I'm currently battling with several projects; many of which are close to completion apart from........... Bases!!!
I hate basing. Love the finished article but the process is interminable >:(
So, what's your painting hate? Could be a unit, might be an item ; whatever.
What's yours and why?
Tyres. Damned round things!
Yeah, having moved into WW2, I'm now realising some of the difficulties painting straight things and round things.
Horse furniture. Boring as hell!
As in bridles etc?
I hate trying to keep my "blackline" whilst painting tack.
Yep, horse tack is a pain.
Toy soldiers!
Something of a disadvantage for a wargamer, I feel.
I love the end result, the process ... not so much.
The house
I'm 50-50 on that one.
Sometimes I'm all over it (usually when a game's looming), sometimes... meh =)

;D ;D ;D
That's not painting, that's female appeasement... peace in our time ;)
With Getagrip on this on - basing!
Never quite seem to translate what's in my head to what ends up in my hands >:(
Otherwise it's trying to use those horrible decals that you stick in water aaaargh!
So true on the head-reality equation ~X(
I hate painting irregular infantry....
Well, actually I hate the idea of the irregular infantry, I enjoy all painting.
Except edging in on 1:1 scale redecorating!
I dont like painting Irregular troops, as I mentioned on the 6mm thread. I hate trying to make them look irregular. Dont like basing either
I hate never having TIME to paint anything, :'( :'( :'(
And I really want to get the paints out, again.
Cheers - Mr Smokey (Just had a massive bonfire....Poo, I smell ! ;))
Come on Matron, crack open the old enamels, it's not like you've got a "proper" job :D

You do know that when the fire gets going, you're supposed to get off?
No Nobby,
You're not supposed to be on in the first place!
Maybe he has a Guy Fawkes fetish
To go with all the others :D
Ducks .......... I hate painting ducks ...........
Why?
....... for some reason, acrylics just don't work ...... and an ink wash just runs off ....
[thankfully, I don't use them (much) in war-games]

This. Just this.
I actually like painting horses. For me, I don't like painting limbers.

This. Totally this. Doubly so when you can't find any conclusive reference to colour, do it a generic colour and then immediately find condescending "everyone knows blah-blah always had purple coloured gear" that some how escaped notice..
Or even just black. As you then go back and repaint black all the stuff you undercoated black and then painted over...
Horses. Dulllllllllllllllllllllllllll. (except Red Injuns).
Good things, the meso-americans had none, then.
Pikemen. Any scale - loath them. There's just too many of them!
Also 1:1 scale houses...

Why d'you think I'm so eager to get them?
So you can spend hours painting jaguar spots.

Seriously, never tried that, does that work? (Once - and only once - painted Murat on his horse complete with leopard skin horse furniture) Is it not a bit 'grainy' and if so, would not flow off your brush?
Horses (even one or two 'professional' painting services are a tad suspect when it comes to horses).
Stonework (and brickwork). I spend ages painting a stone bridge for example and still not completely sure about the result.
No, no, no. Banter. Don't put that on my conscience! I was kidding!!!!! X_X
About bricks : Paint it brown red.
Then spots of different reds, brown, orange (You don't need to be accurate)
Kind of dry/wet brush of a lighter orange/red vertically from top to bottom. (zenithal light)
LET DRY !!
You can put a matt varnish if you wish so now.
Then, with oil colours, put light grey/white in the cracks. Clean the walls with a towel to let the white (mortar) only in the cracks.
It is over.

I like that; it describes a process I can never fully explain. ;)
Reins, saddles, bits, and all the other leather straps on horses that I don't know the names of.
How many horses' names are significant in the hobby? Beucephalus, Marengo...ummm, there must be a few more....
Binky ?
Cheers - Phil
Babieca, Cincinnati, Copenhagen, Llamrei, Matsukaze, Reckless, Traveller, Veillantif spring to mind FK.
Reckless is not only a horse but also a decorated US Marine!!
OK, then Leman can paint their gear, tackle, and trim.

About those I don't know the names of. I do know Neddy, Dobbin, Trigger, Flicker, Champion and Traveller.
There is one horse whose name should be known and feared by all who tread this forum. His coat is black, pure black, as black as night in a coal mine. His eyes flash red in permanent rage and his from his hooves sparks fly as he clatters abroad, black steam rising from his overheated coat. He has been trained with whip and birch not to fear man but to trample any who try and halt his wide careering. He cannot be truly tamed, but may be subdued and bent to the will if one is strong and fearless enough. Many have tried, and some have survived.
This wild beast recognises only one master - The Dark Lord, and willingly carries him on the Dark Lord's sojourns to the land of mere mortals, but even the Dark Lord has never laid bridle of the great stallion, and instead grips the sable mane and rides bareback. Sidesaddle.
The name of the great mount? Binky.
The Dark Lord - Magnificent with 10mm figures - hopeless at horse names - FSN
What has Mr Death got to do with this?
What about Muffin the Mule?

You can get arrested for that :D
S'okay, my coat's still on ;)

(I've changed it back!)

Civilians, The clothes never sem to look right
cavalry .
jim
Cavalry is fine... So long as you play in 6mm :D
I hate to paint everything, it's a necessary evil, and basing is even worse!
But I will admit to sometimes I actually feel like painting, and find it relaxing. Though I'd certainly rather be playing ;)
V/R,
Jack
I sometimes find an upcoming game is the motivation I need to hit the brushes.
just been asked by an old friend to paint his British peninsula cavalry.
He was the guys who inspired me to start painting in the first place!
I changed my mind. Sails. I hate painting sails even more than I hate painting pikemen....

But you are good at both of them Nic
Wow, they're stunning :-bd
What so I hate painting? Everything!
Hate the ships if you must, but they look pretty good.
I really hate painting bases where the figures are in close-order ranks. Getting the brush in between these figures is a nightmare - the only consolation being that the various splashes and blemishes aren't easily seen.
I don't hate painting anything, but last night I remembered I'm not keen on the cleaning or assembly bit!

Cheers lads, they are like impressionis paintings thogh - lovely at a distance, but so rough when you're close up. Luckily my camera on my phone is also rubbish, so that covers up some of the sloppyness. :D
Pikemen are boring. Sails were sent by some god as divine retribution for some abomination I must have done in a former life.....
