Hi
Me and two other guys in our club are about to embark on a campaign set in the fictional country of Andovia roughly set in central Europe circa 1850-1860. I wrote a bit of a back ground story to set the scene.
The people of Andovia have dreaded this day for considerable amount of time. The ancient ruler of Andovia the grand duke James the great has finally succumbed to his injuries suffered 50 years previous from a bizzare gardening accident. Unfortunately his sole heir Duke Colin ( the insane) has come to the throne. The Andovian army has been rendered useless as Duke Colin has banned it from using firearms and cannon as he doesn't like the noise they make. They are now armed with nothing more than pointy sticks and rusty swords. The neighbouring countries are watching with intent as they make their plans. To the north the debauched and deviant Kingdom of Kendrickstein (prussians). To the west the cruel and militaristic Kingdom of Bayernsreich ( Bavaria). To the east the greedy and brutal Grand Duchy of Heisenburg (Russia). So the scene is set for the monumental struggle that will become know as The war of the Andovian succession.
The first battle will be fought tomorrow between Heisenburg and Kendrickstein.
Cheers
Jim
Sounds greasyily great!

That is interesting :-bd m/
Be interesting to follow this. :)
Which rules you using for this Jim?
Hi
Black powder and pendraken figures (obviously ).
Wrote the campaign rules myself which are really simple no book keeping. They can be adapted to any period.
jim
Thanks Jim ;)
The rules worthy of a share? hint hint :)
The rules are easily adapted. The copy if you want them will be for our campaign but feel free to change anything. They are based on a ladder the first to the top wins. The nation's and units involved are adaptable.
Send me a pm and I can send you a copy.

Hi
Sundays battle report
Battle of Wolowitz Farm
Battle Type – Counter Attack
After their initial incursion into the Kingdom of Andovia had met with little or no opposition the Heisenberg High Command were feeling a little overconfident. To this end they detached a large part of their field army to the area around Wolowitz's Farm. Unfortunately for them the Kingdom of Kendrickstein just happened to be coming in the opposite direction. Choosing to stand and fight rather than withdraw, despite being outnumbered, the Heisenberg General Von Goodman sent riders back to call for reinforcements and then made his battle plan.
Turn 1/Turn 2
The Kendrickstein forces began a slow methodical advance across a broad front. This was almost mirrored by the Heisenberg army as both sides tried to get themselves formed into a winning position. Despite being at the extreme of their range both armies proved a little trigger happy firing volley after volley at each other. The training of both forces as well accusations of the Bayereich having sold both sides substandard ammo came to the fore as despite the volume of fire neither side could hit the side of a barn.
Turn 3/Turn 4
Again both sides tried to outmanoeuvre each other but Brigade commanders seemed to have difficulty interpreting their orders and several brigades stood around twiddling their thumbs as commanders tried to match up their orders with their maps.
Despite this the Heisenberg army managed to inflict enough casualties to cause one battery of Kendrickstein horse artillery to turn tail and rout of the battlefield.
Turn 5/Turn 6
Both sides were now well within musketry range and were trading volley for volley. In the centre of the Heisenberg casualties has shaken the 3rd battalion of the Von Skyler regiment. The brigade commander tried in vain to rally the battalion. In a panic the battalion turned and ran taking their commander with them.
This led to confusion in the Heisenberg centre as junior officers tried to keep control, as the 1st battalion Von Skyler regiment when ordered to fill the gap took this as an order to charge the Kendrickstein line. Despite being fired on as the closed with the enemy, the closed into melee. At first it seemed that this blunder would break the Kendrickstein line, however the Kendrickstein proved to be made of sterner stuff and held their position and forced the 1st battalion back.
Turn 7/Turn 8
As the battle continued to rage, conditions began to favour the forces of Heisenberg as finally their reinforcements arrived. Their orders were simply attack. To this end the Heisenberg infantry advanced on mass towards the Kendrickstein centre. Seeing this advance the Heisenberg lancer regiment 'Walt' decided they were tough enough to take on a regiment of Kendrickstein cuirassiers. The resulting melee proved quite the opposite as the cuirassiers smashed the Walt lancers chasing them off the battlefield.
