Morning all
Looking at WW I Belgians...specifically 1914
Are Magister Militum 10mm figures generally compatable
with Pendraken ones?
Looking at getting some infantry in "top hats" for carabinier cyclists and have to
have some dog teams for the mgs : )
MM are normally fairly chunky compared to Pendraken.
I have a lot of the MM WWI French, and they are generally bigger than Pendraken.
For Belgium troops you might want to look at Van Dyck figures too - I don't have any yet, but they look very detailed
Thanks for your input Fred :)
I had a look at van dyck site which i hadn't seen before ~ very nice....and they
make a Minerva armoured car ;)
The figures will be bigger as listed as 12mm but very detailed and exactly what i am after....
Looks like a mixture of all three on the cards 8)

I think the Van Dyck are listed as 1/144
Just make sure you close your eyes when you go to look at the postage

Well, being from belgium myself, i must admit our postal service is bloody expensive! Nothing to do with Van dyck!
I've had problems with it when i was selling my stuff on the lead adventure forum, As postage can come to a lot more than what you are selling.
I once wanted to send a padded envelope with some 100 CCG cards to the US, and got a quote of 28€ :o :o :o
It's a disgrace!
AS an example:
I have a small package of 1 kg. You send that package to me With international standard postage and that costs 8,26£ according to royal mail site
Send that same package back to the UK from belgium, costs you 12,8£ wich is a good 50% more expensive.
And that's only because UK is counted as a neighbouring country. IF i send that same package to Ireland for example, that would cost me 19,11£
To send that package to australia for example, that would cost me about 31,6£
It's a bloody disgrace!
Another example:
If i want to send a letter within belgium, in a rectangular envelope, i pay 0,77€. If i want to send that same letter in a square envelope, that costs me 1,54€
Go figure!
Strange maths.
And I thought the post in the UK was expensive.
Cheers - Phil
I just gave up on the whole 10mm Belgians thing and went 15mm. The only figure in that scale no one seems to make is the Civic Guard.

Yes, has something to do with the way they send things. Couple of years ago they decided to stop sending 'economy', and from then on, everything we send is priority. That's why they charge so much.
Well being in NZ high postage costs have been a fact of life when ordering stuff from overseas since I started gaming back in the 70's.
You want it then you pay for it to get here, so make sure you get what you need in one order ;D
I've never had a really bad experience buying stuff via post or internet, but up to the 90's most places used to insist on you paying fairly exorbitant "Post and Handling" charges of 40% or even 50% of the cost of the order to get stuff to NZ :d
But having found some very reliable sources in the UK (including Pendraken) who only charge postage at actual costs and have your order to you in 6-7 days the shipping costs are (a bit more) reasonable these days ;)
Looks like I'm painting myself into a corner - one less excuse not to get Belgians for Halen :-X
I already have lots of PM Germans and BEF in 10mm Leman, so I'll stick with that scale. I can live with ordering stuff from more than one source to get the overall force that I want to finish up with in 10mm. 8)
Thanks for the comments everyone.
I suppose the fact that my BEF was a ten year old 15mm army ecouraged me to stick with 15mm on the Western Front. Means I have Germans in two scales, but then the 10mm Germans are well catered for, and all mine do service on the Eastern Front.
It was only a couple of weeks ago Peter said

All I said was that they looked nice and my good lady would not necessarily be impressed at me getting more stuff (of any description) O:-)
At this rate the Belgians will be in NZ before I am ;) ;D

Begin Starwars Imperial Stormtrooper Accent "These are not the figures you are looking for.....move along"
Going to try some Divisional Level command house rules for ITLSU at Roy's next weekend using a further fictional scenario - "Falen Furball" with Brigadier Bowler and Co - basically Battle of Halen but with BEF troops instead of Belgians.
If they work then I'd commit to the Belgian Cavalry Division and freinds.....really love early WW1 Western Front stuff......."Use the Force Peter"....the BEF.....hmmm that was a really bad pun.
Sorry, but need a bit of humour after this week.
Hi All
Don't forget that Irregular Miniatures also makes 10mm Belgians. Infantry are generally compatible if a little taller and thinner. Horses are definitely taller and thinner. Staff officers and dog carts could be handy.
Cheers

Sounds interesting, sorry but a bit far to travel for the game this week ;)
I will be interested in how the house rules work out
I hope the coming week is a bit better :)
I'm enjoying the haphazardness of the Philippines and surprisingly handling the heat pretty well already :) 30 degrees & 66% humidity, not bad for 9am
Peter, have you seen this from Leman in the reading thread

"Retreat and Rearguard 1914" by Jerry Murland. This is quite an in-depth account of the BEF's retreat from Mons to the Marne. It covers the lesser encounters with the pursuing Germans as well as the likes of Mons and Le Cateau, and is thus a great source of historical small-action scenarios. It also makes extensive use of first hand accounts which provide a great deal of atmosphere. It is well written and moves at a cracking pace, almost like a novel in places. For me it has been a great find. I got it as a Kindle version.
Not Belgian but I' sure of interest ;)
No, hadn't seen it.
Don't tempt me ;D

I was thinking of Pierre the Shy aka Peter who has plenty of Brits and Germans, but happy to oblige ;)

Errr...what Peter Cooman said.
Looks like the Falen Furball test game will be delayed for a couple of weeks due to other commitments for Roy and myself. :(
