Was in The Works on Princes Street in Edinburgh a couple of days ago and they had a basket of WW2 roughly 1/76 scale Russian tanks for £2.00 each.
They had IS-2, Matilda II, Lee/ Grant, SU-122, an armoured car I didn't recognise - maybe FAI or BA-20 - and a thing that looked like a command car and appeared to be labelled TACOM (didn't recognise it). All in Russian markings of dubious authenticity!
May be of interest to those dealing in rather bigger toys than I do these days.
There are also some larger vehicles 1:50 or thereabouts suitable for 28mm at £10 each. I've seen Crusader III but there are others including Puma.
On the website it shows a SOUMA S-35 and M13/40 at £10.
hi Ithoriel
These £2 vehicles are from a tank magazine (de agostini knock off)
From I think Russia there is a mix of WW2 and reasonably modern Soviet vehicles with the odd smattering of lend lease.
They seem to be a mix of metal and plastic.
The £2 vehicles are not up on their website only the larger £10.
Regards
Sean
I have been ito Two "The Works" shops with no luck :(
Which ones are you after, Mark ?
I'll have a look in at 'The Works' in Cardigan, when I go there next week.
Cheers - Phil
That would be very Kind of you.
I will send you an email
Cheers

Thanks for that guys
The vehicles look to be 20mm and their T-34 matches quite well with my Armourfast T-34. The offer has been on for a couple of weeks, so stocks seem quite low. They are marked as £9 down to £2 and I think make good additions to the wargaming table, with relatively good detail and good proportions.
the body is die cast, with turrets gun typically being plastic, as are the add on field tanks on the SU 122. They come pre-painted. The tracks are a bit like the old airfix rubberised clip together efforts and are best given some extra superglue to lock them onto all of the wheels.
they do some larger models marked down from £30 to £10. I have only seen the puma, but it was a lovely model and very nicely painted.
No luck in Widnes (apparently).....Thanks for looking, Nobby.
(We'll find some, Mark)
Cheers - Phil
I've reserved one of each of the tanks they have in Cardigan...and a couple of armoured cars.
As Matey in the shop couldn't tell me what they actually were...I'll get some piccies so I know what you're actually after, Mark...and buy any relevant ones.
Cheers - Phil
Cor, their website is rubbish!
http://www.theworks.co.uk/p/die-cast-models/small-die-cast-military-tank/5060146324878 (http://www.theworks.co.uk/p/die-cast-models/small-die-cast-military-tank/5060146324878) - should be the Soviet AC in 1/76th. Doesn't seem to appear in the category listings, and I only found it by accident off a "recently viewed" on another item!
http://www.theworks.co.uk/c/toys-games/die-cast-models (http://www.theworks.co.uk/c/toys-games/die-cast-models) - should be the other "heroic scale" stuff. There might be things missing, I don't know - their website is frankly weird!

To be fair to them the packaging is labelled in Russian so if you're not a tread-head it's not obvious what you're looking at.
Hi
Just had a quick look for curiosity and they also have the Revell US Navy Swift boat (£10) in 1/48 for those people doing 28mm skirmish - http://www.theworks.co.uk/p/toy-models/revell-us-navy-swift-boat-model-kit/4009803651224 (http://www.theworks.co.uk/p/toy-models/revell-us-navy-swift-boat-model-kit/4009803651224)

No sweat Matey ! :)
I still owe you for finding that CD....and all those little boxes you sent me. :-bd

Most are fairly easy to ID. There is a 4x4 soft-skin that's been confusing people but I think it's been tracked down. The full list covers just about every Russian/Soviet tank/afv for 1917. Note seen any of the really early stuff. I have collared 2 T55, 3 T80, 2 BTR-70, 1 BTR-60, and 1 BRDM-1. I'd like 2 more BTR-60, 1 BTR-70 and another T-55. It's just a case of looking in the shops.
At the moment Birkenhead has one of the 4x4, a shed load of Grants and Matildas, at lease 1 SU-122, hordes of IS-II(no one seems to want that one), 1 T-28, 1 T34-85 (It's in Dulux brilliant white), a BTR-90, and 1-2 BMD-SO-120's. Correct as of 09.30 hrs 07/09/15
IanS
My local shop only has the JS-II
No love for Stalin it would seem? ;D
DEr do be lots o em lying abart

