Title: The updated Forum General Rules post
Post by: Roy on 23 February 2015, 12:02:29 PM
I see this topic has been updated today by Leon

http://www.pendrakenforum.co.uk/index.php/topic,1158.0.html (http://www.pendrakenforum.co.uk/index.php/topic,1158.0.html)

I did read it a couple of years back (that previous version, that is), but reading all the forum rules it's interesting to see how many I break.

One of the major points I would like clarification upon is this -

"Please refrain from posting meaningless threads like one word (or short) nonsense posts."

This being a wargaming/figure painting/hobby forum, what counts as meaningless threads?
What is a thread?
Is a thread the individual post made on a topic, or is the whole topic the thread?
Some areas of the forum promote off-topic banter, but then banter or none-wargaming topics also pop up in the general discussion thread of the wider wargaming sub-board.
In all honesty, I don't really know where to post, what to post, or what I can or can't post and so just go with the flow or what the others are doing.

By the way; I'm not trying to moan or make a complaint, I am genuinely confused.

Thanks. Roy

Does this mean we're no longer meant to "banter" like we have been? :-\

Sorry, please delete my last post.

I meant ho ho ho Fenton, that really amused me (big grin).

Steve; might want to delete your LOL; that's not allowed anymore (big grin).

Personally i try to avoid the forum equivalent of a 'facebook LIKE', and the 'banter' comes pretty close to that sometimes, but then who'd want to stop that?

I do think its always better to put a bit of a longer response together though.

Rather than 'cool', or '+1', explain why its cool or +1?

However, given that Pendraken's star is rising, and this is pretty much the most vibrant, friendly, and useful forum around - i'd say its going well despite the nettiquette 'breach'.

One feels, enforcing extended prose on wargamers would very much be like herding cats...   ;D

It would also be interesting to see how many of the 399 posts on Sunday (a forum record) wouldn't have met the new "criteria"  :-\

I only know about Leon's update due to it being mentioned (and linked to) in the latest Pendraken Newsletter.
I'd quite forgotten about the existence of them, previous to that.

I once did ask in the Top Totty thread if there was any rules for that topic (you see this is where I'm stuck, I want to call it a thread!), basically asking how much nudity was allowed. Nobody really knew, it was just taken that there would be no nudity - until someone quickly posted a topless woman (and Leon quickly replaced it with an edited version of the image with kitten's faces placed over each nipple).

Rules - What are they  :-\

Seriously The Forum is open for younger members to join, although I do not know of any and the age survey we did suggested all were over 20 (Physicaly if not mentally).

So the general rule seems to be - Totty should be clothed in someway- even if its clever body paint. Lower lady parts should be covered.

Swear words should be edited like in the cartoon strip "Hagar the Horibble" ie you stupid A'~#h^le

As for one word answers I am not sure because the Dark lord himself often relpies with just a smiley. So if its not allowed we would have to ban him !!

It seems to me that everybody generally sticks to the rules without actually knowing what the rules are. For some reason and despite any circumstantial evidence to the contrary, this forum seems to be governed by the One Rule and that is Common Sense.

Title: Re: The updated Forum General Rules post

I did wonder whether this would come up while I was editing the rules...  :D

It basically meant that we didn't want any nonsense posted, along the lines of "Blahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh" just for the sake of it, or to pad out your post count.  Now of course there is a fair amount of random banter that takes place on a daily basis around here, and we certainly don't want to dissuade that.

So, just to keep things simple, and to protect my right to post "  8) " as a reply, I've deleted that rule from the guidelines.

Just bear in mind that, "Baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!" or "Wibble" is not a suitable reply to anything...  :-\

Thanks everyone for helping to alleviate my confusion on this issue.
I thought a nice, serious discussion would just be the ticket to help me figure this all out.
When I say "a nice, serious discussion" I obviously mean in the sense of a Parliamentary debate in the Commons ... which just resembles this, in fact!
We've even got our own Mr. Speaker trying to shout down the oiks with cries of 'Order. Order!"

I think I'm just going to have to stay off, except for when I post 10mm or actual wargaming stuff.
The banter/off-topic stuff just pulls me in and I go too far. It'll only hurt my web-presence, so it's best I knock it on the head as much as I can.

Yeah, you're both right. I've had a word with a moderator through a private message and there's no harm done.

I'm going to just stick with wargaming subjects for a while though, as I want to begin work on a few 10mm projects.

If I get caught up in another internet fiasco, I'll have to change my username and email addresses again!  :D
