"Don't panic, wargamers are a friendly bunch...but they are borderline insane" :D
That brought back some memories :). Interesting that the comments such as "my die rolling is bad tonight" haven't changed one iota over the years :D.

Woodward himself became a trifle "rotund" in his later days. Happens to us all. :'( :'( :'(

I've just found an article about "Battleground" by Terry Wise in the June 1978 edition of Battle Magazine.
Well dont just stand there, go and scan it! ( the article in Battle obviously)
If anyone has watched the Waterloo episode you'll find, halfway through, someone has taped over it with some dodgy 80's programme.
VHS cassettes, remember them? :)
Just watched Edgehill. A very interesting peek into the history of wargaming.
Any one know what rules they were using? That artillery range stick was impressive.

Had to explain what they were to my daughter the other day, made me feel particularly ancient. :(
One of the Featherstone books made reference to bounce sticks etc

I still have one. Length of balsa painted to show the bounce of round-shot. I have the triangle of piano wire for grape-shot, too.
Excellent. I recall these also. Featherstone's rules were the first 'commercial' rules I've ever played. As a teenager, I previously used my own rules and was completely unaware of what was 'out there.' I also recall a shell burst template for Featherstone's ACW rules - each burst circle 2" diameter(?) which I think you used in conjunction with the stick.

We still use them for our Airfix Napoleonics ;)
Our
grape-shot canister wire is a much more sophisticated shape ;)
