Title: Viruses, Malware and all that gunk.
Post by: count_zero99uk on 17 August 2010, 10:43:34 AM
Ive just spent 12 hours cleaning my pc of malware after one silly click made without thinking.

If any of you do ever get any issues like this i can heartily recomend major geeks to get the thing cleaned.

I class myslef as an experienced computer user but any of us can get infected.

Anyway, i can carry on looking for pron now, er i mean....

Take care.
Surf clean.

Unlucky! I hate when that happens.

I'm an IT Pro and it still happens to me from time to time.

Most important thing is to keep your OS and Anti-Virus software up to date.

Use Windows Update if you're a PC or Software Update if you're a Mac.

If you're looking for free Anti-Virus software I highly recommend Microsoft Security Essentials.

To say nix is Virus free is not true at all.

Virus writers do have a harder time in a nix environment so thats something I suppose.

I'm an Ubuntu guy myself. You?

I mostly use debian, and it's my job to maintain hundreds several others (mostly debian too, some RedHat, Mandriva and Ubuntu)
I never found a virus on these OS (but some nasty things in scripts)

Yes, many security advantages.
