Title: Remembering things
Post by: Orcs on 06 May 2015, 10:00:41 AM
As we get older or very old in Matrons case how do you remember things.

I use Mrs Orcs to help me remember

All of my bits and pieces - letters, figures, tools etc get placed in a certain place on the kitchen worktop.  Mrs Orcs hates this cluttering up the place, so if I have something I need to deal with or post I purposely leave it here as Mrs Orcs will remind by asking "Whats all this stuff here - can you put it away?" on a regular basis.

I think she is a little suspicious that I do this as She has caught me getting stuff out of the Studyfiling  to put it there so that she will remind me.  ;)

What always worries me is when things aren't where they should be, and I have no idea how they got there.

I live alone.

There's a good Larson cartoon (well, they're all good) where the dog says to its pal,

"You wanna have some fun, Fred? I'm gonna go over and stare and growl at the closet door."

I usually remember the interesting things quite easily. No art known to man helps me recall the dull stuff.

I don't make notes to remind me to do things....... for the simple reason I'd forget where I left the note itself.
Cheers - Phil.

My memory is pretty good for wargaming and history stuff, it's the mundane real life bits that I have the retention period of a butterfly for. This is a constant source of irritation to Ma Subs who thinks I am ignoring her when she is talking...not really, I have unintentionally zoned her out because something wargamey has just taken centre stage in my thoughts. I don't think I am alone in this either.

I'd ask Ms. Toxic but I think the answer would be either the hoovering or clearing the garden waste and getting it to the tip...

Ah yes like the time Mrs V asked me what I was thinking and I made the mistake of answering honestly.......no I really was wondering who would win a straight fight between King Kong and Godzilla (Godzilla clearly)

My first fiancee gave me a particularly good book for my birthday. She smooched up and said "... and what do I get for getting you the book?"

This was one of the times when brain should have been engaged, but I wasn't. I turned a page and said "ignored".

Wonder why we never married?
