After all the pontificating about Mongols that i do on the forum I thought it was about time I put up or shut up. On my blog I have posted a number of pics of the various scale armies that I have.
Have a look if you want to at:

So where are the opponents?
C'mon, admit it, you just looked at the pics, didn't you. At the bottom of the post it says I will post some pics of the opposition armies next time.
You can never have enough Mongols!!!
I have a 15mm army - all Museum Miniatures - which occasionally get an outing against themselves using a set of Colonial rules called Battles for Empire

Currently I am painting up a ton of Pendraken Mongols and trying to persuade 4Ground to make some 10mm Central Asian city walls and buildings
I would appreciate a peek at your rules
Alan
PM sent.
Just had a look at your blog. Nice figs; like the idea of wide open flanks but I've never heard of those rules before. Mind you there are probably more sets of rules than grains of sand in the Sahara that I've never heard of.
So you have Mongols in 6mm, 10mm, 15mm and 28mm, why not 40mm as well? :)
;D
You may mock, :) but if I had the space and the finances there is every chance that would happen. So when I win the Lottery...new house with large wargames room/study, holiday and 40mm Mongol army plus opposition army(ies). I might even learn to drive!
Should we add 54mm to the list too? ;)
Nah, that's a scale too far. But then again, Mongolian Wrestling Competitions in 54mm, hmmm. :) :)
Speaking of oppositions armies, could some of the mongols be used as Huns for my late Romans to fight against ?

Prettyclose i'd say.
:)
You're a brave man to say that in a Subedai thread ;) ;D
The Huns didn't have stirrup.
;(
In 10mm, who cares ?
;)
The unemployed stirrup makers of the greater Hunnic empire? :-\ ;D
The thing about steppe armies is that they wore whatever they could make and if they couldn't make it, they either stole or traded for it. I would say that we, as wargamers, have a preconceived idea of what specific types of nomadic warriors should look like and that they should be unique to that particular army, be it Mongol, Hunnic, Khazar or whatever. This is to my mind historical bo**ocks. They may have had an overall look but individually I would say that you could use any number of bow, spear or even lance armed nomadic types for variation in the same way that you could use a few Sassanids and Romans scattered about. (You might get a few strange looks if you tried to field a Sassy Clib in amongst your Hunnic LC figures though.) :)
Funny you should say that. I've just had a trawl through the web and the various illustrations depicting Huns show a variety of dress that in some cases probably owes more to the fevered imagination of the artist than historical fact.
For my Essex 15mm Hun army I bought a pack of figures from every conceivable range and mixed them and the horses up. All sorts in there and I think it looks great, will try to get some photos sorted.
Cheers
Ian
Looking forward to that, Ian !
Cheers - Phil.
And me! I like to see other people's take on the Mongols.

Great stuff, Mick. Not that I know a Khwariznian from a knot in a plank.

I would suggest a plank isn't such a good rider :)

I've met a few planks in my time...I prefer Khwarizmians. They were around not long before the end of the Ayyudbids and Abbasids. Think Persian and you are reasonably close.
My very old and tatty 15mm Huns do have some mongols as their heavy cavalry. Rest are huns - old minifigs(3 on a plank type) and Mikes Models.
IanS
PS - they usually win. :D

Actually Now I come to think of it...having done some re-enactment riding... I have met a number of planks who
are good riders... therefore I stand corrected
