Title: Revell CH-53 in 1/144
Post by: Sunray on 05 June 2015, 12:21:07 PM
I saw this kit whilst looking for modern aircraft.  With Revell's mass production it is only £7.99.

The kit is an easy build, but I found the rotors just too fragile for wargaming, so replaced the with those of a cheap (£1.50) Tesco discast toy.  The same with the landing gear.

The paint detail is overcomplicated, however, as I was going for an open rear door, I did paint the interior cargo bay and ramp.

The model is designed for a closed ramp door.  It was not difficult to  model the doors open, with the ramp down for either paratroopers or loading/ unloading on the ground.

The only other modification was to fit a Minifigs 1/144 door gunner, and a couple of rocket pods.  Not quite a gun ship, but now has the capacity to soften up an LZ.

A useful medium  helicopter with a service range from 1966 to present day. Cargo capacity of five and a half tons (that's a Landrover ) or 36 troops, and extremely good value in this Revell kit.
