OK, be gentle with me. Here's a couple of photos of my latest project. Somewhere in the Middle East, 1960. I have painted up the armour, and am waiting for some softskins from Pendraken. First time using desert colour schemes in acrylic, first time using sand bases.
I've got infantry to paint up and am frankly cracking myself at the thought of camouflage colours!
The basic idea is that there is a small (as yet un-named) country in the Middle East, where the Americans have been propping up the regieme. Meanwhile, those pesky Russkies have been agitating and there is an insurrection. The French have air lifted in some Paras and the British have landed some Commandos from the sea.
Therefore I have 4 forces.
- Government forces (top right) M48's and Chaffees
- Insurrection (top left) T54s & PT76s
- British seaborne forces (bottom right) ?
- French airborne forces (bottom left)

Immediately I have a number of problems. Firstly, Government will take on the Insurrectionists, but who will the Brits and French back? If anyone? Everyone? I want a skirmish (platoon) game so don't want to add too many more vehicles.
How-ever ... I really, really,
really want an Ontos or three. This means US Marines. Perhaps I need a Soviet backed neighbouring state to add a bit of weight to the other side. Mostly, I'm looking for some chaos and post war armour.
Maybe add some warring tribes in the mix?
Nice armour! And the buildings at the back look great too!
There's a thought! Maybe no tanks as such, but camels and recoil-less rifles.
Must be something in the SCW range that I can use. :-\
Good work like the T54`s a lot
:-bd =D> :-bd
Maybe something like the Senussi Campaign took place in north Africa, in ww1

Low tech but using the terrain to their advantage, making it difficult for armour to fight them directly?
The scw cavalry springs to mind, no camels though

Sounds great! 8)
Post Suez, it's unlikely the Brits would have been involved in real life, but in an imagi-nation, I can't wait!
The French were also tied up in Algeria too (see 'A Savage War of Peace', brutal but great for scenario ideas).
Can't imagine the Arab League would sit idly by either! ;)
Just saw this, those look great, and I love the concept.
Has me perusing the modern vehicles section of the Pendraken website.

Those look terrific, Nobby ! :-bd
Great job !!

Great stuff FSN, I'll be following this with interest.

They are lovely, freaky little things, working on a platoon for my Vietnam stuff
Yay, pics are there!!
Nice offbeat selection of forces. Desert camo and bases look fine to me.
The addition of a group of desert raiders ie Tauregs or similar could be a possibility.
Hi FSN
The British Army had only started bringing in Camo uniforms in the middle to late 60's.
There was no desert DPM till much later. The earlier 4 colour desert DPM was actually sold of to Iraq in the 80's.
Before the desert DPM was introduced the British forces wore Sand coloured trousers and shirts with white rank insignia.
Mad Lemney
Post Suez the British army were involved in Aden in the 60's against Dhofar tribesmen. The British Government at the time were willing to send troops to help governments/countries that they saw as strategically important to Britains interests.
Hope this helps
Sean
Very nice
Take care

Reading a little bit more.
No major country had started issuing camo uniforms in any great numbers by the 60's looks like Britian was the first to give every soldier his own camoflagued uniform in the late 60's early 70's no doubt helped by the small compact forces she held.
Hope this is of help.

I'm going to base my French on the Foreign Legion in Algeria at the same time:

And put the Brits in the Denison smock as in the Suez Crisis.

Thank you. I love a challenge. To learn is to grow!
Good luck!
Now I feel very nervous.

Good luck for both Id go with a conceptual style rather than trying to copy the style Denison smock at the time had big patches of colour so go with your base colour splodges of green and brown.
With the FFL Id go with a green base and put small bits of a sand coloured paint on top.
