has anyone else tried making one of these I am trying to work out the most suitable truck
then thought i would use a german 88 with modified sheild for the gun
For anyone wondering what it is. It is an italian 90mm aa gun mounted on a lancia 3RO truck
that the Italians used in an antitank role ( possibly after seeing the success of the 88)
link to Flalmes of war 15mm model

so any help on a truck that would suit would be most helpfull
My Italians could do with the firepower :-)
regards Richard
That's a funky piece of kit, eh? Nice 8)
As for making it, I think you could start with the Opel Blitz w/ 20mm Quad:
A bit of work on the bed (not sure if this comes separately anyway?) & some stowage behind the cab...
Or poss a Brit 2pdr portee? Not sure if the Pendraken one has a cab or not though...
The Russian Katyusha would be great - if it had 4 wheels instead of 6 - as the truck bed is there, there are 2 support struts [rear] & cab & stowage is there...a coin / washer on it with an 88 on top & it would be great!
What Nik said ^^^ 8)
You could also look at the Russian truck as well, which also comes with a separate back to it.
Does that Opel Quad come with a separate bed Leon? 'cos that would save a load of work if it does..!

I think Dave said it does, yes.
Thanks Nik and Leon for your sugestions
Leon do you have a picture of the russian truck ?

Not to hand, but I can get Dave to cast one off for me to photo.
Thanks Leon that would be great I am working out my next order
and will add the most suitable truck and an 88 on to it

Where's the fun in that Jim? ;)
I reckon this one'll turn out fine as a conversion...I'm trying to find if these were used on mainland Italy as well as the desert in order to justify me building one for my forthcoming Italian battlegroup..!

Jim
I think there's a request for it somewhere, I've got it on the list. If it can be done through converting some of the other bits though, it'd save us having to get it designed.
Hi I did ask for one on the request thread but I apreciate it wouldnt be a huge seller
I have to confess Nik all the pictures I have are clearly in the desert and have not been able to
find out if they were also used in italy
Thanks again for the help guys
Hi
From the photo`s I`ve seen the bed on the rear of the lorry which the gun sits is circular.
Jim
Check my original suggestion Jim ;)

HI Nik
Have you thought of making one of these semovente DA 90 for your later itallian battle group
as they were used in Sicily during the allied invasion
http://www.flamesofwar.com/Portals/0/all_images/italian/SP-Guns/IT120.jpg
It will be another conversion i will be trying later as they fought in north afrika as well
regards Richard
That's a proper beasty, isn't it!
I've been looking for mainland pics before I start painting [likely to make a start tomorrow] - and kiwidave pointed me here: http://ww2drawings.jexiste.fr/Files/1-Vehicles/Axis/2-Italy/Italian-Armor.htm which is a great link - and has this one as well: http://ww2drawings.jexiste.fr/Files/1-Vehicles/Axis/2-Italy/04-SPG/Semovente-M41(90-53)/Semovente-M41(90-53).htm
I'm intrigued now - and am tempted to have a bash at this...just need to think what to start with - have you given it any thought?
Hi Nik
I will try using Pendraken ITA16 Semovente 75/18
with a straight front plate i think it will be easyer to modify the upper hull to suit
Richard
Ah OK - yep, I can see that...now, what about the gun??!
Or are you going to try to take off the existing hull, cut it down & replace it further back [& extend the barrel]?
I thought i would cut / file down the semovente 75/18 front hull to the shape of the DA90
then add hatches etc with thin plasti card
then file down the existing engine cover area to make a flat bed for the gun
make up a new gun sheild with plati card and modify a german 88 barrel
looks like another two items to add to my next order :-)
regards Richard
Excellent - sounds like a good plan: you don't fancy posting a Work-In-Progress as you model these do you? I'd be interested in seeing how you so it & I expect others would too...
Hi Nik
what section should i post a work in progress in ?
I will be ordering a truck and 88 first so will start with that conversion
regards Richard
Speaking as Mod for "Painting & Modelling" I suggest bunging it in there 8)
I'm really pleased you're going to have a bash at this - and are happy to share it with the rest of us 8) :-bd 8)

Hi Leon
Many thanks to all those who made the picture possible
It looks a better place to start than the opel the cab looks closer.
A little rounding off of the mudguards
getting rid of the second rear axle then a round deck and an 88 with modofied sheild
all sounds easy :-)
Can you please advise which product code the truck is
Thanks Richard

SV52 (http://www.pendraken.co.uk/SV52-p4575/ (http://www.pendraken.co.uk/SV52-p4575/))
Thanks again for your help I will add this and an 88 to my order today
regards Richard
Not to much progress as my model railway has distracted me again :)
I have opted for the American truck as the cab and engine covers are closer to the lancia
first modification will be to remove 1 pair of the rear wheels
regard richard
hoping i have attached pic correctly
Looks good so far. I've been after a coupe of these for ages so I'll also be very interested to see how you get on.
Graham
Yep - looking fine so far Richard 8)