In the centre of the battlefield the Kendrickstein Guard Cuirassiers thinking breastplates could stop bullets rode right up to the Heisenberg infantry. A swift volley from the infantry disproved their belief and they turned tail and routed.
Turn 9/Turn 10
The battle was now turning into a stalemate as both sides traded blows. However despite stand firm under intense fire the 2nd Battalion Von Skyler became shaken and started to withdraw. Seeing this the rest of their brigade also started to pull out.
As night started to fall it looked like it would be a minor victory for Kendrickstein as the controlled most of the battlefield.
Result – Minor Victory to Kendrickstein.
Casualties
Kendrickstein lost 4 batteries of Horse Artillery and the Guard Cuirassiers of which 2 batteries of artillery were permanently lost, the other 2 batteries and the Guard Cuirassiers were recovered.
Heisenberg lost 3rd battalion Von Skylar and the Walt lancers. Only the lancers were recovered.
Love it and thanks for sharing the rules Jim ;)
Good stuff :)
Would you mind PM'ing me the campaign rules you've done, as well? Always interested!

It's like Dallas with muskets!
Hi
Report of the battle of Hofstader,
After their initial success at Wolowitz's Farm the forces of Kendrickstein continued their pursuit of the Heisenberg army. In order to allow time to withdraw and regroup the Heisenberg High Command decided to deploy a rearguard at the strategic crossroads in the village of Hoffstedder to buy time for the rest of the army to regroup. To this end they deployed 2 brigades of infantry in and around the crossroad supported by a small cavalry brigade on their left flank. On seeing the enemy waiting for them the Kendrickstein troops grimly set about clearing the village and winning the day, it shouldn't take too long they thought......
Turn 1
The Kendrickstein army began with a general advance on both flanks. On the left flank 2 horse artillery batteries moved forward to the hills overlooking Hoffstedder.
The forces of Heisenberg held their positions in the village knowing that if it came down to it they would have a defensive advantage. The Heisenberg cavalry were then order out onto their left flank. It was hoped that by threatening the Kendrickstein right they might break up the attack.
Turn 2
The Kendrickstein troops continue a slow advance. On their right flank they deployed two units of light infantry into skirmish formation and began trading shots with their opposite numbers in the Heisenberg army. Initially they proved very successful and the Heisenberg infantry began to falter. It was the that General (insert name)began to ride backwards and forwards among his troops extolling them to hold the line. His bravery (some would say stupidity) did the trick and the line held.
Turn 3/Turn 4
The Kendrickstein horse artillery finally deployed on the hills and immediately began dropping round after round onto the Heisenberg infantry lined up neatly in front of them. The 1st Battalion Von Skylar stood resolutely despite the mounting casualties. To counter the artillery a unit of jaegers moved out of cover in a wood to snipe at the gunners.
On the Heisenberg left flank their cavalry began to deploy, although to many it appeared to be just poncing about as didn't look as if it felt it could beat the single battalion of infantry facing it. This was compounded when a single Kendrickstein lancer unit joined the infantry as flank guards.
Turn 5/Turn 6
While the Heisenberg jaegers continued to shoot at the horse artillery, the failed to notice the Kendrickstein cuirassiers moving around the flank. In an attempt take the fight to the enemy two battalions of Heisenberg infantry formed up and advanced out of the village and towards the Kendrickstein centre.
