Title: HELP - Livery colours for WotR - which order
Post by: Last Hussar on 28 March 2015, 11:23:10 AM
When I research liveries on the internet, I continually find a list that has been copied from 'Hobilar' magazine - it appears on a number of sites, and is a comprehensive list for Bosworth and Stoke Field.

It lists two coloured liveries as 'X and Y', but doesn't indicate which way round they go.

It lists a number of Yorkists, including Eddy 4 and The Big Dick as 'Murray and Blue'.  This is the standard way in all the descriptions I've found of this livery.  Virtually all the images of this livery on the internet, and elsewhere, shows blue (the 'Y')  on the wearers 'Sword arm' and 'Red' (the 'X') on the 'Shield Arm' (I know shields weren't in favour, but its a easy way to avoid confusion of 'which left?'!)

Henry Stafford, duke of Buckingham, is Black and Red - the county flag of Bucks has the black on the viewers right (the sinister side if coat of arms) - I realise this is a bit tenuous.

However APART from the  Murray and Blue, all images I've seen (admittedly wargamers and re-enactors) have the X on the SWORD arm.

I am now confused.

HELP!  :'( :'( :'( :'(

Have you tried asking the College of Arms?
