The 2015 show season kicks off with the excellent Vapnartak, held at York Racecourse in Sunday 1st February. For more info, head over to the York club website: http://www.yorkwargames.org/Vapnartak.htm
Please get any pre-orders into us before Sunday 25th January!

Snow permitting i'm going to try to get down there.
Vapnartak is always worth a trip.
Wish I could make it, but checked the trains and the earliest I could get there is gone 2pm, so have to give it a miss sorry to say. :'(
I'll hopefully be there, with 2 mini buses full of eager pupils too!
Will be there again this year.
Like Fig.ht I'm reliant on public transport and travelling on Sundays is even more of a pain than the rest of the week :(
I COULD get a bus at 05:40 to get to Vapnartak at about midday ... but I don't think I will!
Still hope that one of these years I'll get back to shows south of the border.
All things being well, I'll be there.
Not that I know any body from this forum (apart from Leon - as a customer/seller).

I'm also attending wih a couple of club members. If anyone wants to say hi I'm 6.6 (over weight) will be wearing a black club t-shirt with my name on it.
Take care
Andy

Yeah. I had to drop my previous username, that I had for years, due to encountering a nutter who kept pestering me.
That got shortened to GB. Then I created the pseudonym I've now got. People were getting confused with my different names on different forums/blogs/FB, so I simplified it.
Roy Williamson's close enough to the truth and is enough of a fake name to provide the small level of security I need from crazy people on the internet.
As long as no one on this forum pesters me, demanding naked pictures of me! Then I won't need to change it again
Have you got any naked pictures then?

When I read RoyWilliamson's previous comment my first thought was "I hope fsn doesn't see this". X_X
I refrained from commenting to avoid encouraging him :-$
Unfortunately he needs no encouragement :-&
He brought it up!
I am just blessed with a healthy curiosity.
Unhealthy curiosity more like it. ;)

The News of the World had first dibs on them, but after the papers demise I had to destroy them all.
My son was engaged to a very attractive girl. When he joined the army his squaddie friends asked "have you got any naked pictures of your girlfriend?" When he rather crossly retorted in the negative, he was asked if he wanted some.
Very good they were too. Artistic. - FSN
That reminds me of the joke ...
[man from Yorkshire asking a woman]
"Have you got any Yorkshire in you?"
- she replies in the negative
"Would you like some?"

We come down the A19, straight down Shipton Road and then around to the right past the train station. It's not usually too bad traffic wise, although we're there at 7-8am normally!
EDIT: Beaten to it! Great minds... ;)
cheers
weather permitting the section 8 boys will be there tomorrow.
Jim
The forecast this morning showed it being cold tomorrow but snow showers confined to the area north of York, so fingers crossed.
At the moment (outside my window at Catterick Garrison) there's hardly any snow left (just the small slushy stuff in tiny patches), the Sun's out, but there is a cold wind.
Hoping it stays fine for tomorrow, as I don't want to make the same mistake as last year and dress for Winter ... and then sweat my nadgers off inside the show!
'Tis the way of things in the centrally heated western world. Think I might have my sartorial elegance sorted for tomorrow.
The Warband rules and two army box sets are first come first served!

