What models would people recommend to build a battalion of Volkssturm for Blitzkrieg Commander?
GR1,2,4,6,7. Not that I own any (yet). :D
It's more a matter of how you mix them, really. I'm the local German player for WWII stuff, so I've got books and bags of lead of all sorts throughout the war. Two other scales, however.
I believe they did not have many MG's, more SMG's and panzerfausts. Throw in the occasional NCO and you're good! 8)
Panzerfausts on bicycle too. I think the paint job should also go a long way to creating the "rag tag" look.
Welcome aboard Raffles ;)
Welcome on board Raffles.
First thoughts are to look at some of the Afrika Korps figures, WWI and SCW to give you a real mix of stuff. Hope this helps?

Anything that doesn't look too regimented would work.
What ho! Raffles!
Welcome to the forum. May your stay be long and fruitful.
Ooh! Missed that one on the bike until now. Neat!

Hello LR
I'd mix in some WW1 Austrians and Serbs, VBCW civilians in flat caps (BR154), SCW militia (SCW10) and Boers without the hat brim upturned:-

Good post grumpy, what's the code for the guy top left?
Hello getagrip
The guys top left are the AH1 WW1 Austrians in cap, but I believe the standing firing guy is from the Afrika Korp.
While looking through Pendraken lists I did see GR144 Volksturm with panzerfaust, haven't seen it but it might fit into a Volkssturm battalion :D, maybe in partnership with GR45 Infantry pushing loaded bicycle.
Cheers

Thanks. I'm currently trying to decide if I do BKC in 10mm on a small scale or 6mm on a larger scale (if you'll pardon the oxymoron.
If I'm honest, I'll probably do both :)

Personally I'd recommend 10mm. I've played Cold War Commander in 6mm, and whilst the tanks etc are ok, it's a bugger to differentiate troop types one on the table. 10mm also looks better as a game for WWII IMHO.

I agree on both counts Steve but I know I'll end up fighting bigger and bigger battles and, 10mm is both considerably more expensive and needs loads more storage space. :-\
At the club we play 10mm on a relatively large scale. Just make sure you have lots of terrain.

I think that applies to any "Warmaster" based game.
What size table do you play on Orcs?

Excellent choices, I never would have thought of Serbs and Austraians!
Just made my purchase :D
We will want some pics when you're done. 8)
I've already made commitment to show my FoG camps when I get them done. Waiting for the box to hit the porch right now... :'(

Ihave shown it before and i'll show it again, these are my BKC armies. I originally wanted to have two 2000 point armies to play against my buddy'sforces. Guess i ended up bigger too ;D

Also, would you please be able to give me a sample army list you've actually used? :)

Neato! If only I didn't have to tilt my head so far to the left. :P
I just right-click on the picture and then Rotate Right. Impressive selection.
I'd say they were 10mm getagrip

I have Firefox and Windows 7 so perhaps it's the Image Zoom add-on that's letting me rotate the image? There are lots of interesting add-ons for Firefox that I have loaded and I often struggle to remember which one does what!
Back on track - remembered that I put together this diagram a few years ago
http://www.kerynne.com/games/GermanRegt.html
(http://www.kerynne.com/games/images/GermanKG/German%20Grenadier%20Regiment.gif)
Which even shows that 7.5cm guns as support and as AT!!
Perfect. Thanks Fred :-bd
You got one of them for mechanised and panzer too? B)
Not for the Germans - do have the British ones if you follow the link.
Panzer is pretty straight forward 3-5 PzIV, 3-5 Panthers, some SPGs
Mech is half a panzer and half an infantry.

almost everything is pendraken, only half a dozen pithead vehicles in there.
As you can see, fred is also firmly in the 'mistakes were made' camp

There are a few batreps on here that i did with the armylists mentioned:
one from normandy:
http://www.pendrakenforum.co.uk/index.php/topic,8367.0.html
and one from late eastern front:
http://www.pendrakenforum.co.uk/index.php/topic,8283.0.html
And then a few who have no army list, but the forces are pretty obvious anyway :