Turn 7
The persistent shelling of the 1ST battalion Von Skylar finally paid off. The battalion was seriously shaken and their morale began to crumble. Brigade commander (insert name) rushed to rally the battalion. Despite his protestations the unit began to waver. Seeing the urgency of keeping the flank secure the army commander (insert name) rushed to rally the Von Skylar battalion. However this was when it all went wrong for the forces of Heisenberg. The intense artillery fire finally broke the morale of the 1st battalion and they routed, this was compounded by a rather well placed artillery round which killed both the Brigade commander and the Amy Commander. The Kendrickstein Cuirassiers the chose this moment to smash into the jaegers on the right flank. The jaegers put a token resistance but withdrew from the fight. The cuirassiers chose not to pursue the jaegers choosing instead to plough into the flank of the 2Nd battalion Von Skylar who promptly turned and ran.
Turn 8/9/10
As the battle lurched to a conclusion the Kendrickstein forces began to surround the village of Hoffstedder. The mass of Heisenberg troops in the village held under intense fire. Their left flan however finally gave way as their light infantry finally broke and ran taking the injured brigade commander with them.
The Heisenberg cavalry finally reacted to calls of cowardice against them and launched themselves at the Kendrickstein lancers. After a close fight the Kendrickstein lancers were forced back and finally routed.
As night began to fall the fighting began to lull. The Kendrickstein forces had expected a quick and easy victory but the village was still in enemy hands and the troops were exhausted. A general withdrawal was sounded and the Kendrickstein forces retired to regroup. Having done what was required of the surviving Heisenberg forces withdrew and rejoined their own force.
Result – Draw
Casualties
Kendrickstein - 1 Unit of Lancers (lost)
1 Battalion of skirmisher (lost)
Heisenberg - 1ST Battalion Von Skylar (lost)
2ND Battalion Von Skylar (recovered)
1 Battalion of Jaegers (recovered)
Brigade Commander (Lost) replacement command level 7
Army Commander (lost) replacement command level 7
The uhlan officer wiped his sword clean of blood and smiled. The Kendrickstein lancers hadn't put up much of a fight, the were already routing away from a battle when they had ran into his small scouting force. Von Hentzau mounted his horse and rejoined his men, he was pleased with their performance, a few minor wounds and no dead, but he knew it wouldn't be as easy next time. His column crested a hill and he paused and looked at the scene before him. Column after column of infantry marched forward with cavalry covering the flanks. Blue and white flags fluttered in the breeze and Von Hentzau smiled ruefully as he surveyed the army of Bayern. No one knew the army was here, the forces of Kendrickstein were about to get a very unpleasant surprise.
Somewhat feel Heisenberg got a little lucky there :-\
Are you certain? :-\
Great report btw! :D
Hi
Pitched battle next sunday.
Bayern vs Kendrickstein.
Heisenburg sits this one out.The campaign is shaping up nicely.
Jim
Could I also ask for the campaign rules please :-[
Also what size armies are you using? Are they painted as 'Imagi nations'?
Hi
Send me your e-mail address in a personal message.
We have about 21 units per side excluding artillery.
The Bayern player has franco prussian bavarians (painted as so)
I`m the Hiesenburg player using crimean war russians
and the Kendrickstein player has a mixture of 1870 prussians mixed with 1860 canadians painted how he liked.

Hi
Battle of Sheldonberg
Battle Type – Pitched Battle
Turn 1
In an attempt to give themselves a secure defensive position the army of Kendrickstein immediately advanced towards the town of Sheldonberg and the surrounding walled fields. In fairly swift order the Kendrickstein infantry occupied the town and settled in for a hard slog.
Across the battlefield Crown Prince Karl Franz, Commander of the Bayern army observed the enemy and made changes to his initial battleplan. After brief discussions with the assembled brigade commanders dispositions were confirmed and the brigade commanders returned to their men eager to get at the enemy. The army of Bayern formed up and began a slow purposeful advance , a screen of skirmishers followed by columns of infantry.
Turn 2
As the main body of the Kendrickstein army held its ground, the Kendrickstein dragoons on their right flank advanced towards the Bayern 1st brigade . General Von Hern commander of the 1st brigade hesitated at this threat and the 1st brigades advance faltered.
On the Bayern right General Von Weed led his cavalry forward towards Sheldonberg. His orders had been straight forward protect the flank and ensure nothing got passed him.
