Title: Anyone else ?
Post by: Techno on 08 July 2015, 06:55:58 AM
Hmmm.

Just had a moan to EE....(I think that's who my server is nowadays.....Or have BT bought them now ?.....I dunno...I started with Freeserve...That became Wanadoo.....Then Orange...Then EE.)

Anyway.....After the problems I've had recently with 'the server' being "unable to be found", that particular difficulty seems to have been sorted....
But my connection speed seems to have dropped considerably. (6 to 7+ Mbps down to 1.5)

Is there some grand 'upgrade' going on at the moment ?
Anyone else suffering the same symptoms ?
Maybe it's just a local problem.

Cheers - Phil

As far as I know EE still run their service over BT lines. So EEs servers but BTs network.

I used to be able to do some online gaming, BT speed has now dropped to 0.3mb when it works at all.

Virgin Media's 50Mb fibre for me - their basic Broadband hereabouts.

I realised the other night I was getting frustrated because speed had dropped to about the 45Mb mark.

#firstworldproblems :)

Hah !

The chance of us EVER getting fibre optic cables around Techno Towers, are about as likely as me winning the jackpot on the lottery....two weeks on the bounce !  ;D ;D ;D

Helps if you enter. Thought you got your signal via heliograph, which would explain the  interruptions.

I DREAM of 45mbps.

When I were a lad, all this round here was dialup.

Interweb-ites today don't know they're born.

I DREAM of 45mbps.:D

I dream of 10mbps. (Though what we had before, was perfectly adequate for our purposes.)

:-\ I don't know whether the speed has improved since I moaned.....But I think it's a bit faster again.
I can't be a**ed to check it properly, though.  :D

70Mbps - on BT infinity

I can't remember if that is slower than what it first was - I half remember having over 100 when it was new, at that time I may well have been the first on the street to have fibre.

It's definitely back up to speed, now......Huzzah ! :)

The really noticeable 'problem', was looking at something like paulr's AWI project pictures.
Those were being very slow to load.....Gradually 'scrolling' to completion.

Last night & this morning......"Whizz".....They're already there when I look down the page.

I got a reply from EE along the lines of, "We're not in the slightest bit interested.....Try this, this and this....and phone us back if the problem still exists in a couple of days."
(I so object to phoning "semi-premium" rate numbers that keep you hanging on for all the time they go through their 'blurb'.....Only to then find they've put you in a queue, so that you eventually give up....Must be a real money spinner for them.  >:( >:( >:( >:( >:()

Meanwhile, it would appear that somewhere, some bit of kit has been plugged in again.....But you know they'd never admit it was any fault on their part. X_X

Cheers - Phil

I just treat computers now as if it's wartime and the computers are part of the rationing process.
