Title: New Top 10 Requests for 2015!
Post by: Leon on 19 January 2015, 03:17:34 AM
With the New Year comes a new list, as we've updated our votes lists and put together a new Top 10 Requests!

Top 10 Ranges:

1.   Indian Mutiny
2.   1920's/1930's Gangsters
3.   Yom Kippur
4.   Modern Infantry
5.   War of 1812
6.   Aztecs
7.   1860 Italian revamp
8.   Boxer Rebellion
9.   Fantasy Bears
10. Korean War - NEW ENTRY!

There are only a couple of changes on the Ranges lists, with the Picts now at Pendraken HQ ready for moulding.  Moving into the Top 10 to replace them is the Korean War range, one which we are asked about regularly and something we'd like to get done sooner rather than later.  Elsewhere in the list, we've combined the various Modern UK / US / Russian / etc requests into a blanket 'Modern Infantry' entry instead.  Similarly, the various 1850's/1860's Italian requests have been combined into an '1860 Italian Revamp' entry.  This range is the oldest of the late 19th ranges so it's due for some work at some stage.

And, Top 10 Items:

1.   Werewolves
2.   WWII Italian Artillery
3.   1870's Marching Band - NEW ENTRY!
4.   AWI Wagons/Carts
5.   SYW Ottoman's
6.   WWII British tank crews / officers / drinking tea!
7.   T-35
8.   WWII Russian 37mm AA
9.   Vietnam Radio Op's
10. WWII Personalities

There are some positive changes on this list, with the Commando's, the Dark Age civilians and the French High Command all done and ready to go here at Pendraken HQ.  This brings in some new entries to take their place, including the reappearance of the Vietnam Radio Op's and the WWII Personalities, along with the highest new entry being the 1870's Marching Band!

If anyone would like to compare these new lists to the previous Top 10, it can be found here: http://www.pendrakenforum.co.uk/index.php/topic,10212.0.html (http://www.pendrakenforum.co.uk/index.php/topic,10212.0.html)

We hope everyone's happy to see continued progress on these requests, and we'll keep plugging away to get them sculpted and available asap!

:D

I think FK has been putting multiple votes in to get the Aztecs to No 6

Wasn't the Russian 37mm a copy of the Bofors one- surely in 10mm thay are almost identical.

A few point of order Mr Chairman?

Please could you explain how "Fantasy Bears" are a range, and "werewolves" merely Items? Surely that shows an intolerable pro-ursine, anti-lupine bias? And please don't tell me that werewolves would be just a single figure. There are many kinds of werewolf (from the Chaney to the Cullen) and they have a number of different attributes which could be modelled by someone with the exquisite skills and many arms of our Techno.

Secondly, could you explain the voting system? I don't recall any calls for Indian Mutiny figures this year, yet the numerous and repeated requests for chariot armies (and Byzantines and Superheroes) have been blatantly ignored.

Actually, I've just realised there are Centurions on the horizon, so I don't really care.  :P

the highest new entry being the 1870's Marching Band!

Only for 1870?

The Russo-Japanese War is crying out for a Marching band - at the very least a Russian one - as there are a couple of instances of Russian bands marching into action especially during the Liaoyang campaign

Also a Mariachi band would be useful for the Mexican Revolution range

While I do not want to be seen agreeing with Nobby, He is actually correct in his observations. :-[ :-[

I accept Nobbys' observation of the lack of requests for Indian Mutiny as he spends his entire life (apart from frequent visits to the bathroom with laminated vanguards) on this forum so he should know.  :)

I would also like to know how the voting system works.  Particuarly as I think that we need a method to withdraw votes, as we may no longer want something we requested as out interests change or we aquire said model from another source ( Heretical I know).

On the topic of bands, what about the dog-pulled bass drum used by the Austrians in 1866?

Werewolves would be a few sculpts, maybe 3 or 4 in a single pack, so those count as an Item.  The Bears would be a larger project of 3 poses, each in 3 levels of armoured-ness, so they count as more of a Range.  It's a close one, and I think the bears started life being on the Items list before we moved them over.

All the votes placed on the Forum, by email, over the phone or at the shows are collated on my lists here.  The votes are cumulative, so the Indian Mutiny is still top as it's picked up the most votes over the past 4-5 years.  The Byzantines have picked up some votes and were close to breaking into the Top 10, bt didn't quite make it.

Don't mess your sheets, Leon!

My vote would go for a generic range of supply train figures: wagons, carts, hand carts, carriages and drivers, livestock and handlers, barrels, boxes and guys carrying them, pontoons and pontooniers, lumber and lumber jacks, medics, surgeons, stretcher bearers, cantinieres, and... dogs. And tables and chairs for outdoor map reading and...

By 'generic' I mean, of course, with a strong Napoleonic bias.  ;D

The obvious solution to requests for bandsmen, supply train crews and Aztecs is to have multi-pose figures

Separate hats, heads, torsos, legs, arms, weapons, instruments, tools and baggage

If it can be done in 28mm then should be no problem in 10mm

What's all this nonsense about marching bands and camp followers? Can they storm Badajoz? No! Can they force the Suez Canal? No! Can they hold Masada? No! Let's focus on the teeth arms and get them sorted before we start monkeying about with irrelevancies. Even the Aztecs deserve priority over baggage wagons.  >:(

As usual, I shall have to be the voice of reason in this. I seem to fall between the two camps anyway.

I would humbly suggest that your baggage train (camp followers etc) have their uses. One of my favourite scenarios is to have a unit guard a backwater bridge and direct traffic over it. At some point the enemy is going to intervene and there are literally hours of fun as the nervous guards wonder if the oncoming vehicle is a friendly Panther or an accursed Ami M10. This scenario works well if the bridge gets clogged with supply waggons or ambulances or some such. They also make excellent objectives/distractions for marauding Hunnic cavalry or as a resupply for the beleaguered castle.  Was it Hougamont that was saved by some daft sod trundling an ammo waggon through half the French army?

So, I can see the point of baggage waggons, and ditto camp followers & pontoons.  By extension, I can also see the point of other encampment accessories, though they are not to my taste. I do draw the line at a marching band. Smacks of "toy soldiers" to me.

I think there are enough rulesets out there that have baggage camps etc as part of the army lists so something to make them more fun and nice to look at rather than the usual tent just plonked down would be nice

I thought a war GAME was all about toy soldiers. Certainly don't want the real thing clumping through my house. If I'd wanted the real thing I'd have joined the army, but as the old ditty says - I don't want a bayonet up my a*******, I don't want my b******** shot away. give me toy soldiers any day of the week.

Seconded. Plus you could have werewolves in chainmail with shields and a mixture of swords and spears, which could double as gnolls.
