We enjoyed this show a lot last year so will hopefully be able to attend again.
I used to be a regular when it was at the Alumwell school just off J10 M6 because it was quite easy to get to but then it moved to Wolvo and it was at least two buses and the tram to get there. Went once and that was it. Now it's too bl**din far.

Give my best regards to Alan G, Ian G, David G, Alun W, John G and Gordon C when you see them. Ta.

Steve - yeah, it's a nice show :) Wouldn't know on public transport - driving from Kingstanding is fine though, it's a simple M6 at Scott Arms, M54 and down the A449 at top end of wolves - 20mins unless the M6 is bad...
Will say hello for you to everyone at the club next week Subedai - John G co-drove my new 10mm Hittites this evening. Many Anatolian allies died to attrit some cheatin' no good Egyptian charioteers. Must remember to keep my plans much more simple. Getting two squadrons of chariots flank charged by Pharoah himself at the head of the Egyptian infantry (!) was not my finest hour ;)
Don't forget we'll need any pre-orders sending through before Sun 1st please!

thinking of going on Sunday, never been to a show before. Is it kid friendly (4 and 6) or am I better leaving the little folk at home?
It's often quite busy - big sports hall, with traders booths round the side and middle, with demo games in between, and lots of people wandering between them - but should be kid friendly so long as they don't mind crowds. There's usually plenty of people with pushchairs and wee ones of some description! That said, it's probably easier to leave them at home if you can, as that way you can really look at stuff and not be shepherding interested little fingers away from picking up books, figures, pots of paint, model kits, dice etc etc.
Although if you bring anything back it's a good excuse. I didn't know it was there dear, the kids must have bought it!

That'd be good, we could see Kublai in person... :D
Most shows are reasonably kid friendly, although if your 4 year old is anything like mine then he'll need some entertaining! We've got some things on the stand that we give away to the kids though.

Ok, I'll bring the Khan!
and if I have to bring the kids I'll bring the wife to chaperon them
(fingers crossed I should have the NVA/VC pics for you as well)

:-bd
Last year the weather was lovely and there is a large traffic free area at the front for kids to run around if they get bored.

Bu**er, I'm going to miss that. However, if ever you travel to a show in Kent let me know in advance.
Just back from Alumwell; lovely little show.
Some great demo games including Pixie's who, by his own admission, may have had far too many mechs on the board.
Also made my first 6mm WW2 purchase of a GHQ Panze Kampfgruppe. I didn't want to go down the GHQ route but the minis are too lovely :)
Picked up some books from Wild Geese Books (they share the stand with Pendraken) at excellent prices. Also some more Modern 28mm figures from Empress Minis, plus a couple of WS&S mags for a quid each. Some nice games on show but not too much to interest me this year, apart from a Great Northern War game in 28mm. Definitely will go next year as it's a nice size show, not too far away and only £3.00 to get in.

You will have at least 3 vehicles you cant use, and paid far too much. H&R and Scotia are just as good.

Thanks Norm. Unlike Gareth you had some consideration for the rest of us and took some pics 😉

Great review Norm.
Good review and agree with your comments. I forgot my camera at home so good to see that someone remembered :-[.

Probably right on the first couple of points.
However I disagree about the others being "just as good." I'd rate GHQ vehicles as being far better than the others but would say H&R infantry are far better than GHQ. Adler infantry look weird close up but look brilliant once painted and on the tabletop (IMHO) but seem too large next to GHQ vehicles for my taste.

No, pretty happy with the selection actually. I want to limit the "BIG" stuff and use more of the lighter vehicles.
Just wanted a group to start building from. :)

Yeah, I rather over egged the pudding in numbers! Still, two turns later and the field was a lot clearer... That's what combined firepower and a few good old fashioned decapatation shots will do for you :)
Show seemed well attended, and no one packing up till four-ish was nice - looks like trade was good and the games fun?
Sadly nothing shifted in the B&B - anyone need desert hills, sand dunes or a greaco-elf temple do they?!
Didn't get much chance to wander round, except at 900mph, but did get a chance euro say hello to a few people which is good!
What are the hills like?
I had a enjoyable time at WMMS
I didn't get to meet Nathan
I did get to meet Matt of Munslow and was delighted to hold his exquisite Kublai Khan

Dang, I missed both you and Matt & his amazing elephant! By the time I got chance to wander it was packing up time... I did recognise your game on Norms photo report though - did it go well?

I'd say they do it justice; the DZC game board was something else :)
I have to say that that looks to be an excellent show.
It was!
I might demo an invisible man game next year an actually get a proper look round :D
Really nice to see punters still in and games and traders only jut starting to pack up at 4pm as it shut, as opposed to the "empty at 3pm" when it's not so good...
Magister Militum have some great shots of the show on thier Facebook page:

When I lived in Brum I went to this show a couple of times after it moved from Alumwell School. I quite liked it -was a good size with lots to see and ogle at and a good selection of traders.
That Scifi cityscape looks the mutts.
It was cracking in person as well!
Really nicely done.
If I didn't have sci-fi stuff in 6mm and 15mm and technically 28mm already...
yes it was a cracking table but, with the price of their buildings, would probably cost a couple of grand to replicate

True, but nice to look at anyway.

I doubt he'd be there, Isn't he on trial for setting up orgies?
Oh you mean Khan ;)
