I've just turned out my complete BOFA box set as yet untouched and you guessed it 40x20 bases, oooo I'm gonna have me some fun, now where's mi paintbrush, Warband BOFA here I come
Oh that I want to see!
Boo ive just rotted them up and it's only gonna amount to 5 units!!!
You do mean the big blue box from GW with loads of plastic figures?
I thought in WM terms (ie 3 x 20x40mm bases) there were 2 dwarves, 2 elves, 2 humans, Eagles quite a few commanders. And then 8 goblin foot, 4 wargs and 4 warg riders.
I'm liking the sound of this and might try to put together this as I have all the good troops painted and my mate has all the goblins ( possibly the goblins twice over).

Really? There's loads of troops in the full BOFA box. :o
If you use 4 20x40 bases in a unit there's a lot less, I guess if both armies were based the same it wouldn't matter would it? You could use 1 base as a unit you just need dice space, or you could mount 4 strips in a unit that would give a lot more but it would mean altering a valuable commodity
Or just use each 40x20 base as a unit?

I don't think the goblin army is the issue, it's the men and the elves :-\

The BoFA units aren't really suited to 4 bases per unit - but 3 per unit (at least for the good guys) would look good on sabot bases - you've seen blacksmith's photos

Agreed, you wouldn't have enough troops for 4 per unit with the men and Elves.
Unit wise how about the following:
The forces of Good
1 x Wood Elf Archers (40)
1 x Wood Elf Warriors (28)
1 x Great Eagles (83) - these might be a bit too good?
2 x Hill Dwarf Warriors (2 x 37)
1 x Dwarf Berserkers (Bejorn) 58
Lake Men
1 x Dragon Men Archers (40)
1 x Men at Arms (28)
One of the key things in the BoFA set was that the good guys got lots of heroes - Gandalf, the wood elf king, 2 x dwarven commanders (thorin and band and hill dwarfs) and Bard from Lake town
Obviously Gandalf can be represented by a Wizard base - but from which army list - High Elf looks possible (86)?
Thorin (and band) could be a Honour Guards (79). Then a Wood Elf and Dwarf General base at the 1d6 level, ( 65 + 75)?
This gives 656pts in total.
That's a serious points tally :o
Would the extra command translate to Warband?
Also, what would the gobbo point tally be?
The forces of Evil
These are a bit simpler
There are Wargs, Goblin riders, goblins, Blog and shamen
1 x Chieftain - 85
1 x Shamen - 64
8 x Warriors - 28
4 x Wolf Riders - 28
4 x Wargs (using Giant Spider stats?) 44, or the Wolf Rider stats with the addition of skirmish?
Only gives 450 odd if the wargs are at the cheaper points. So the forces of good may need toning down a bit. I can't recall if the Eagles fight in the battle or just chase off the goblins on the mountain. Also Bejorn is random as to when he turns up.

I don't know - its just throwing some ideas out. The BofA scenario is uneven in basic troops - but gives the good guys terrain and lots of heroes.

A unit with the Hero special ability?

The Eagles do both if memory serves. :-\

Top work!
Very pretty, Ironduke.
I'm not a big fan of miniatures cast in strips, but the GW stuff at least makes up for it in sculpt quality. And you've done them proud there sir!
Those units look fantastic!
Has anyone done any more LOTR stuff? I am putting together Rohan/Rangers and Orcs/Goblins forces using GW LotR range. Has anyone got any lists or ideas they can share?
Thanks
