Title: panzer 3 clarification
Post by: methos on 24 August 2010, 09:27:12 AM
I am just looking for some clarification on 2 codes GR8 Pz 111L and GR127 Pz 111J

In my last order i ordered GR127 but the model apears to have spaced armour on the turret and hull fronts
which leads me to believe i have been sent a GR8 as the Pz 111L had spaced armour not the 111j

I hope you all understand that it makes sence in my head :-)

I may be wrong hence my asking . if anyone has both could they please post pics for me to see

regards Richard

The Pz IIIJ also had the spaced armour, it's the exhaust which is the main difference, the IIIJ is missing the exhaust manifold sticking out of the back.  Dave tells me he checked on this himself when he visited Bovington tank museum.

Thanks for the clarification Leon

I wish I could get to Bovington long trip from New Zealand

I know you have added the PZ3g to the wish list is this a short term or long term project ??
I only ask as a pz3 with short 50cm gun is a gaping hole in my army

regards Richard

I'd say a long term thing, as there have only been a few requests for it.

Greetings

I thought (from an early July post) that the designer had asked for the Pz IIIE back to produce a version with the 50L42?

He asked for one to do some conversion work on, but I'm not sure what he was converting it to?  We were due to see him at Colours, but he had some car problems and couldn't make it.  As soon as I know what's coming, I'll let people know.

Thanks Leon

As a snippet, apparently (I haven't checked Jentz) "During the fighting on the Gazala Line Rommel had 223 Panzer IIIs armed with the 5cm L/42 and 19 with the L/60, giving him 242 Panzer IIIs in a total force of 560 tanks, of which 228 were Italian".
