In between night shifts I managed to get around to unpacking and tidying up the figures ready for basing.
This is going to be a massive army :o
Both Lord Options, Vampire and Undead
Both Magic User Options, Liche and Necromancer
2 units of archers
2 units of crossbow
3 units of riders
10 units of warriors
2 units of zombies
2 bat swarms
1 Dire wolves
1 gargoyle
1 unit of ghouls
1 giant vulture
2 ballistae
2 catapults
2 chariots
1 or 2 units of wraiths
I've plenty of spare figures to make command stands weird and wonderful, but also faced with some basing challenges having gone for 60x30 bases as the chariots and catapults will be tight squeezes.
Far more units than I will ever need but then again I can fight Vampire Lord against Undead Lord - Swings and roundabouts. :)
You've got at least two of each undead army then! 8)
Got these based today.
Drawback of the smaller base sizes is Chariots don't fit on 60x30 unless you place them sideways which just looks wrong. I have doubled based these on 60x60 but it's already caused problems :(
Leon does good 60x30 holes in 100mm bases mate! ;)
I am also using 6x3cm bases for Warband and ended up using 6x4cm bases for chariot and mammoth models. It has' nt really affected our games.
Undercoated the army today :)
As with the Taurians.....Looking forward to seeing these, Nosher !
Cheers - Phil
Made a start on painting core units.
Undead Lord, 3 units of skeleton warriors (one with a hero), one unit of Skeleton Riders and two each of crossbow and bow skirmishers
I'm not sue whether to add 'dead' static grass or not....

:-\
Not sure about that, Nosher.
Personally, I think they work really well as they are.....Not sure if static grass would add very much.
Definitely undecided here.

As Phil said, they look great!
I used static 'dead grass' once on a Sudan army and wasn't impressed hence my reticence to use it here :-\
Whilst I've been mulling the conundrum over I've finished the Vampire Lord Stand :)
Those look excellent, very nice! Personally I'd go for something on the bases, but whether that's 'dead' grass, a dark brown/green grass, or just a few rocks, I don't quite know... :-\

They do need something more, as you say the question is what. A thought is perhaps to use normal grass flock, except where the undead have walked...
Both the Liche and Necromancer stan :)ds and a Ballistae stand finished today
The figures are great but if they were mine I would give the bases a drybrush of a tan or sand colour just for a highlight. A few sprinkles of brown static grass would look good I reckon, but each to his own. Don't forget light coloured bases accentuate nicely painted figures, dark bases can lose them.
Managed to get two stands of zomvies done at the weekend so now have pretty much all i need less special units.
Still havent decided what to do to finish off the basing thpugh....
Very nice indeed. I agree a bit of highlighting on the bases would bring out the detail nicely.
A Giant Vulture, a unit of dire wolves and a unit of Gargoyles done this afternoon.
Gotta love 60x30 basing and being able to turn units around quickly!
These are pretty much done now. Two seperate Undead Warbands. An Undead Horde and a Vampire Lord Warhost.
Now just waiting on a Goblin Army. Not bad for someone whose never touched fantasy gaming.
Blimey !
Well.....Glad you're enjoying it, Nosher. :)
