Finally finished Kublai Khan's command platform.
This was the inspiration (thanks Subedai)
I used 4 of the elephants from the Indian range (AI2). There is only one pose so I chopped heads and legs off and repositioned for some variety. The platform was made with matchsticks, paperclips and green stuf. It were a bugger to do!

Stunning. Possibly the best Command Stand I have ever seen :o :o :o
That really is awe inspiring work, well done, it must have taken ages.
Truly wonderful Matt. :)
Shouldn't there be a spare elephant on the back in case of punctures ?
Excellent stuff.
IanS
Just spotted the tiger skins in the roof! That's incredible. :o

about 2 and half weeks working a couple of hours most evenings. The pagoda was the trickiest thing. I had to rebuild it a couple of times as it just wasn't staying symmetrical. Expecting bits of paperclip to just stay in place without any support and adhere was maybe a bit naïve of me (my finger tips have no skin remaining) and the bloody roller blinds would stick to everywhere but where I wanted them to.

Cheers mate, quite chuffed how they came off they're just little pieces of paper 4mm x 5mm.
Kublai just needs an army to lead now.

Blimey, that scratch build is a brave and excellent piece of work; I feel for your lack of finger tips :D I know that feeling all too well!
Looks stunning.
Absotively excellent. Some of the best and most inspirational painting of a Mongol subject I have seen for ages, especially when you consider it's in 10mm. I've even opened another tab so that I can have another look at the pics as I type. Fortunately -in one respect- the campaigns of Qubilai are a little late for me otherwise I would want one of those.
=P~ =P~ =P~
The pattern work on the elephant's coverings is beautifully executed, as are the tiger skins; I can easily understand why it took so long.

I hope you don't mind and please don't think that I am nit-picking in any way or trying to denigrate what is a beautiful piece but did you know that the white banner (tsagaan sulde) was only carried in times of peace and the black banner (kara sulde) was the war banner.
But if you saw THAT coming towards you, you would instantly surrender!
This only white banner needed! :P

I remember reading that now. It is easy to remedy and I'd rather be accurate whenever possible cheers for the heads up Subs :)

Forum General Rule: "Please refrain from posting meaningless threads like one word (or short) nonsense posts."Wow sounds
meaningful enough to me, Ithoriel. Absolutely fantastic, Matt! :-bd :-bd
I love it !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
looking fabulous
Utterly brilliant and it's a shame you couldn't use the aerial shot for the competition (although I can see why).
Stunning,
Wow,
Amazing,
JEALOUS :P ;) =D>
Totally awesome, what work, I could only ever dream of getting anywhere remotely close to that. m/
That's really rather excellent.
The basic idea is totally potty in a megalomaniacal kind of way.
As a show of power it definitely takes some beating. (Still would like to get me one of those.)
According to Marco Polo, at a single battle against his uncle Nayan, Qubilai had an army of 460,000 against 300,000 rebellious Mongols! You need something a little ostentatious when those numbers are involved.

Did you mean in the trunk?
The words "I am not worthy!" rush unbidden to the ends of my fingertips. Quite simply - magnificent. Pardon me while I withdraw into the study with the bottle of whisky and the mess Webley. I may be some time! :'(
Mollinary
Do you want the ammunition this time too?
Woo hooo! Why should the fantasy brigade have all the crazy stuff?

No - the boot.....GET YOUR COAT.

If I didn't make that joke it would have been a stream of abuse: its not fair the people on herewho paint 10mm better than I paint anything.
It is great!
For those of us "of a certain age"
How do you stop Kublai Khan attacking?
Dial trunk and reverse the charge :D