Turn 3/Turn 4
The army of Kendrickstein continued its policy of sit and wait. It was then that the opened fire with a new weapon – Rockets. The relative quiet was shattered by the scream of the rockets hurtling towards the Bayern columns. The 6th battalion Von Kleist was the unfortunate recipient of the missiles. Fortunately the Kendrickstein rockets seemed more suited for fireworks displays than battle and apart from a little disorder did little damage.
Prince Karl Franz decided that the 1st brigade needed to get a move on. He hurriedly scribbled orders to several battalions and sent messengers galloping forward. He was pleased to see a speedy response to his orders as the 1st Jaeger battalion advanced through some walled fields and began to fire on the Kendrickstein cavalry to their front. The remainder of the 1st brigade formed lines and began to advance. As soon as they came into musketry range they began to pour fire into the Kendrickstein cavalry.
Turn 5/Turn 6/Turn 7
As the Bayern army continued its relentless advance they began to inflict more and more casualties on the Kendrickestein troops opposing them. Concentrated fire saw one battalion of Kendrickstein light infantry rout, and in a rather one side artillery duel 2 batteries of Bayern foot artillery destroyed a battery of Kendrickstein horse artillery and badly damaged another.
On the Bayern left flank General Becker seeing an opportunity to get to grips with the enemy ordered his cavalry to attack the by now shaken Kendrickstein dragoons. A brutal melee ensued and despite being greatly outnumbered the dragoons managed a fighting withdrawal. Unfortunately the Bayern cavalry pursued and then routed the dragoons.
The artillery duel continued with the Kendrickstein horse artillery finally routing rather than dying .
Turn 8
As the Kendrickstein dragoons routed , they were joined by a nearby light battalion and the rocket battery both of whom had been subjected to continuous fire from the Bayern forces. Seeing several units running seemed to an adverse effect on the Kendrickstein general. Despite have most of his troops still fresh and unengaged panic set in and orders to withdraw were hurriedly sent to the troops in and around Sheldonburg.
Turn 9/10
As the Kendrickstein forces began to stream towards their rear the Bayern forces began a rapid advance to try and cut off the escaping Kendrickstein army. Unfortunately for the Bayern troops the Kendrickstein army had too much of a head start and Prince Karl decided to occupy Sheldonberg rather than pursue any further.
Result – Major Bayern Victory
Casualties
Kendrickstein – 2 Batteries of Horse Artillery one of which was recovered the other destroyed
1 Rocket battery destroyed
1 Skirmisher battalion and Dragoon unit routed but both were late recovered.
Bayern - No losses suffered
Latest report.
Someone got utterly thumped :D
Very good report.
Business like and to the point with enough juicy description to make one feel one was reading a C19th edition of the Times or London Illustrated Gazette. Bravo.

Hi
Bob writes the reports he has a talent for this sort of thing.
Easter truce then another battle Heisenburg caught napping again with Kendrickstein launching a flanking attack.
jim
Sounds like a fun game :)
For one side anyway ;)
Hi
To be fair Colin( mr Kendrickstein) has fought more battles than anyone else and wants to conserve his forces as he has another battle to fight.
The Bayern player has only fought one so still has a complete army.
The beauty of a campaign is you get to fight some strange battles ones you wouldn`t dream of doing in a one off game.
Last weeks battle had to be seen to be beliveved.
Seeing the Kendrickstein army running away like girls was something to behold.

Campaigns are good like that :) I'm enjoying following yours.
If you like to behold "running away like girls" you might find this interesting
Well then, if they were running like girls they must have been going at a fair clip!
Or were they wearing high heels?

Hi
Last weeks battle report.
Battle of Helberg Fields
Battle Type – Flank Attack
After his dismal performance against the army of Bayern, the Commander of the Kendrickstein army, General Von Klump decided he needed a quick victory to restore his prestige in the eyes of Empress Tatiana. His scouts had brought him news of Heisenberg forces moving towards the Helberg Fields, an area of fertile farmland to the south of his position. Von Klump decided to send part of his force on a flanking march while the remainder engaged the Heisenberg army head on.
