Title: Mounted Officers in peaked caps
Post by: Chad on 26 July 2015, 11:18:20 AM
Can anyone recommend which figures would match the above? I need them to complete my 1866 Bavarian and Federal forces.

Thanks

The Prussian army command pack, General Officers PPW5 contains mounted officers in peaked caps suitable for Bavarians as well.

Leman is spot on (and very quick of the mark!). Cannot recall whether the Bavarian Generals pack has caps, as opposed to the mounted officers, who are certainly in Raupenhelm.  The Saxon general is in cap, but is an old and rather smal figure compared with the burly fellows coming off the casting machine these days?   :D

Indeed, I've replaced my mini Saxons with the Prussian figure, painted cornflower blue who's to know  ;) Just to add insult to injury I've painted Albert in a cocked hat with a bright green plume  :D

Indeed who's to know?  But, just to add insult to injury, so to speak, the Saxon Generals did not wear the cornflower blue shade of the infantry, but dark blue coats and trousers!  ;)  :D

Really, even in 1866 ? I'm not doubting you but the figure top right is described as a Brigadier Adjutant, is this the same as a Brigadier General, in which case ...

Sadly, the figure is described as Brig. adjutant, not Brigadier Adjutant. I would suggest this is the Brigade Adjutant of the 3rd Brigade, listed in the Saxon Official History as "Senior Lieutenant Larrass, later Senior Lieutenant Hubel."   I have not found the Brigadier rank in the  Saxon Army, nor in the Prussian or Austrian.  The 3rd Brigade Commander is Major General von  Carlowitz, the other brigade commanders are all Colonels.  I also doubt he wore his jaunty cocked hat on campaign either!   The Saxon uniform books on sale in the Army museum in Dresden have all generals and general staff officers in dark blue.  Sorry!  :(