This is a Matilda ?
This is a Lee Grant ?
But is THIS a SU 22 ?.......(Or something that looks like it ?
Cheers - Phil
Matilda, check.
Lee/Grant, check.
The last one looks like a SU 85 or SU 100. The SU 122 looks like this:
Same chassis, different gun and mantlet.
Oldenbau techno meant an SU-122,
Too many late night modelling sessions wearing out his fingers.
Regards
Sean
Many thanks, OBA... :-bd
I notice now that Ithoriel mentioned a SU 122 in the Edinburgh Works, in the very first post....
Mark's e'mail mentions an SU 22... Which is what I've been trying to find a reference for. X_X......That may well have been a typo.
I'll check with Mark, or hope he spots this. ;)
Cheers - Phil
Hi Phill
Yes that really is a Typo. My brain thinks faster than I type (I T y p e V e r y v e r y s l ow l y)
It should be IS 122.
Eh ??
Is that an IS-2 ?.....
Or a SU 122 ?......
Cheers - Confused of Wales. ;)
Techno,
Russian self-propelled guns are called "SU-xxx" where the 'SU' stands for the Russian: Samokhodnaya Ustanovka - self-propelled carriage. Usually they are based on a T60, T34 or KV chassis.
The exception being those on IS (Iosef Stalin) tank chassis which are ISU.
Help any?
Er.... :-\
If they've got them in Cardigan.
I think I'll buy one of the IS-2s and one of the SU 122s.
Is this an IS -2 ? (Probably the only one I'll have trouble identifying.....The Matilda and Lee Grant look fairly distinctive, as does the SU 122.)
Cheers - Phil
Yep dat be IS-2... ;)
IanS
My second post on the linked page below shows the SU 122 model. If you click on the photo it will enlarge so that you can see the kind of detail you will be getting.

Thanks, both ! :-bd

Well........
'Bless' my socks !
I knew I bought a tiny little book about tanks, decades ago...But hadn't got a clue where it had been 'hidden'....So I hadn't bothered to look for it.
Ferreting around for something completely different yesterday afternoon.....I found it !
Collins/Jane's "Tanks of World War II".
I shall take it into 'The Works' this morning.....and I won't even have to remember what these tanks Mark wants, look like.....I'll be able to look at the little pictures in the book.
HUZZAH ! :-bd
Cheers - Phil
Partial success, Mark !
I've got you two of the armoured cars.
One IS-2.....
And one Matilda.
They definitely didn't have the Lee/Grant or the SU 122.
I'll see if I can bully one of the others into getting them for you. ;)...and I'll reimburse them...postage, as well.
(They did have one 'boaty thing'.......Sorry if I'm being too technical here....I know not everyone on the forum is 'au fait' with vehicles from WWII as I am ! =O =O =O =O)
Cheers - Phil
Is that the flatbottomed boaty thing or the roundbottomed boaty thing? Inquiring minds want to know.
Or is this line of questioning best reserved for the totty thread?

Well...It's a flatbottomed boaty thing as far as I can tell.
Mind you....That may just be down to getting the model to fit in the packaging.....Which
is flat ! ;)
Cheers - Mr Expert.
I got one Grant and an unidentified Russian thing, wiv a Russian (not Soviet) flag.
If that's the 4wd thing it's 1990's, and tip to all - READ the front of the box. It actually tells you what it be.

It does !.....Though some of the letters are in Cyrillic script.
I'm rather hoping Mark doesn't actually want the IS-2.....I rather like that as a 'nice model to have'....and then hide it away somewhere. ;)
£2 for that......BARGAIN !!
Cheers - Phil
There always seem to be IS-II left over, apart from the branch at Cheshire Oaks. The best looking model is the T-35.