The old squaddie banter. Miss it.
Well, just got back from York. Another excellent show.
Time for some tucker and a good veg out with a couple of throw downs.
Yup, I enjoyed the show too, and spent far too much!
Managed to rein myself in today, but still came away with some lovely 10mm buildings from Pendraken, plus other bits and bobs from around the show. Met Szwjczimon and Mollinary, with whom I had a good chat about C19th rules and using different scale figures and buildings for fighting different sized conflicts. Some lovely looking games on, especially 3rd Afghan War, 1919, in which one of my grandfather's fought, a WWI attack on the Suez canal, a magnificent Dux Britanniarum game, a very well presented WSS game and a Peter Pig participation game which was very pleasing to the eye. Unfortunately at the two early C20th century games the participants forgot that they were not at a club night and onlookers might like to know what is going on, what rules are being used etc, rather than being unceremoniously jostled out of the way to enable dice to be thrown at one game or completely ignored after expressing an interest at the other (and I don't mean not heard, I mean ignored - even to the extent that the person I attempted to engage in conversation mumbled incoherently and sidled off very quickly). My travelling companion expressed interest in the WSS game and that particular group was very forthcoming. However, when he expressed an interest in the rules being used he was told they were the club rules - end of conversation. Despite those couple of things I had a good time, got all the stuff I was after, even some D3s, and bumped into some very good company, so all in all a good start to the show year.
I came. I saw. I spent a lot of money at the Pendraken stand.
Bought those rules people are banging on about. Those the WW2 decals I also bought are the star buy for my day, as I'd just bought some Museum Miniatures aeroplanes and was on the lookout for roundels etc.
First time at this show, and was VERY impressed. Great facility, modern, light, spacious, plenty of parking. I was allowed in free as a mark of respect for my advanced age and decrepitude (somewhat surprisingly, a first!). Catering was reasonably priced and excellent, with very good service. Loved the steak and mushroom pie. Good attendance, of all ages, and including a number of ladies. Kids seemed well catered for, with kudos going to the stalwarts who put on a game with Spencer Smith style 18th century figures using the original Charge rules. Everyone seemed to be having a blast. Met lots of old friends, and some new ones. Only regret was spending very little money! Top marks to the York club for a great start to 2015. =D> =D> =D>

Great to read everyone enjoyed themselves. Wish I had been there - maybe wrangle a trip to York with the missus next year? - can but hope.
[As for the shy wargamers, and having run a couple of demo games myself, I can only shake my head ....]
4 of us drove up from the Tring Club for the day, had a really excellent time and found several bargains! I like the tabletop sale idea, it encourages you to go around every hour or so and each time I found something new. It's a good show to visit. Plus Orcs got to amuse himself playing the children's game of "Spot the animals" on the very nice 18th Century game.

Now that's a good idea ;)
Four of us came up from Hertfordshire. We had a good time.
We were unable to eat in the resturant mainly due to the number of people sitting at tables - reading books, checking there phones etc- basically doing anything but eatiing or drinking.
Apart from that it was a good show. Got the most amazing bargain a the table top sale. 100 Pendraken WW2 Americans, half of them nicely painted for "FREE". Thank you whoever you are if you read this forum.
They will form a nice CoC army
Very good show this year, lots to see and plenty to buy.
MY trip to Jorvik. http://luddite1811.blogspot.co.uk/2015/02/vapnartak-2015.html (http://luddite1811.blogspot.co.uk/2015/02/vapnartak-2015.html)
:)
Nice one Luddite.
Crikey, when did you manage to take those photographs, the afternoon?
When I was there most of the areas were standing room only and in some you couldn't even get near the traders for the crush ... maybe I should have attended later in the day, as crowds aren't my cup of tea.
Nice report and good to know who is behind the Warband rules. Good job that man!
Thanks for the report :).

Yeah, tried to get there in the morning but we ended up arriving around 2pm. Even then it was busy, but talking to a lot of the traders it seems it was manic earlier in the day.
We did a 'photo run' around 3.30 and by then things were calming down. I rarely turn up early for shows - hate crowds too. ;)
Excellent pics, Lud....or should I say Mrs Lud.
Looks like a damn fine show.
Cheers - Phil
You should indeed my friend. ;) :D
I think it was first show of the year itis coupled with the sunny, dry conditions. Never having been to Salute, it's a long time since I've been to such a large and busy show. Takes me back to Triples in the old venue.
Which - the hotel Victoria ??
IanS
No. the one before where it is now. Always seemed to be heaving, hot and smelly.
A great report of the show. Me and my mates from Redcar Ironbeards got carried away and were there from 9.45 to 16.00 just looking around. I did get roped into a game of Star Trek Attack Wing by the guys of the York club. It was enjoyable but I prefer X-Wing as a game.
Spent some cash and got more toys to play with :)
A great show as usual.
Thanks go to the team that put it together =D> =D> =D> :-bd
It was all going very well until I came across the chariot racing teddy bears.
Oh dearie me!
Why shouldn't teddys race chariots ??

Well it would be very unfair unless they are allowed good head start as they will be at a big disadvantage as they only have little legs
It was the teddy's on broomstick horses that I felt sorry for! ;D
Trying to think who put that game on ... Brompton Bankers possibly? If it was them, they put on a brilliant Victorian Sci-Fi game at Battleground last November ... though that was a demo and not a participation game (like the teddy's game).
