Planning my warband armies and now with three games under my belt im wondering how many players are using magic users every time they play?
Running Undead the Magic user comes into its own whereas the Taurians strike me as being a largely aggressive melee based army so maybe not so reliant on magic.
I have a goblin army on its way and can see the magic user coming into its own too.
I probably need to play more games but alrwady leaning towards forces without magic users to boost the number of available combat units.
I've not used magic users much so far - mainly because I am trying to get to grips with the core mechanics (and generally teaching other players too).
I agree with your assessment above, of the different lists.
As the spells have a few options it takes a bit of a while to understand when they are best used (and then you need to get the right magic points!!)
The Goblin spells that kick in at 3mp and 4mp are superb combat boosters. The Undead hero to all units in range is an absolute must.
On the others, I like the way each matches the idea behind the army, some are finely tuned razors, others are very blunt instruments indeed, here's my reading of them:
- Barbarian not sure yet, may not use them, they all about moves and protection
- dark elves are useful, if thought through
- dragon men is not too bad, very hard hitting
- eldritch undead is a must, much like undead
- high elves are all about protection and manoeuvres (as are dwarf)
- lizards aren't bad
- apes, very chaotic, overall not sure-they have to be timed well
- Taurians are all about getting troops into combat quickly, I can see the thinking, as your front line troops don't need too much boosting
- woodies support shooting and moves.
It's up to each player I guess, the good thing is even if you get 8mp a turn no spell is a complete game changer!

A Goblin general willing to sacrifice his shaman can be...boy i hate that 'exploding shaman'. Generally its my highest priority target when facing goblins...
I've yet to take a +1 shamen, but the idea of walking one into a horde of undead and pressing the 'BIG RED BUTTON' does appeal! :d
