Title: French & Dutch for League of Augsburg - Off White Recommendations
Post by: Glorfindel on 22 March 2015, 08:37:52 PM
Hi,

I'm about to start a new 10mm League of Augburg project and wondered if
anyone had any recommendations how to achieve the 'off-white' colour that
many of the Regiments wore.

I'm thinking of the Vallejo 'Offwhite' (obvious really !) but wondered if
anyone had any different thoughts ?

Ta,

Phil

You could go with a very light grey or beige base colour and then add a white highlight to it?

Mine will be various shades of white/grey to represent differing producers and campaign wear & tear

cheers

Thanks chaps,

I must admit that I've tried mixing my own colour when painting 28mm Frenchies (and it works fine)
but this time I wanted to find a colour that is commercially available so that I can easily replicate it.

Thanks again,

Phil

I find Vallejo Ivory a very useful highlight for off whites, it is warmer than a lot of the other options

The Wargames Foundry Austrian White Triad made be worth a look, it may be a little lighter than you were thinking but at 10mm it could do work well.

Most of it was undyed, unbleached wool, which could vary in shade from a light iron-grey through to off white. Individual units would probably be uniformed in the same shade, but the actual colour might vary greatly between regiments. You could therefore probably use any combination of greys, beiges and whites for your various units.

Thanks chaps,

Some excellent suggestions.   I started off thinking of the Vallejo Ivory as a highlight
but very much like the look of the Austrian triad.   Combining this with Vallejo's
Offwhite and Ivory will provide a good range of light greys.   This will give variety but
also make sure I can repeat any colours that work well.

Some really good ideas - very many thanks.   I will be ordering the figures at the end
of the month so should hopefully have something for you to look at soon.

I really fancy the idea of painting up some Dutch Regiments - fantastic variety of colours
together with some interesting allies.   Great stuff.

Thanks again,

Phil
