I'm starting this to hopefully help keep me motivated and on track to finish.
This is my first 10mm project, it's just like the title describes, one Early Imperial Roman army and one Ancient British army. I'm currently planning on using 60mm frontages and using them with DBA 3.
Before starting this project I would prep, prime and paint a single unit at a time. This time I've desided to approach it differently. I've spent the last three weeks prepping and cleaning the Roman army. This morning I've finished priming them, and tonight I finally get to start painting :)
I'll be posting pics as I go and hopefully it shouldn't take to long to finish.
I hope you'll have fun modelling some of the zany (or at least unusual) elements in the Claudian army. Look forward to seeing 'em.
Hopefully you will save some time especially with preping everything first. (It does get boring but is worth it in the long run I have found.)
Looking forward to seeing the results.
looking forward to seeing these (big fan of Romans) :-bd
Have fun with this one! :D
One of my future plans, also using 6omm frontage but with Impetus.
I've got a stack of Romans on the heap; be nice to see someone else's ;)
Not my era, but will be interested how this turns out.
Oof! I hate the prep work on large numbers of models. Kudos to you for getting stuck in with that.
Looking forward to seeing the finished models!
I shall this keep an eye on this project
Take care
Andy
Like everyone else....Looking forward to seeing this progress, Ken. :)
Cheers - Phil
I bought some second hands minis from another 10mm caster.
I've managed to paint and base 2 chariots so far on 40mm x 40mm base.
I made all the missing leather reins with metal sheat, resculpted the position of the drivers...I'm mad.
So, my Celt/Britton project is now in a stall.
I've got a 10mm Roman army -I say army, it's actually 4 cohorts of legionnaires, 2 of auxiliaries and both units of cavalry- all painted and a Pendraken Ancient Britsh battlepack mostly unpainted, so this is of interest to me as well. All of mine are on 60 x 40 with 3 bases to a cohort so there are nearly 50 legionnaires in each. Looks impressive and I will probably use Impetus when they are all done.
Keep us posted.
I'll say it Sub, before anyone else says it harshly. The Romans had legionaries and the French have legionnaires.

Barbarian, are you aware that the English word "stall" can have two meanings - to grind to a halt, or as a stable-box for a horse? You could mean either here. ;)
I'm a genious.
By the way, it happens to me that I produce wordplays inadvertently in Italian (which is not my primary language) and when it occurs, I laugh like a child.
My wife looks at me strangely with a bit of "it's-not-even-funny" in her eyes.
'Now in a stall' - i.e. the project is boxed off?

Honestly, I didn't know that, but fair enough. I'll go and stand in the corner facing the wall for 10 mins whilst reciting Romans only had one 'n' and France has two.
..... and the i and the e are the other way round.
You're milking this one for all it's worth, aren't you? :D

Pretty harsh on the French to say they're all diseased. I mean more than average maybe, but not all of them ;)
This is nearly as good as the Ancient Egyptian slam.
"Yo mamma's so stoopid that she pointed to a jakal headed statue and said to me 'what dat?' an' I said 'Anubis' and she said 'wot was wrong with the old bis?' "
Surely "Legionary" is correct because "Legionnaire" is French?
I'd assume so - they don't even know what entrepreneur means after all
Wow, I leave for a few to fix some missed primer spots and this is what happens. Don't you guys have toy soldiers to paint? :D
Nope......Got far too many to make.
Painting's something that happens to other people. :'( :'(
Cheers - Phil
Why don't Pendraken have like two or more sculptors? You seem to have to make almost everything
They do, three I know of ;)
The others must not have enough arms to type and sculpt at the same time. I imagine Techno looks a bit like this
(http://vignette1.wikia.nocookie.net/warhammer40k/images/7/78/Tech-Priest_2.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20111026165434)
weirdly this also came up in the same image search
(http://wh40kart.im/_images/a648b002ecb5450c4c264fdcac265301.jpg)
Not sure whether it turns me on or scares me. Fairly sure i must be sad to have found it at all though.