Meanwhile to the south the new commander of the Heisenberg army General Von Saul made his plans to occupy the Helberg Fields. The supplies he could capture would serve his army in good stead. His musing were interrupted when an aide brought news of the advancing Kendrickstein forces.
Turn 1/Turn 2
As the battle commenced the Heisenberg infantry rapidly moved to occupy the hedge boundaries that lined the field around Helberg. While his right flank followed orders to the letter, General Von Saul's orders to his left flank became a little garbled which resulted in the 3rd brigade turning round and marching away from the enemy.
The Kendrickstein army meanwhile had marched rapidly forward deploying from column to line as they approached Helberg. On their left the Kendrickstein cavalry got to close to the Heisenberg infantry and were used as target practice although the firing disrupted more than injured.
Turn 3
By now General Von Saul had managed to get his 3rd brigade turned round and heading back into the fight. As they marched several men were heard to comment whether this new general new his arse form his elbow, and did he really know what he was doing.
General Von Klump saw his troops seemed to be doing well and decided to send the thrust of his attack to the Heisenberg left flank. He saw this a his best option as he knew that his flanking troops would arrive behind the Heisenberg left,
Turn 4
In the centre of the battle a ferocious firefight had begun. Both sides fired volley after volley into each other hoping the other was buckle first. While several Heisenberg unit were shaken it was the Kendrickstein Mackem battalion that was forced back in disarray.
Turn 5
Kendrickstein pressure on the Heisenberg left finally paid dividends as General Von Saul sent rushed order to the brigade commanders which resulted in 2 of his battalions pulling back leaving a gap the Kendrickstein units tried to exploit.
Turn 6
The firefight around Helberg continued apace and the pressure finally told on the Heisenberg 3Rd Fring battalion which finally routed taking the brigade commander with it as he tried to rally them.
At this point the Heisenberg cavalry position behind the village charged through the village and smashed into the Kendrickstein 2nd Jaegers. In a one sided fight the Jaegers routed and the cavalry retired back through Helberg to regroup.
Turn 7
General Von Klumps flanking force finally arrived and heading straight for the Heisenberg flank. This combined with several volleys caused the Heisenberg 1st Draxlar regiment to rout.
Turn 8/Turn 9/Turn 10
Despite the increased pressure from the Kendrickstein forces the Heisenberg units were holding their own. General Von Klump decided to throw in his cavalry. In an act of rash bravery a unit of heavies charged straight towards two batteries of artillery. The speed of the cavalry overwhelmed the artillery who despite a last minute salvo failed to stop the attack. The cavalry smashed through both batteries routing them and continued into a supporting infantry battalion. The heroic charge came to a grinding halt as the infantry stood firm and routed the cavalry. General Von Klump had also thrown in his Guard Cuirassiers. They had charged a unit of Jaegers defending a hedgerow. The overconfident Cuirassiers soon realised the hedge was more of an obstacle than they had thought. The Jaegers held their position and after a quick volley routed the Cuirassiers.
General Von Klump looked on horrified as his cavalry broke and ran, it then got worse as his infantry began to withdraw in the face of renewed Heisenberg pressure.
Final Result – Heisenberg Victory
Casualties
Kendrickstein
Guard Cuirassiers – Lost
1 x Heavy Cavalry Unit – Recovered
1 x Heavy Cavalry Unit – Lost
2nd Jaegers – Lost
Heisenberg
3rd Battalion Fring – Lost

Hi
First battle between Heisenburg and Bayern tomorrow.
Should be fun both states spoiling for a fight.
