Title: Flu!
Post by: cbr3d.com on 14 April 2015, 10:33:45 AM
Being somewhat on the mature side of life I duly went along and had my 'flu-jab' last autumn.  Then over the winter I remember reading that this years jab is likely to only be effective in 5% of cases (different strains than predicted seemingly having become prevelent).
Last week started getting a sore throat, then the aches and pains, and now a temperature.  I had my usual 6 month visit to the Quack's this morning who congratulated me on having my flu jab as it has obviously worked!   :o
Must say though he did then say that the chances are this is only mild I have and that others he has seen over the last couple of weeks have been absolutely bedridden with it.  (Poor buggers.)

Moral of the story, though I feel like 'yuck' at the moment thank goodness I spent 10 minutes last autumn getting the flu jab, well worth doing.   :-\

Sorry to her that. :(

Sore throat?  Highly recommend Difflam Spray.  Squirt squirt; no pain.

Make sure you get the spray though. ;)

I should try that spray, too. Got a sore throat. You! Fig.ht!  It must be your fault!  It felt OK until I read your post! :'(

Oh ... wait ... it was sore before that ..... sorry ... hope we both get rid of it soon.   :-[

The wife just got some Defflam Spray for me, tried it, and wonderful!  First time for about 5 days my throat doesn't feel like someone is using an industrial grinder on it.

Now, I know that hasn't 'cured' it, but helps an awlful lot.  Thanks GetaGrip and Westmarcher.   :-bd

Mine went the other way. Back in the early seventies I had whatever passed for an anti-flu thing -not the jab as I didn't do jabs back then. Bang, I got flu! Bed ridden for two weeks, couldn't even raise an eyebrow. The following year got the bl**dy flu again, this time for a week. Since then I have never had flu -touches head for luck- only colds.

Flu, real flu, is vile.

Racks me off when people label a cold as flu. >:(

I find Night Nurse and Day Nurse take your mind off the Cold or Flu.
They don't get rid of it either, but makes you feel better.  :d

Hope you feel better

Just had a nap and then used the spray again, bloody marvellous.   :)

I am just glad I had the jab, two weeks off or even one week off work would not have been good at the moment.  Just doing mundane bits at the moment whilst my 'Night Nurse' and 'Day Nurse' ('She who must be obeyed', aka 'the wife', aka 'The Boss') carries on painting.   :)

The Quack said I should be OK by the end of the week, and now my throat doesn't clamp up when I go to drink a cup of tea I am starting to feel better in myself. :-bd

Seriously though, if you are down to get the flu jab this year make sure you get it, it is worth while.   :-\

I should be on commission for Difflam; I personally think I've shifted 100 bottles. ;)

I had never heard of it before.  (Actually when thinking about it I am a little annoyed the quack didn't recommend it.)

So,

I wonder how much baking powder has been bought lately?  Hmmmm.  Most probably as many as 1 or 2 tubs.  Don't think I would qualify for commission there, most wargamers will just half-inch the tub from the kitchen cupboard.   :)

Jabs, injector guns (bloody painful!), pills, capsules - tried 'em all over the years. All totally useless. The problem is that there are "n" thousand different strains of flu and the inoculation only treats one.
