Title: Australians in Viet Nam
Post by: fsn on 02 April 2015, 08:32:02 PM
Some quick questions, Chaps.

Are the Australians in the Viet Nam range in helmets or beanies?

Is the "L1 LMG" (Av2, AV3) the sub machinegun/machine carbine/ F1? ... this thing?

I believe, from memories, they normally wore a squash hat.
That is a converted Stirling the Aussies used. :)

If it's the LMG it's probably the full auto FN FAL version (L1 for the rifle, L2 for the LMG) misnamed. Though I'm not sure you'd make out a lot of difference in 10mm - slightly longer mag, beefier front grip possibly down as bipod?

This is where my ignorance and my logic rub together.

The "L1 LMG" is carried by AV2 Officer and AV3 RTO. I assume it is more reasonable for officers and radio operators to carry SMGs rather than LMGs.

Hmm in which case I'd guess it's supposed to be the L1 SMG as you suggest above :D

More website piccies, please!

The Australians have been sent off to Matt of Munslow to be painted, so they'll be added to the website in the next couple of months.

No rush. You have answered my question. Thank you.

I've just dropped an order for some French Indo-China paras, British Falklands in berets and Argentinians for a  1959 mid-east thingy.

Wanted an excuse to buy some of the mid-east buildings.

... idiot! I didn't order the buildings!  :o
