Title: severed union scenario test
Post by: petercooman on 30 May 2015, 11:26:05 PM
Evening everyone!

Playing a severed union game, testing out a scenario for my next games night.

two equal forces battling it out over the length of the table, wich is divided in half by a river. the river has 3 fordable sections, each one worth a victory point. starting at turn 10 i start rolling to see if the time runs out. needing a 6+ at turn 10 5+ at 11 etc...

Closest side to a crossing place wins the VP.

The bases with dice frames are there to show the unit rating (black die for militia, blue for regulars and red for veterans) and to hold the counters.

the battlefield:

The staring forces (in severed union you roll to see wich of your units start on the table and wich units arrive at turn 3 and 4, skirmishers and one general always start the battle without rolling)

The rebels get a good selection of units, but the artillery is not at the front of the column and doesn't show up

the federal army start with only 2 battaillions but get an extra general and an artillery battery

the forces in reserve

Turn1
the rebels surge forward, taking advantage of the road on the left
(http://i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff441/petercooman123/DSC03402_zps2vfkmikt.jpg) (http://s1236.photobucket.com/user/petercooman123/media/DSC03402_zps2vfkmikt.jpg.html)

the yanks rush their artillery to the hill and unlimber to be able to easily target the rebels in a later phase of the game
(http://i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff441/petercooman123/DSC03403_zps0y64gyrv.jpg) (http://s1236.photobucket.com/user/petercooman123/media/DSC03403_zps0y64gyrv.jpg.html)
(http://i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff441/petercooman123/DSC03404_zpsylkke1er.jpg) (http://s1236.photobucket.com/user/petercooman123/media/DSC03404_zpsylkke1er.jpg.html)

Turn 2

both sides go forwards, the rebels continue their course, but the two cavalry battaillions move closer to each other to make a dash to the middle crossing, while the yanks aim to cross as fast as possible and make a 'buffer' in front of the crossings

(http://i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff441/petercooman123/DSC03405_zpstzcniphd.jpg) (http://s1236.photobucket.com/user/petercooman123/media/DSC03405_zpstzcniphd.jpg.html)
(http://i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff441/petercooman123/DSC03406_zpsm4akkv36.jpg) (http://s1236.photobucket.com/user/petercooman123/media/DSC03406_zpsm4akkv36.jpg.html)

Turn 3
The first of the artillery reserves arrive togheter with the veterans, while the rightmost  cavalry dismounts to guard the middle crossing. The leftmost skirmishing unit loses a base to a reactionary artillery barrage, wich was targeted at the cavalry on the road but went so far off target it hit the closest skirmisher base! (in severed union the artillery always fires in the opponents turn, in response to their movement)

(http://i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff441/petercooman123/DSC03407_zpsgm10ykyd.jpg) (http://s1236.photobucket.com/user/petercooman123/media/DSC03407_zpsgm10ykyd.jpg.html)

the right flank of the federal army races onto the table towards the right crossing, wich for now is only held by two company's in skirmish formation

(http://i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff441/petercooman123/DSC03408_zps7aen8y3e.jpg) (http://s1236.photobucket.com/user/petercooman123/media/DSC03408_zps7aen8y3e.jpg.html)

while the left and centre realises they have run out of time to set up the buffer in front of the crossings and form lines behind the stream

to be continued (typing while i play)

Turn 4

the rebels move up fast, the last battery arrives too.

(http://i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff441/petercooman123/DSC03410_zpsiydmz3fe.jpg) (http://s1236.photobucket.com/user/petercooman123/media/DSC03410_zpsiydmz3fe.jpg.html)

i made a mistake and forgot to form line with my centre battaillions, the first one gets wiped out by a lucky artillery fire! (artillery vs infantry in marching column = pain)

(http://i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff441/petercooman123/DSC03411_zpsrfu6k4yh.jpg) (http://s1236.photobucket.com/user/petercooman123/media/DSC03411_zpsrfu6k4yh.jpg.html)

The yanks move up and drive the dismounted rebel cavalry back but lose a skirmish company to artillery fire

(http://i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff441/petercooman123/DSC03412_zpss8ca44at.jpg) (http://s1236.photobucket.com/user/petercooman123/media/DSC03412_zpss8ca44at.jpg.html)

Turn 5

rebels move up and form line in center, but lose one stand of cavalry to artillery fire,on right flank the skirmishers break the yankee skirmishers

(http://i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff441/petercooman123/DSC03413_zpstlfzbnlz.jpg) (http://s1236.photobucket.com/user/petercooman123/media/DSC03413_zpstlfzbnlz.jpg.html)

yanks lose the right skirmishers to artillery fire, but succeed in driving back the left flank and centre opposition

(http://i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff441/petercooman123/DSC03414_zpspukjtlxw.jpg) (http://s1236.photobucket.com/user/petercooman123/media/DSC03414_zpspukjtlxw.jpg.html)

turn 6, getting too late so last turn sadly

the veteran battaillion gets pushed back and loses 2 stands to artillery, the rebs do no damage along their entire battleline, looking bad!
(http://i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff441/petercooman123/DSC03415_zpspzesfmq9.jpg) (http://s1236.photobucket.com/user/petercooman123/media/DSC03415_zpspzesfmq9.jpg.html)

The centre unit gets broken by intense fire, leaving only the dismounted cavalry, and the right federal flank gets cleared when the cavalry rides down the skirmishers!

(http://i1236.photobucket.com/albums/ff441/petercooman123/DSC03416_zpslgecchhh.jpg) (http://s1236.photobucket.com/user/petercooman123/media/DSC03416_zpslgecchhh.jpg.html)

Stopping because i run out of time, but safe to say the rebs are losing this one! They can only pose a threath on the right rebel flank, but the orther two victory point locations are firmly in federal hands!!

Good looking game. Faux mink makes a great base cloth.
