms.

A few samples below, a few more on the website and i'll upload more when I get the chance.

The flags are my own - I'm going to add a 'Flodden' range to the ones I already sell as soon as I get the time to sort out sheet layout etc.

They paint up really well, I'm quite pleased with them.

Now that I have sent this latest lot to the customer its back to painting my own WW1 stuff - when I'm not having to be 'sociable' over Xmas.

It's alright for you lot, you can admire Tony's stuff from afar. I have to face them over the table with my own average standard paint jobs.

Hi guys,

Flodden armies got their first public outing last Saturday at the Scottish Battlefields Trust Wargames Show held in Prestonpans. This was a display game from the Glasgow and District Wargaming Society.
If you visit www.gdws.co.uk and go to display games you will get some good pictures. The terrain had to be kept generic as have not yet organised more bespoke terrain. That will come. However did not stand in the way of a good game. We used Pike and Shotte rules for speed and ease of play. Good result delivered in a few hours. I commanded the English and Dave Watson, our club Secretary the Scots. Reversal of history this time with the Scots taking casualties to artillery fire but not being disrupted sufficiently to prevent forward momentum by fire or the boggy ground. Still English put up a hard fight and Scots were near to shaken morale, so could have gone either way.
Got lots of admiring comments and did some sales pitch for the world of 10mm!
Enjoy!
Hope to get another rerun in soon and when I do more pictures will be posted here.
