I've spent a while this afternoon going through the Warband army lists and seeing what I can field - the bad news (for Leon) is that I can field several armies without needing to buy more stuff, the good news (for me) is that I can field several armies right now!
Dragon Men Empire style. Using a core of WM Empire figures I can field Crossbows, Men At Arms, Knights, Cannons and Handgunners. I have options using Zweihanders as Powerful MAA, Flagellents as Impetous MAA, and probably Pistolleers as Marcher Horse. With a bit of painting I can add Giants and probably Pegasi - though might need a few more figures for these. What I can't field (of figures I have painted) are pikes and Steam tanks.
Dragon Men Araby style. I have a mix of GW, Pendraken and MM Araby figures. With a bit of a different flavour to the above, can go with Archers, Spearmen, Cannons, Handgunners, Knights, several variations of Macher Horse to represent the various light cav. I am wondering about using Elephants as Giants/Ogres. With some painting I can add Peasents. What I can't field, Flying Carpets, Camel Riders
High Elves Probably my biggest WM army. I can field all the options - apart from catapults. I'm intrigued by being able to add water Elementals and unicorns. I can't field my Horse Archers, but I think all my other troops can be fielded.
Goblins and Orcs I have piles of Orcs and Goblins but not much painted. But I can still probably field a Warband force, Wolf Riders and Warriors being the core, with some archers, spiders, Giants & Ogres, and Trolls briniging up the points with with some hard hitters. With some painting I can add some more options, some Cave Horrors sound fun!
Lizardmen my most recently painted army, and nearly all Pendraken. Lizardmen Warriors and Newtmen hunters will make up the core. With Raptor Riders and forest Trolls in support. A key unit that seems to be missing is Lizard Riders - I've got loads of these! It would be good to field some Dionosaurs too
Taurians Minotaurs and Centaurs what's not to like! Unicorns can be added too. On the to be painted pile would be be Giants and Pegasui. I've probably got some left over centaurs to make some centaur archers too. And a Rhino pack sounds fun.
Wood Elves. Looking at the list I should be able to put together a force - I might be a bit tight on the core troops but I'm sure ive got some more archers and spearmen waiting to be painted. And I have lots of the extras, Gaint spiders, Eagles, tree Elementals, unicorns, and water Elementals.
So 7 armies ready to go! well when Leon gets the sabot bases in the post ;)
Lets see some pictures! You can probably use Flying Carpets as units of Pegasi. ;)
Pictures in a few days - busy with family stuff tomorrow.
I wondered about flying carpets as Pegasi - but it would be good to give them a shooting attack.
Make them the magic user unit?

Could always just use them as Marcher Horse. They are fast & have a shooting attacks. They are just flying close to the ground.

Hope there are no telegraph wires in the Warband world...

Never stopped Vulcan bomber pilots!
But a Vulcan is rather bigger and MUCH faster......

You ever been on a Magic Carpet!
Might be tricky judging by that...
Saw them do that one live at Mountford hall - 73/4....
IanS ;)
Lovely stuff :) I wasn't even born :D
That's an impressive set of armies there fred.
I'm particularly keen to see the Araby style Dragon Men.

These are a good percentage of my Araby troops arrayed for Warband - I can field a solid core of 4 Men at Arms, and 3 Archers or Archers at Arms. Along with a Baron ( or should that be Emir?) it gives me a solid 300 pts of core troops.
I then have lots of options, for manoeuvre: Horse Archers (marcher horse with Parting Shot), Camel Riders ( marcher horse with Swift and Parting Shot). flying Carpets (Pegasi).
For shooting Cannons or Hand Gunners - though I may need to model the hand gunners with some cover to represent their 3d6 protection.
For hard hitting Elephants (Ogres and Giants), Knights (with Fierce and Impetous), or Foot Knights as the Emir's Guard.
And wizards with their Djinn
The infantry are mainly based on 40x20mm with some of the cavalry and guns on 40x40mm. I will mount them on 100x50mm sabots.
Very nice!
Very nice force! 8)
Thanks chaps.
I was surprised at how many core troops I needed - which is most of my bow and spear troops. And then how expensive the Optional troops are - which means I can field many variations around them ( especially as I have more optional troops than those photographed )
Great looking army, be sure to let us know how you get on with the rules.
Damn fine work as always, Fred ! :-bd
Cheers - Phil
Good stuff - no Rucks though ?

Love that Fred; superb! =D>

Aren't rucks what they have in Rugby? Not really sure what you are meaning here Ian?
I received my order of sabot bases (and counters) from Leon today - very nice they are two.

These are some quick tests to see how things look - very good being my view. These are just placed together with no glue, so the tops may not align with the bases as things may have moved.
I do like the custom 2p sabots that Leon cut for me - the holes in these could perhaps be a 0.5mm bigger - just to give a little more tolerance. On the ones with the square holes there is a nice amount of space that makes it easy to put the figures in.
I am thinking that I should have got some ones with 1p sized holes cut too for wizards that I have on 1ps.
Now to get these stuck together, and some sand on them. I'm now slightly torn as I was intending to do these sabots brown with a bit of static grass - but now I've got the Araby figures out, I think I need some desert ones...
Oh i say, they're jolly nice. Can't wait to see them sanded up. :)
Great ideas.
I think I need 30x 60 gapped sabots.
If you do get 1p ones, I might order some too for my wizzards and generals...
Fantastic job Fred! :-bd

No - the giant elephant eatting bird. There is one somewhere in the Fantasy accessories, and my 3 are stored well away from the Sassainians and Indians.
IanS :)
Roc/Rukh/Ruck or "Dave" as he's known to his mates ;)
Having just been giving antibiotics to one of our chickens, I can recommend the idea of a terror bird in any army :P
Excellent work, Fred !
Cheers - Phil
Thanks chaps - these aren't particularly recently painted figures (even managed to include some Pendraken in the photos, as my Araby army is a broad mix of manufacturers).
A Giant Roc would be cool - I didn't realise Pendraken did one - I was looking for one a couple of years ago for a KoW araby style list.
