What is the advantage of having the higher contours different colours?

I tend to use multilayer hills, under a base cloth. A cross between what Chris refers to as "The Polystyrene Jigsaw" and "Contour Formers"

HiPaul, easy way to see the contours and differentiate the three elevation levels in BBB, but frankly it got in my hand from making my 2d map for Domokos

here is how I ma progressing on it. A bit of flock and sand on the surfaces, and a system for denoting steep slopes.
