So only 39 days to go until the Ashes series starts, is it too early to engage smug mode ;)
Depends on how the weather behaves. ;)
Could be a draw, with five wash outs !
Cheers - Phil
I'm going for a narrow England win - the Aussies aren't as good as they think they are, and we aren't as bad as we think we are
(disclaimer: I may rethink this after the first test when you are more than entitled to enter 'smug' mode)
England frequently loses the first test in a successful Ashes series.
... successful for Australia?

Five draws would be a good result on current form...
You can be as smug as you like. Its a national trait. We forgive you ;)
We always have the Barmy Army
It may be too early, they still need to get though the West Indies tour without injuries and they are an old bunch. I think I will wait until they arrive in England before getting too cocky :)
smug mode engaged :> :> :> :> :> :> :> :D

Hmmm, that didn't go so well.

I thought that the Art of Understatement was supposed to be an English characteristic? :-\ ;) :o :D

A Kiwi supporting a team playing Australia ;) :) :D
The Empire, too, We can depend on you....
I'm stunned. :o
At least it can't be another whitewash !

At least for Australia anyway, let's call that first test a head start. Anyhoo it's back on a gain so more late nights for me, unless the English put up a fight again and I go to bed early ;)
Anyone want me to lock this thread before Upgraydd has a chance to 'have a gloat'..... ;)
Dearie, dearie me. X_X
Cheers - Phil
If we make 68-ao, I would be shocked!
People with tickets for Sunday must be miffed, they're not going to get to use them!
chill chaps, this game is far from over. The situation will look far different by end of tomorrow.
Don't panic Mr Mainwaring :)
Plenty of cricket left to play yet in this test let alone the series. The Aussies play their best cricket after an upset.
I love that English optimism :☺
not sayin' nuthin' >:(
(p*ss poor performance)
Just a game, chaps. And a jolly dull one too, what?
Proof again that the Aussies don't like typical English Summers and England play better with a partizan crowd behind them.
Plenty more Cricket left in this game and the series.....
good toss to lose :D
After two days of the third test......
I was thinking of putting a £1 on an Australian win......But not at the feeble odds the bookies are quoting.
They really don't trust England not to implode.......Even from this advantageous position.
Cheers - Phil
I'm amazed at how poor both sides have been in this match with regards to batting. It does make for an interesting match but anyone with tickets for the weekend will be mightily peeved, given the likely finish today.
People with tickets for day four/five get full refunds.
I dont think theyll care one iota when we go 2-1 up :D
Thanks for the info Nosher. If the Aussies build a lead of 130 plus, it could make for a tense finish to the match given both sides batting form...
Dearie me Australia. Beaten by eight wickets in just over 2 & 1/2 days....
English Optimism 2 - Austrailian Smugness 1.
Bring on Trent Bridge.
Yep, next week will be very interesting.

Please keep the optimism coming ;)
I am the eternal pessimist ! :D
Then I'm absolutely delighted when things go better than expected ! ;)

Yeah, well, umm. What the hell happened? I just spent 3 days crying into my beer and hoping when I sobered up it was all just a bad dream.
I guess now I know how it feels to be an English supporter ;)
30 mins into the 4th test and the Ashes are ours :D
GOOD GRIEF ! ....I missed the start.
29 for 5 !!!
I'll stop listening to the book and put the radio on.
Cheers - Phil
38 for 7
It's an exceptional match when even I know the scores!!
I think either side would have struggled batting on that first. Saying that all test teams seem to have gone in to T20 mode these days trying to score at 4 to 5 an over
Just logged on and lost for words.....
Will England bat before lunch? At this rate of wickets falling we could have the game (and series) decided in one day!
Can anyone help me by identifying the parallel universe into which I seem to have stumbled? :o :-\

Just checking the date to make sure it's not 1st April :)
Anyone want a ticket for Sunday ???

Only a true Englishmen would know... ;)
Trying to listen too it on the computer but it seems the whole of the country is listening (bar Mollinary :D) as I can't access TMS at present :(
All out for 60!!! 😱😱😱
England all out for ? ..........I wonder :-\
(They think it's all over...... ;D ;D ;D ;D)
Cheers - Phil
It wouldn't surprise me if England managed to sneak a loss.
Either way, I think the Aussies need to be tested to see if someone has snuck something into their tea.

Australia's second highest scoring player was Leg Byes, to be fair, he's played in every innings since 1897, about time he got a decent score. ;)
The highest scorer was 'Extras'.....First time in an Ashes match.....Apparently.
Cheers - Phil.
England are now three times as good as Australia, and Root has scored more than the entire Australian team!
When did the world turn upside-down! :o
They think.its all over......
It soon will be.
Just watched the highlights on Channel 5 and Australia's batting was shocking. To be honest I really feel for the Aussie supporters as a result of this.
:o :) :D
No sympathy for the Aussies. They wouldnt reciprocate it.
I just want to see the English boys do what the Aussie boys would do to them. Put the foot firmly on the throat and apply maximum pressure.
It's not over yet, that's only the first day of a 5 day test, there's still a lot of cricket to be played...and other useless euphemsims.

Yeah that's the problem with being a bunch of cocky bastards, I bet teams all over the world are having a good laugh
Even if it were to rain for four days, the Duckworth-Lewis method after that first inning would say "Give up!"
They might give up...if it was against any team but the English :P
I've gone back and had a look at the odds, again.
I know the bookies really stack things to their advantage but........
For the current Test.
The meanest odds are 33 to 1 ON, on an England win......12 to 1 against an Australian win.
The best odds on an Australian win are 20 to 1 against.....
Certainly not worth a 'punt'.
Cheers - Disgusted of Wales. ;)
I wonder what the Aussie bookies are offering. :-\
Cheers - Phil

Never, in the field of human conflict, has so much laughter been made by so many English Cricket Supporters......

Rugby Championship - lost to Aussies for first time in 10 years/games!
Spurs lost first game of the new seaon to Man U :o
Oh well one out of three ;)
What a complete Balls up. So yes, at least we had Rugby to dampen the shock.
