Over at this thread http://www.pendrakenforum.co.uk/index.php/topic,11219.150.html (http://www.pendrakenforum.co.uk/index.php/topic,11219.150.html) the topic turned to the rarity of the FLGS.
Are friendly local game stores really rare?
Could we get a list of them together here?
:D
In Edinburgh we have:
Black Lion Games ( www.black-lion.co.uk/ (http://www.black-lion.co.uk/) )
Sixes To Hit ( www.6s2hit.com/ (http://www.6s2hit.com/) )
Wonderland ( https://www.wonderlandmodels.com/ (https://www.wonderlandmodels.com/) )
Being thick I know but FLGS? :-\
Friendly Local Gaming Store
In Liverpool, no.

Friendly Local Gaming Store
I thank you :)
Gifts for Geeks: Leicester
Nothing in Shetland...
A couple I can think of in Glasgow
A1 games... Sells all sorts... The other one just around the corner... Hardly ever get into it as my trips south always seem to be on his day off.
Alsso: Castle View Miniatures, Fazely (nr Tamworth).
Antics in Bristol.
Used to have one here in Maidstone up until about 6 months ago but then it closed down...now I'm left with GW or Modelworld; neither of which sell Vallejo paints!
Nothing in Stoke. 😥

Antics is a modelling store.
There's Excelsior, next to the hardcore version of Ann Summers.
There's also been a couple of others, but they never seem to last long. One in Old Market, one in Hotwells, but I think they've both closed now.
Cheers, Martyn

I have no idea how close they are either :-/
But they certainly are friendly, a number of us use to get our 6mm H&R through them and always had great service :) :) :)
Beanie games in Stockton on Tees
Stafford Games is near Stoke too I believe...

True that Antics is a model store, but they have plenty of wargames figures, scenery etc so that's why I included it. I belive the Hotwells one has closed and the Old Market one certainly has. Don't know of Excelsior, so will try and check them out.
Spirit Games and Stafford Games both close, but do nothing from a war games standpoint that makes the admittedly short trip worthwhile

Paint?
In Harlow (Essex) Marquee Models www.mmodels.co.uk/ Usually run games (40K mainly) Saturday mornings.
Good stuff chaps, keep them coming!
If i could i'd consolidate them into a list in the OP.

Yes, I can get paint in Stoke but that's about it. I could also get 28mm plastics but they are not my interest. Shops here are plastic model shops and have no interest for me in that regard

Not a FLGS as such, but Hattons, near Penny Lane in Liverpool, is brilliant for Vallejo paints, flocks, Woodland Scenics, buildings etc, etc. It's an internationally recognised model railway shop with a very friendly and knowledgeable staff who are only too willing to help out a wargamer.
Firestorm games in Cardiff. In Trade Street opposite the Brains Brewery.
http://www.firestormgames.co.uk/
It is freaking huge - they host the Cardiff club and have about 30 tables! They've just moved into a unit formerly a furniture showroom (imagine a DFS style thingie)
Swansea has a small shop, but while I might be able to find it, I can't tell you anything about it.
Dead Universe Comics in Aylesbury is about to move to Bourbon St into the parcel place that folded in December - a dice throw from the Games Workshop (who have always been very helpful to me)

See, this
IS a serious forum; we provide a service too :D
If only there was some place we could collate questions that were frequently asked...
There's a new place in MK I've just remembered, but not remembered enough to recall its name.
Wargames Warehouse in MK , near Kingston Tescos.
If there is another, let me know! :D
Are the any FLGS's left in the London area (inside the M 25)? Going to be in for a couple of days in June.
Already got visits to PM (If OK with Leon) and Spiritgames penciled into the travel plan as well as days out at Duxford and Bovington lined up 8)
London - FRIENDLY. :d :d
There is the Wargames Store in Brimstage local to me...

It seems that FLGS are not as rare as hens' teeth then.
Orcs Nest
Role n'Play in Wilves is still going, though last time I spoke to them they did most business on line.
Waylands Forge in Birmingham recently moved to the Custard Factory and is great :)
The Games Shop in Aldershot used to have wargaming stuff but it's now mainly odds and ends from ages ago and their focus is more on Lego and things.

I remember playing the GW Lord of the Rings Miniatures wargame there when I was about 13/14. I remember the battle being stacked points wise heavily against me, and my elves for predictably crushed. Used to love that shop though, used to just spend time looking at all the stuff they had available on the walls and on display.
Esdevium Games? That's sad to hear.
Esdevium still look to be in business from their website, possible it's all clicks and no bricks, of course.
Esdevium Games; used to drool over their massive adverts in White Dwarf deciding what to save up for next. Happy days :)
Esdevium Games was a shining light in the concrete jungle that is Aldershot
I can't remember any of the names, but when I was on a brief visit to Worcester last year I was amazed to find three shops all selling board games. :o
One was a dedicated games shop, one was at the back of a minimart type place (a bit bizarre but a reasonable stock of games) and the nearby toy shop had a huge board game section.

Just realised I haven't been down there for a couple of years! :o
Esdevium sold the shop to one of their managers a couple of years ago. It's now called The Games Shop and has a sister shop called The Little Games Shop in Farnham IIRC.
Where before they used to get everything on Esdevium's new release list, when the shop was sold the new owner had to move onto a more commercialy viable business model, hence the shift to more of a toy store business. The amount of dead stock he had to shift was phenomenal - shelves of old RPG and board games...
They've also got an interest in supporting children with disabilities and special educational needs, so stock toys for this market and run groups in their games rooms, etc.
I believe they still host clubs in their games rooms as well as hosting Magic, GW, etc events.
So, still friendly last time I was there, just not so games-y as they used to be :)
Esdevium, meanwhile, continue to be the main UK importer and wholesaler of games, just no direct bricks-and-mortar presence any more :(
Cheers from Camberley!

Think it's been gone a lot longer than that. Shame as I liked popping in there from time to time.
Now I use Rochester games not as local but very friendly and much wider selection of stuff.