Jim
Hi
Last weeks battle, sob :'( :'( :'
(Battle of the Rostenkowski Crossroads
The Rostenkowski Crossroads were a major hub in the road network of Andovia. Crown Prince Karl of Bayern decided that this would be his next major objective. By controlling the road network and river crossings in the area Bayern would gain a massive strategic advantage over the forces of Kendrickstein and Heisenberg. As the Bayern army moved towards the main crossroads word reached Karl that a Heisenberg force was already advancing to meet him. Prince Karl had little to worry him, his force outnumbered the Heisenbergers and he was supremely confident in his troops abilities.
Turn 1
Prince Karl sent his 2nd Infantry brigade to cross at the left hand ford supported by the 4th cavalry brigade to threaten the Heisenberg infantry facing them. The Bayern 5th cavalry brigade was sent on a wide sweeping move to capture the northern most of the bridges. The 3rd Bayern Infantry brigade would follow them. To capture the main crossroads, Karl sent his 1st brigade straight up the main road.
As the Bayern columns moved forward with a grim determination, General Von Saul began to scribble down his orders and get his troops moving. On his left he sent two units of cavalry to stop the Bayern cavalry. Several infantry battalion moved towards the crossroads ready to hold back the Bayern hordes. It was then however that Sauls plans went to hell in a hand basket. A complete misinterpretation of their orders saw the entire Guards brigade turn around and double time off the battlefield. In one fell swoop a quarter of the Heisenberg army was out of the fight.
Turn 2,3
The Bayern 4th cavalry brigade having found an alternative crossing point, crossed the river and formed two lines ready to attack the Heisenberg infantry. The 2nd brigade moved rapidly in columns across the ford and deployed into supported lines.
The Bayern 1st brigade moved forward and formed lines and began to trade fire with the Heisenberg infantry at the crossroads. As they deployed in line the Bayern 5th Infantry battalion were attacked by Heisenberg cavalry. After a determined defence the cavalry was repulsed much to General Von Sauls disgust.
Turn 4
The Bayern 5th cavalry began to cross by the bridge, ready to attack the Heisenberg cavalry facing them. The 3rd infantry brigade had managed to find a shallow part of the river and crossed and formed lines facing the Heisenberg cavalry. A well timed volley from the Bayern infantry devastated the Heisenberg Walt Lancers who routed from the battlefield.
Turn 5
The Heisenberg 2nd Draxlar battalion charge into the Bayern 2nd Jaegers, the jaegers being deployed in a skirmish line proved unable to stop the determined Heisenberg troops, who having routed the jaegers ploughed into the Bayern Bielefeld battalion. This fresh battalion proved to be made of sterner stuff and stopped the Heisenberg assault dead forcing them to retire badly shaken. At the northern crossing the Pinkman lancers charged the Von Hentzau lancers in an attempt to push the Bayern forces back across the bridge. The Von Hentzau lancers counter charged and smashed through the Pinkman lancers routing them.
Turn 6, 7
The Bayern 1st brigade began to pour fire into the Heisenberg units defending the crossroads. The Heisenberg units began to waver and pull back. The Bayern 3rd brigade began to turn and threaten the Heisenberg flank, enfilading the Heisenberg positions. As a result the 2nd Draxlar battalion routed, closely followed by the 3rd Draxlar.
Turn 8, 9, 10
The entire Bayern line surged forward in pursuit of the now rapidly withdrawing Heisenberg forces, volley after volley hammered into the Heisenberg units causing the Heisenberg 3rd and 4th jaegers to rout
Crown Prince Karl rode forward with his command staff and surveyed the battlefield. It was a great victory, for relatively minor losses he had smashed the Heisenberg army and gained control of the strategic objective. His attention was drawn to a line of bedraggled Heisenberg prisoners being led to the rear by and escort of Uhlan lancers. The Uhlan commander Von Hentzau trotted over to the Prince a beaming smile on his face. A great victory highness he said and we managed to bring you some rather nice tapestries. Prince Karl looked confused until Von Hentzau unfurled the battalion colours of several Heisenberg units
Result – Major Bayern Victory
Casualties

2nd Jaegers – Lost
Heisenberg
1st Draxlar – Lost
2nd Draxlar – Lost
