Title: Bigger WWI trench mortars
Post by: rct75001 on 06 February 2015, 11:27:40 PM
Hi all - very new to this and getting quite excited putting an order together now that I have gotten my hands on GWSH2.

I am looking at the lists for a British Division and they have a range of trench mortars.  I can see the 3" ones in the list - but I was wondering what people use for the larger 6" and 9.45" ones?

Thanks

Richard

Hi Richard

Good choice of rules and figures.

For the 6" mortars I got some from the WWII ranges - either the U.S. Marines or the the Soviet ones, I'll have to check. But basically this mortar was just a long tube, the tripod was quite basic.

The 9.45" flying pig, I think is the same as the French one.

Leon is very good and will do separate crews. But you may well want some artillery crews, rather than the toffee apple crew, as the periscope guy it a bit hard to use.

More interesting are the heavy german minenwerfers- I have some brass tube to attempt to make these, but haven't made much (any!) progress yet.

I'm pretty sure that the British Flying Pig was the same as the French one so I'd check that out, unfortunately the french mortar doesn't have a picture on the website.

When I started WW1 in 10mm there were no big Mortars so I scratch built one
