Can we find another way to shorten Dour Puritan than" DP" !!!. For those most of us in the forum with minds that have not made the heady hieghts of the sewer , It reminds me of something that is a long way from being Puritan. :d :d
I like yours, JAFO.
I'll happily go with that as soon as Leon lets me know what my password is so I can change my profile. When he sends me the click on link thing through my email nothing happens when I click which is why I can't order directly from the site but have to send emails. Hate passwords cos I usually forget them.
Don't Panic sounds a good alternative 😁
JAFO - "Blue Thunder" memories anyone?
DP -"Disruptive Pattern" surely?

So...Are we going to call him Arthur Dent or Ford Prefect ? :-\
Cheers - Phil
Rather fancied Leman myself as a tribute to a Belgian general, but can't change my profile because I have no way of recalling my password.
Sorry I meant just a different way to shorten his name - To perhaps just Dour or Puritan, its the use of his initials as DP that makes my sewer of a mind chuckle :)
..... Do P ...... Dr P ........ Dr Pu ........ Dr Pian (using the "i" before "a" school of spelling) .....
Don't bother WM, it's done and dusted.

.... aaaah! get it now!
[Question: see Intro section]
So how come this new boy has come straight in as a Major General ? :D ;)
Cheers - Confused (as usual) of Wales.
You do realise, Mr so-called Leman, that I have begun writing the 2015 Pendraken Panto, and have now got to rewrite the first three scenes in which FSN meets a miserable roundhead? Not only that, but all the "ban Christmas" jokes will have to go?
And the songs will all need new lyrics. :(
But with his name now Leman, you can start using all your Russ Abbott jokes
You could use Baldrick's poem and apply it to Liege.
From grumpy god-botherer to secret sweetheart .... ah, the power of love! :)
Oh lawks! What have I done?
Indeed, what have you done, my fine fellow.......

Yes, its a funny old one that. Now, I am only a humble old Second Lieutenant and (compared to you guys) a part-time wargamer (shockarooney - but it had to be said) .... but lets look at two other famous name changing incidents and their effects on military rank.
On the one hand, there is the example of T E Lawrence. He was a colonel when he first left the Army but when he later re-joined the Royal Armoured Corps under a new name (T E Shaw), he enlisted as a private. On that basis, one might argue that good ole DP
aka now known as Leman should re-enlist as a Cadet (not me arguing that,
DP Leman, crawl, crawl, .. sir ...).
On the other hand, take Arthur Wesley. He changed his name to Wellesley and then later became known as Wellington. As he did not suffer any demotion in rank when he changed name, one could argue that good ole Leman should therefore retain his exalted rank with honour (especially when one considers the purchase system - no, not the 18/19th century officer commission purchase system - the
Pendraken one, of course).
Which he has. And so, a precedent has been set - which in Leman's case is quite ironic. Why? Well, bearing in mind Orcs' original reasons for seeking a new name, its ironic that the example of a
Peer of the realm appears to have won the day! (boom, boom!)(who groaned?). So, what new names are we all going to have now ?
[stage right .......
howls of anguish are heard from fsn]
.... I'm considering Dondi ......... Dondi Aygo (aka Zorro). :)
Leman St in London is named for an archaic word for prostitute.
I never thought I would be able to use that bit of information.

A Turkish adult comic.
Apropos nothing, am I the only one who finds oneself singing "Whiter Shade of Pale" every time I hear the name "Boko Haram"?
Bet Techno does. he's an old hippy.
;D ;D ;D

You are going to get
such a slap, Nobby ! ;D ;D ;D ;D
But it's not
that particular track I think of.
If I put down what it was, there are
certain members of the forum that would make smutty remarks because of the second word. :P

Oh dear, is Dour Puritan now one of the Bishop of Winchester's Geese (http://thetemplarknight.com/2012/09/09/the-winchester-geese-medieval-prostitution/)?

Leman is a sweetheart or lover, too, not just a hired embracer.

So you and a very good mate could go to Leman Street to hire a prostitute for a DP!!
Having just Googled the name I find that it can mean, amongst other things, a Turkish adult comic, a former French département under the First Empire, a Dublin-based rock band and an archaic name for a man's unmarried mistress. Are you sure about this, DP?
Given the spelling on this forum, it could also be a citrus fruit, a suicidal mammal, the epithet characteristically applied to the towers in Suzhou, Dehli, and especially Pisa, a seaside resort town famed for Louisa Musgrove's ill-timed leap, and a Scottish loch celebrated in Burns' lyrics.
well I'm sticking with General Leman.
Yep, but you.re Major General. I liked the Dour Puritan name its a shame its going. We need some sort of service. . .
Still available elsewhere on the net.
Makes it very confusing......

International man of mystery..
Talking of mysteries, how do you / we pronounce, "Leman?" :-/
Good question; I'm assuming it's French sounding as it doesn't look particularly Flemish. but you can call me Bob.
Cheers Bob
That'd be Bob Bobson, then ? ;)
Cheers - Phil
Bob Leman. Boble man?
As in nobleman, otherwise we're going to need another B ( to misquote Jaws).
Leman's a good name.
Uh...
Wait...http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Leman_Russ_(primarch) (http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Leman_Russ_(primarch))

Names are just names though DP Leman. We know its still you under the skin. :D
Well I chose it as a real historical character of military significance that also chimes with the centenary.
Cheers Bob
You'll always be BWG to me now DP Leman :)
