Title: Lucille Ball dies in Eastenders ?
Post by: Techno on 20 February 2015, 08:04:00 PM
Haven't watched Eastenders for decades.
But all over the radio this morning, 'they' were telling me that Lucille Ball had been murdered by Bobby Ball in some cliffhanger of a plot.
Is this correct......?

I thought Lucille Ball died years and years ago......And Bobby Ball a murderer ?
Sounds like the sort of convoluted storyline that Nobby would come up with.

Cheers - Confused of Wales.

Not sure Phil I have never watched Eastenders

Cannon and Ball murdered comedy for years so it might be true

I never watch it either - life is far to depressing anyway.

It's about time all the soaps were put on a Virgin or Sky sub channel so that I DON'T have to dodge them.

I can just imagine Bobby Ball's demeanour just before the fatal blow; curmudgeonly face, hands on hips and the famous words,"Eeh, I can't stand any more of t' useless Yankee non-humour!"

I get narked 'cos the programs I like are always put off because of some stupid sports thing, but the soaps are sacrosanct.

My idea then is to dump both sports and soaps onto one channel and watch the sparks fly.

Having said that, my first fiancee was a keen Corrie fan, with a very comfortable lap. I had many a gentle nap with that combination.

I used to watch Eastenders, around 30 years ago !  :-[ :-[
Never watched any of the others.
We'll have to do a list of what we won't watch...akin to Radio 4's "I've never seen Star Wars".

There are SO many I won't go near.

Don't watch - soaps
                   reality tv
                   cookery
                  property programmes
                  antiques programmes
competitive programmes - jungle, voice etc
                  most sport

In fact, apart from news, I rarely watch live tv anymore.

I mainly watch American "cop" shows (the various flavours of NCIS, CSI and Law & Order plus things like Justified, Body of Proof, Person of Interest, Castle) and history items on Beeb 4 and Yesterday.

Amongst the endless "The Nazis, weren't they histories version of a car crash - horrible ... and fascinating" there have been some rather good Ancients period documentaries by the likes of Mary Beard, Alice Roberts and Bettany Hughes (the latter being thinking man's crumpet if ever there was!) on at "stupid o'clock in the morning."

Only soap I followed was The Archers but that's become worse than the TV versions so it only gets listened to when it comes on and I'm deep in a virtual dungeon or up to my eyes in paint and glue and don't want to go change channels.

My TV doesn't get sport on any of it's channels ... no, really .... look .... see ... Channel Unavailable .... what? ... what do you mean I deliberately typed in the wrong channel code ...   :-[ :d :d :d

Is that the one with 487 parts, irritating twee music and grating voice over?

Oh yes, it was.

Sorry, I tried it but was so up its own backside I couldn't take more than an episode.

I used to watch a lot of NHK World (the english-language version) Japanese news. The usual format was the top half of the hour would be news and the second part, factual programmes or documentaries.
Al Jazeera (English version) features some good factual programmes too. I watched a programme on the war between the Egyptians/Arabs and the Israelis a few months back. Lots of interesting 'historic' footage and it gave an unbiased view for both sides.
RT News (Russia Today) is a tad more Moscow-friendly. If they can bash the US, they will.

I like a good quiz program - University Challenge, Only Connect and Mastermind.

I watch AL Jazerra a lot now just for the ordinary news as the BBC no longer seems to cover world news anymore in any depth. I agree some of the documentaries on it are excellent

The Musketeers is getting to be a big favourite. The king is a right twonk, and we seem to be seeing a bit more of Constance.

How much more?

Anyhoo. Watched a good documentary about the Battle of 73 Easting the other week on Quest (UK tv channel). As well as the usual film footage from the first Gulf War, commentary & views from historians and accounts from actual participants, it gave a blow by blow account using CGI - found it quite impressive. I think it might have been Episode 1 in the Great Tank Battles series. next episode is about the Yom Kippur war (bound to have Centurions/Sh'ot, fsn). On Quest, this Monday evening coming at 9.00 (10.00 on +1).

Watched that too Westmarcher, I agree well worth a watch.

I say watched but actually mainly I listened while I painted and turned round occasionally for the cgi/ action bits!

Always happy to watch Constance....and to be fair the Queen (though she looks like she needs a pie)

Anyway I won't watch any sort of medical drama (product of growing up with a mum & sister who were nurses and insisted on watching Angels)

According to my wife I will watch "any old sh*te" that has tanks, ghosts, is underwater or preferably all 3.

Are you not fed up with underwater tank ghost programs? I got rid of the UTG Channel and don't miss it.

I took my (now ex-) wife to Bovington. Whilst I stood in awe of the Churchill AVRE, she opined "it's a tank. A green tank. Another green tank." It was at that point I knew our marriage wouldn't last. We hadn't even made it into the post war galleries!

Silent witness (Emelia Fox)
Castle (Stana Katic and Molly Quinn)
Spooks (Jo Portman, Lara Pulver, Keely Hawes)
Dr Who (Karen Gillan)

:-\ :-\ :-\ seems to be a recuring theme here  ;D

Only thing I avidly watch at the moment is Battlestar Galactica. I never saw it first time round, and am too young to have seen the '70s show (though I did have a bedspread of it, back in the 80s).

I'm most disappointed at not being able to watch the Indian Premier League cricket this year, because bloody Sky has bought the rights! There was always plenty of sari-wearing eye candy to admire, if nowt else.

The IPL is broadcast live on  you tube

As a tip I would never recommend using a site like www.vipbox.tv ( mobile version) using the puffin browser ( flash capable) on my tablet then using a HDMI cable to make it run the feed on the TV

Was given the box-set of that as a prezzie.
It gets rather confusing towards the end, when they try and get out of corners, they've written themselves into.

Still very enjoyable though !

I've been chaining the boxsets on Netflix whilst painting; currently approaching the end of series 4: cracking programme.  ;)

Prepare to start scratching your head & going "Eh ?", once that series is finished.  ;)
It gets a wee bit 'cosmic' during the final episodes.

I tried to like the reboot of BSG (mainly because I was the only one in my circle who didn't like the original) but it felt too much like "Neighbours-in-Space" for my taste so I gave up after about half a dozen episodes.

Loathe Soaps, reality TV, Sport, Downton Abbey, Call the Midwife and even got fed up with Top Gear.

In fact I don't watch much TV at all these days but I do enjoy Dr Who and Three Musket while some BBC4 arts and music programms are quite good.  My guilty pleasure however is 'Death in Paradise', much to wifey's horror, I currently watch it on iplayer on a Sunday evening while herself gorges on Call the Midwife and Indian Summer.

I really like Death in Paradise, so glad to hear at the end of this one that there's another in the works.

Did have my doubts when Kris Marshall took over from Ben Miller but he slotted in effortlessly.

Josephine Jobert (Florence) is a great replacement for Sara Martins (Camille) too. As an actress. as a character and as eye-candy!