Interesting the the two have historically called syphilis "the French disease" and "the English disease". Even odder that neither blamed the Americans, though it came from there.
(Anybody else share my enjoyment of Susan Sontag's
AIDS and its Metaphors?)
As diseases can't be caused by clean people like wot us are, it stands to reason they must be caused by dirty foreigners, innit? ;) That was probably the Americans' reasoning, though with "gosh darn it" instead of innit. It's an internet fact which i just made up that 55% of all Americans have fake noses due to syphilis.
Amazed it was never called the Runcorn disease :D
Making progress today. Just finished up the first group of Archers this morning. :D

It is in Widnes. In Runcorn, it is called the Widnes disease.
Lovely work Ken!
Excellent paint job Ken :-bd
Really neat!
It's OK, FK.....I understand 5555, now. :)

Sorry. In Thai, the number 5 is
hah, spoken with a falling tone. Anyone who's lived here, including locals, uses that to show laughter.
p.s. Those archers are the cat's pajamas.
That's some nice work there Ken! Consistent finish, too. My quality drops if I paint more than 2 or 3 models at once.
Thank you all :)
I'm hoping to finish off the next set so I can start playing around with basing.

I'm annoyed with you Ken >:( ... my Roman's were so far on the back burner you'd need a telescope to see 'em... 'til I saw yours.
Hmm...
Mongols,
6mm armour,
Orcs to finish,
Undead to finish (but Phil's sculpting more so I'll undoubtedly buy more),
28mm DMH to finish,
10mm Empire (30YW / Elizabethan) to finish.
Oh and Romans!!!
Seriously great painting Ken =D>
Great paint-job, Ken.
Finished up a few more archers for the Romans. Just a few more and I can move on to the Auxilia. :D

Very nice

Finished the first Cavalry last night, I'll post pictures a little later today.
Looking forward to that !

At this rate I might be done around this time next year, assuming I figure out how I want to base them. :-X
Lovely stuff.
That was definitely worth the wait !! :-bd :-bd
Cheers - Phil
Agreed. They are very good. Jealous! :-bd
Very nice
:-bd =D> :-bd =D> :-bd
MOAR.
or in a civilise manner :
I'd like to see more of these delicious, delicious miniatures. (don't try to eat them)
Nice work Ken :-bd
I have an army of these myself, cracking sculpts particularly the legionaries.
Lovely stuff, Ken! I'm particularly jealous of the horses. :-bd
Thanks for the comments, they help keep me motivated to paint more :)
Hot off the painting desk tonight, another group of Cavalry.

Close ups, flash and 10mm don't really mix all that well. I'm pretty sure they didn't look that bad when I finished them :-X
Thanks for looking,
Ken
They look terrific, Ken ! :-bd =D>
Blown up to around 5 (?) times actual size, they still look damn good.
Think you've done particularly well with close up, using flash !.....If I tried that, the shot would be completely bleached out.
Cheers - Phil
Maybe for the next ones, using adremel to make the spears pointy ?
Nice work!
Great painting, Ken, and super photography. A professional once told me that flash is the enemy of model photography and to use available light (or professional lighting) if at all possible. But yours seem to be first class.
Really cracking job! :-bd
Nice stuff Ken
(I always use the flash when photoing mini's :))
Thanks for the comments :-[
One of these days I'll get myself a light box and take some proper photos.
Up next are.... Wait for it..... More Cavalry!
Despite being down for a few days with allergies, I managed to finish another group of Cavalry
(http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c297/kmfisher/image.jpg1_zpsao9dtokr.jpg) (http://s29.photobucket.com/user/kmfisher/media/image.jpg1_zpsao9dtokr.jpg.html)

Really nice job on those Ken, nice shading on the spears and shields, i also like the lighter colours of horse, something i might try instead my usual dark browns .
kev
Terrific work, Ken. :-bd
Don't know what it is about certain shades of blue.....But I just love the one you've used on the shields.
Cheers - Phil
They are just so good! :-bd
For some reason I can't see any of the pics. I'm not even getting the box with 'image' in it. Any ideas. It's not just this post either only some of them.
That tends to only happen with some photos, if you look through the forum without logging on.
Strange. :-\
Cheers - Phil.
Thank you everyone. I'm moving a bit faster with this than I thought I would, I might even be able to get a game in with them this year :D
I've got them linked through photobucket, so I'm not sure why they wouldn't show up :-\
Great stuff, got some early Romans to do myself so it was really nice to see, thanks for sharing
Ditto.
