I don't mind ! "
Chewie, we're home !" the last shot turned me from a skeptic to a fan boy ! :D
Ohhhhhh yes!
We've got a fair old wait, though.

They stole my idea for the opening clip!

I'll get my IP lawyers onto their IP lawyers
Well it looks good to me, could be the best Christmas present for years (sure beats socks).
Once again, the triumph of hope over experience?
I'm waiting for "Spectre"
Star Wars should always be space opera, the hero's always win no matter the odds and there should be great one liners and plenty of action
It all looks pretty good to me so far
The wife and I are thinking:
Week off, three showings a day for five days. That'll be a 15 showing for a start.
Is it possible to live for a week on popcorn, nacho cheese, and soft drinks?

Ah, excellent! The 'thumbs down' approval for the fallen gladiator indicating the crowd's pleasure and that the fighter should be spared!
Glad you liked the awesome trailer too Ithoriel! :D

Since we have absolutely no idea what gesture was used in Ancient Rome to indicate the sparing, or otherwise, of a gladiator I was using the modern idiom. :)
So far, I expect the new film to be marginally better than Episode I and incomparably worse than Episode IV.
I still hope to be proved wrong by the final product!!

My personal 'hate' was episode 3.

Ah! But what you don't see is the next few seconds, when he puts in his thumb, and pulls out a plum.
Star Wars,
Don't care that it's coming,
Don't care that's it's going
to be worse than before.
Star Wars,
May watch on the telly,
whist scratching my belly,
and being quite bored.
It's passed it's sell by date and so have the stars, you know,
and Disney's going to make it cheesy,
Jar Jar Binks will be a place that you'll want to go,
to remember when the Star Wars films were good
You've taken those pills to help you get over the Lorraines, haven't you, Nobby ?

It's going to be utterly amazing.
Just as an aside, Disney's stock closed up $2billion. The power of 110 seconds of Star Wars awesome. :D
Watch out for the point at which someone says "I've got a bad feeling about this". There's one in every Star Wars film. Usually when George can't think of anything else to write.
George Lucas is infamous for writing cheesy dialogue! ;D
During the filming of A New Hope, Mark Hamill is alleged to have told him that 'George, people don't talk like this!'
Harrison Ford is known to have complained 'you can type this s***, George, but you sure can't say it'.
Lawrence Kasdan (co-wrote Empire) frequently complained, saying to George, 'This is a terrible scene, I can't believe you wrote this'.
Even Lucas called himself 'the King of wooden dialogue', and he's known to have said that he basically makes silent movies, but he has to put dialogue in.
With JJ Abrams in charge i expect fewer cheesy lines will make it through, but i'll be disappointed if there isn't at least a few,
'I've got a bad feeling about...'
'You underestimate the...'
And
'Delusions of grandeur...'
:D
I'll watch it...just cos... :)

Hmmmm . . . . They never filmed anything called 'A New Hope'. They filmed something called 'Star Wars'.
A small point, but it annoys me.

Beg to differ.

Yep.
It was always Star Wars: A New Hope, but with just the one film out the media simply called it Star Wars. :D
The upcoming Star Wars Battlefront game looks absolutely awesome too. I'll be investing in a PS4 I think...
But it really did make me hanker for 10mm stormtroopers, ATATs etc...wonder if they'll give out the licence?
Leon, get on the blower to Mickey Mouse. ;D

Sigh. Nope, it was always 'Star Wars'. The 'Episode IV: A New Hope' title was not ret-conned on until 1997.
The film I, and everybody else, saw in 1977 was definitely called Star Wars.

Yes, you're right. As I said, it's only a small thing, but if bothers me that people think it was called A New Hope.
Only the amended, 1997 onwards version(s) are called that.
And Han shoots first!

Han 'Drinks, Shoots and Leaves.' Does this explain Princess Leia's grumpiness in episodes 4 and 5, or is that 1a and 2a?

Well, she does snog her own brother in Empire Strikes Back . . . unless that's been removed in later versions. Can George Lucas ever stop tinkering?

Well......if she were my sister I'd.... :-[
When the film was originally released in 1977, it was simply referred to as 'Star Wars' (early drafts were 'The Star Wars'). George Lucas had intended to include 'Episode IV: A New Hope' in the opening crawl, but Twentieth Century Fox did not want Lucas to do so because they thought it would confuse audiences. (Incidentally, this is why 'The Madness of King George III' was released as 'The Madness of King George' so as not to confuse the Americans).
After the commercial success of the original Star Wars, Lucas was able to release The Empire Strikes Back in 1980 with the full title of 'Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back' in the title crawl, although it was referred to only as 'The Empire Strikes Back' in the marketing.
Subsequently, the original Star Wars was re-released in 1981 with a original intended title 'Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope' in the title crawl.
'Star Wars Episode VI: The Return of the Jedi', released in 1983 was originally titled, 'Revenge of the Jedi'. This title was changed at the last minute, which is why it's still possible to find merchandise with the 'Revenge' part still on it.
The 'A New Hope' title appeared on all subsequent re-releases and versions from then on (though the original version was released on DVD in 2006, which shows the title crawl in its original Fox-mandated form). All subsequent Star Wars films have followed this new naming structure, although 'Star Wars' often refers specifically to the 1977 film.
In fairness "Episode IV; A New Hope" would have confused audiences anywhere. I know "Episode V; The Empire Strikes Back" confused the hell out of me as a child; I gleefully concluded that there were three preceding movies that I had missed and could seek out.
(later in life I would wish I could go back to that pre-prequel state).

Hardly surprising, seeing as that is exactly what the film was called.

I've never quite been able to fathom the general aversion to the "prequel" series. The films in it, with the benefit of more modern special effects, are slicker and better put together. The "plots" are no better or worse than the originals - I could never take any of them seriously as sci-fi. And the much-maligned Episode III does, at least, explain the back-story of the following three.

The implication that Darth Vader was once Wesley Crusher is, like, totally uncool, dude.
No more so than Carrie Fisher as a Princess. :-&
Ummm....you have a point, I must admit.
The original set of movies is great, but not perfect by any means (Ewoks; geuch). I don't hate the prequels like proper fan boys do, but I really don't like them. However I was only recently convinced that they were truly awful by the Mr. Plinkett reviews.
George is a master at creating worlds, but he's no scriptwriter, so I'd recommend anyone with a Star Wars interest watch them. They are long and in depth, but very incisive and hilarious. Be warned though, Mr Plinkett is a serial killer and the videos are definitely NSFW

Half in the Bag on the website is very entertaining too.
My son has Aspergers. So he makes you lot look like people who don't really take an interest in things... Anyway because of his age he saw the originals first (he was 3 when I came out, so y the time he was old enough it made sense.
He thinks the prequel are brilliant. Mind you he also thinks the Bad Guys won in episodes IV and VI, which is logical for an Aspie, if you watch the first 2 and a half, its obvious that the guys in the cool white armour are the good guys. This is the boy who repainted his Lego Clones in historically correct colours.
