Last night saw the grand inauguration of the ancient Indian and ancient Scythian forces.  Figures mainly Pendraken and Newlines, with a few Magister Militum. Indians, attacking, had some initial trouble when their apology for a heavy cavalry force went into uncontrolled advances for the first two rounds, though they were helped by the fact that the Sakae were at their prayers on the first round, having got bad omens. Scythian  noble cavalry (including some Sarmatian allies) had little trouble defeating two units of HC, while the lights got lucky and saw off one of the chariot units. Thereafter, however, the nomads were in trouble. The Massagetae and Dahae nobles followed up too enthusiastically and had to charge the Indian elephants (getting King Spitamenes shot on the way in didn't help), and the remaining chariots duffed up my horse archers without raising a sweat.

I suppose I'd rather live in an Indian-dominated world than one under the Scythians.

Let's go over to our local news team for some action photographs:

LC seeing to it that routed chariots don't return. Sadly, the attack on the rear of the others was beaten off.

Inexorable Indian advance on their left. The longbowmen didn't actually fire a shot; their only involvement was being skewered on nomad spears.

That group of ellies in the distance are destroying my king's household cavalry, precipitating a fatal morale test for the entire army. In fairness, I must point out that the Indians had tested army morale several times and lucked out on the rolls. The Scythians could win against this army. It is clearly important to get the LC out ahead early on to allow enough room to evade and nibble at heavier formations.
Lee's very pleased with herself, having won twice in a row now.

Assyrians have just given Indians a thumping. The Indians are dangerous, but far from unbeatable.

That's how all armies should be! Glad to see your getting a nice variety of games in. :D

Slight improvement in a rematch; both armies' morale broke after serious losses.
