Title: Been reading threads about Pendraken gripseal bags
Post by: cbr3d.com on 28 March 2015, 07:58:38 AM
I have come across a couple of threads on here discussing what people do / could do with the Pendraken zip-lock bags.  (Well worth a read if: a) You want a laugh, and on a darker side, b) you want to delve into the general psycohological make-up of the 'normal' member here (warning, the suggestions readily include drugs, kidnapping, violence, torture and of course sex   :D  )).

So as to not spoil the flow on the other threads and actually offer a mundane practical use for the Pendraken zip-lock bags thought I had better start a new thread.   :-\

How about tents and such like?  What I have done in the past is use zip-lock bags as canvas tents and vehicle coverings.  By applying a coating of PVA or other glue such as Modge Podge stiffens the plastic slightly but will also act as a base for paint to adhere to.  Make a simple frame from something like modelling wire or evem matchsticks and drape the cut plastic from the zip-lock bag over the frame and all different styles of tent or canvas covering can be mimmicked in this way.  (I should say that I prefer 'used bags' for this as it gives a worn texture appearance to the canvas model rather than being absolutely smooth as new unused bags would produce.)

If you want to produce a 'ridged' look canvas such as on a truck then drape the zip-lock bag plastic over a thin modelling wire or fuse wire frame and then gently heat with a hair drier, the plastic will tighten around the frame and give the 'ridged' appearance.

Just thought I would be absolutely boring and give a couple of wargaming / modelling uses for those zip-lock bags.  Somehow though I don't think it will get through the stockpile of bags members on here will have, so perhaps reading the other suggestions concerning drugs, kidnapping, violence, torture and of course sex would be more appropriate!   ;D

Like you say, Fig.ht.....That won't use up the (probable) stockpile of the bags that folk have managed to accumulate......
But what a damn fine idea !
Like that one !

May I just say that that's the most sensible answer to the question I asked?

Got any pics?

The tents are made out of the grip bags, right?

Knock at the door. Postie. More grip bags and another jiffy bag.

Bases, washes and decals.

Anyone else love the small of new bases?

Just me then.

What a plonker I am - obviously Grip bags!    :-[

I will wake up soon and try only doing one thing at a time.   :D :D

(If a mod can rectify the title it might help.)

So Gripbags are the same as Ziplock bags?

I would have thought so.  ;)

I'm not even going to TRY and change the topic title.....But I have modified all the references to Jiffy in the first post and made them zip-lock (I think)
Shout if you need any posts deleting, as it's slightly confusing now.  X_X

Potato - potato.

(That sounded better in my head.)

I think griplock and ziplock are probably interchangeable terms, though to my mind ziplock have a sort of wotsit that one draws across to close the bag, and a griplock is closed by just pushing the top together.

Just me then.

Me too; a noxious,  sulfurous mix, straight from the Dark Lord's furnaces (all hail).

I'll be using some of my grip-bags to pack up individual bits of 54mm battlefield detritus, e.g. discarded rifles, hats, webbing. I need to take the current lot into work tomorrow to hand over. While finding time to paint the extra 20  :!! :!!
