Very nice looking game and an interesting battle report :)
Great looking figures, I assume they are 10mm :-bd =D> :-bd =D>
Good to see the campaign is motivating you to paint more troops ;)
Superb reports Steve.
Why did I not think of this during the doldrums of my non-gaming months... :-\ :D
Nice set up. Excellent set of rules as well.
Wow, you're troops and table look fantastic, really inspiring (if only I had more time!).
V/R,
Jack
That is a good looking game.
Thanks for the nice comments guys :). The figures are Pendraken, with the Welsh from the Late Roman range (superb sculpts by Clibinarium) and the Saxons from the Norse and Anglo-Saxon ranges. The games are quick to set up, with normally a maximum of three pieces of scenery on the table. As you can see, I add a bit more for eye candy purposes. The rules work well and are easily tweakable if required. Highly recommended.
Damn fine report and pics, Steve.
Cheers - Phil
Good looking game Steve. Must drag DB out again at some point - solo might be the way to go ;)
Very fun an easy to read, great pics.
go on with the campaing!
I like the way the play boundary has been marked. It might be wort Pendraken doing a couple of pre-packed Dux Bellorum armies for the shows.
Another great use for lolly sticks.
They're actually tongue depressors which are wider than lolly sticks. Very useful though with the rounded ends to create hedgerows etc at any angle required.
Splendid looking game there sir.
Dux Bellorum are a very good set of rules.
So good that i've put together some alternate period rules (WotR and AVBCW :o) on my blog.
I've not tried them yet (they're on my shelf) but Dan Mersey's Lion Rampant rules are also something i'll try and get to table this year.
For DuxB, i use 28mm figures, but these little fellows look jolly good too. Well done Steve J.
Good report and photos. Liked it. :-bd
Another cracking game, Steve - I really do need to add DB to my to-do list...again :(
Lovely looking game Steve :)
Agree with your comments about the ford; I try to place fords / bridges etc to the flanks (and use at least two) as they can tend to stagnate games.
Very nice, and the perfect rules:scale fit.

Will bear this in mind for future games :).

It just helps prevent the "meat grinder" you get with a single crossing. I don't use DB rules but since most rules seem to reward clever maneuvering, two bridges bring positioning back into play.
Another fun thing to do is run the river top to bottom rather than side to side and make both armies deploy a rough 50% of their forces on either side. The bridge then becomes pivotol in allowing reinforcements to pass over :)
Cracking looking game as always Steve :-bd
Definitely time to bring on the killer sheep! They can have great fun chasing the berserkers round the field :d
Once the painting competition's over I need to sort my dark elves to fight the fantasy Egyptians I'm entering and/or revisit my 2mm historical plans...
Cheers!

Now that's a good idea :)!
