Title: Weather
Post by: Fenton on 14 January 2015, 10:46:30 AM
Hopefully everyone suffering some bad weather is ok

I read on the BBC site there had been tornados in Pembrokeshire but I put that down to Techno having his yearly curry

Stay safe everyone

Torrents of rain, interspersed with bright sunshine. Can't seem to make up its mind.  :-\

Snow, sleet, hail and a thunderstorm yesterday/last night. :-SS X_X
Just a dusting of snow on the ground now.
'Mini tornado' was about 15 miles away.....Would have been closer to Mart, I reckon.

Not as much wind as there can be up here in the hills.....And that was after the curry. (Thank you Steve !  ;D ;D ;D)

We had 101mph winds on Shetland at the weekend so we had a hurricane  :D
now we are down to a mere force 8 with sleet and snow....

Lancaster crippled by terrible weather....

Actually there were a couple of very heavy hail showers in the night which laid down an inch or so of hail then a very light sprinkling of snow.

There are several steep roads where people abandoned cars, the result total chaos and gridlock this morning.  I come in through the country lanes and didn't know there were any problems until I got withn half a mile of work then stuck for 40 minutes!

It really wasn't bad but people just seemed to panic.

A couple of inches of slushy snow in the Dales, not too bad as most roads had been gritted..

We had a bit of rain, hail and lightning with no noticeable thunder last night...  :-\  We were up in Newcastle for the evening and when we got back everything was covered in a layer of fine snow/ice.

A light mist here this morning,  hopefully it will keep the temperature down in the low 20s this afternoon/evening  ;)

Hope all are surviving the northern winter

I am presuming all our Scandinavian and Canadian forum members are now laughing at us all for living in a country brought to a stand still with 2-4 inches of snow

I am quite fortunate living in the south eastern corner of England because we haven't had any troublesome weather at all. It's been a mite chilly and a tad breezy but that's about it. Fingers crossed.

Update: Just heard on the box that we are expecting strong winds maybe 50 -60mph, and up to 40mm of rain overnight.

I hope everyone who has had the nasty stuff is okay.

KEEP CALM AND CARRY ON WARGAMING!

. . . . but people just seemed to panic.

This. So very much this. Panic seems to be the default nowadays, not helped by the overly-manic weather forecasters we now get.

Raining for more than 24 hours at a time? Panic, panic, floods everywhere!

Not rained for a week? Drought conditions, stock up on bottled water and don't you dare wash the car or water your garden!

An inch of snow? Ahh, better not leave the house for three days! And I have to listen to endless stories about people's heroic four hour journeys to work.

Sun's out for more than an hour? Quick, cover up with hats & tee-shirts and slap on the sun screen!

What happened to just coping and getting on with it?

Cheers, Martyn

Moderators. I'd like to register a complaint.

Whilst I was crafting my response to friend Jerome, another forum member dived in and stole my joke. Now, I don't say that the dastard should be flogged (but then again, I don't say he shouldn't), but perhaps a formal reprimand and perhaps breaking to the ranks would be appropriate? I mean, it's just not done to purloin a fellow's joke. It's not as if I have that many.

It seems you and FSN agree on something  ;) ;D

Hi All

Saw on the morning news that there had been some storms and snow in the UK. Hope all are ok.

Not much hobby work happening here at the moment - too sticky, 32C and 75% humidity.

But at least there's no floods at the moment:-

Ooooh.....A webcam pic that changes here.....What fun !.....Didn't realize you could post those on the forum.
Thought it was just a single static screen grab when I saw it earlier.

Anyway.....Saw something that I've never seen before, this morning.
A 'hailbow'....
Well....That's what I'm claiming it was.
Didn't appear to be any rain coming down, at all...Just 'billions' of little hailstones....(Which got bigger rather quickly, and didn't half sting the top of my scalp.)
But there was a 'rainbow' in the middle to start with.

The sort of time you think....."B*gger....Why don't I carry a camera around all the time ?"
(Though trying to take a picture in that 'deluge' probably wouldn't have done the camera much good.)

Cheers - Phil

If only some electronics wizkids could invent a device that had a camera and telephonic device all in one handy box that you could carry in your pocket...I for one cant wait till the 25th Century to come around

My mobile phone's far too big to keep in a pocket.....And it doesn't have a camera.....Or connect to the intraweb.
It's my 'keep in the glove compartment, to phone the AA if the car breaks down', phone.......If the battery's not flat. :P
Mrs Techno's phone takes piccy's.....But they're cr*p.....And it takes ages to remember how to put the damn things on the PC.

As to weather here - cold, stiff breeze but sunny. Tuesday was wet though.
