Hi everyone,
I'm new to the forum, and thought I'd post here to introduce myself, and to add my Want List items here.
I e-mailed Leon a week or two ago, about some new, Cold War era vehicles I'd like to see produced, and it appears he is at least willing to consider some of them for the coming year.
I believe he is planning on posting something here, after the holidays are over, when he gets the time.
First off, to assist, I hope they'll add in a new "Moderns" tab, under the Requests topic, and/or something like that, e.g. Modern - Cold War, etc., in order to make the postings easier to find.
I think that'll help get requests listed in a more central location, where others can view them, and/or post their own. I did see a few other Korean, and Modern want lists, but some of those mentioned other items for various periods, too.
I'm especially interested in the early to mid-Cold War period right now, so am hoping to see more items from the 1950s - late 1970s, or so, added to the product lines.
Here's a sampling of some of the items I've suggested, many of which will work well with their existing early Cold War/Korean War/Vietnam era minis:
M151 Mutt jeeps with machine guns
M114A1E1 and M114A1 Scout vehicles
M-113 with TOW (M-150 designation)
M-901 with TOW
The first two will help flesh out the ability to create Armored Cav Troops for the USA in Europe, with the addition of the M48 tanks, and M-113, and M-125/M106 already available from Pendraken. The latter two are useful for the mid-late Cold War period, in Europe.
M41 tank
M47 tank
M60, M60A1, and M60A2 tanks
Turret options for the M48 hull, e.g. M48A2C (perhaps the existing M48 with the 90mm works for it), but also the later 105mm gun variants for the USA (M48A5), and also the West Germans (M48A2GA2 model - a different turret cupola arrangement to the US variant). Would love to see the Bundeswehr models with smoke dischargers on their turrets, and also on the M-113APC glacis).
The first two for both for West Germany and the USA, in Europe. M41 works for the early Danes too. M60 and variants for various forces.
T-62 (I see perhaps that may already be in the works, and/or completed, which is excellent news)
BMP-1 IFV
BTR-60PB
BRDM-2
The above for the Warsaw Pact and Soviets, though many others around the globe field them too.
Leopard 1 tank and follow-on variants with bolt-on armor on the turret
Marder IFV
Jagdpanzer Kanone
Jagdpanzer Raketes - various models - with SS-11 and HOT missiles, and perhaps even the TOW missile model
Luchs 8 x 8 armored car,
HS-30 with 20mm cannon, and mortar and recoilless rifle variants
Spz Kurz with 20mm cannon
Unimog 1.5 ton, canvas-topped truck
Munga jeep
M577 eventually (command variant of the M113, which works for USA and West Germany), plus many others.
Chieftain V tank
FV-432 APC
FV-438 Swingfire
FV-432 mortar carrier
Infantry for the USA, Bundeswehr, and Soviets/W.P. I believe at least some British troops are already available, and some of the WWII figures can be used for Korea and the early 1950s for the USA. Would love to see some prone figures as well, produced.
Just for grins, and so I can use those nice, little 12mm S-Tanks I got off eBay for a reasonable price, how about a little PBV 302 APC too, so the Swedes can repel the Russians?
So, feel free to post your want lists here as well, to reinforce, and/or add to the items above.
Hopefully, we'll see at least some of them produced, in the New Year.
Welcome to the forum. :)
Nice, well argued, list. 8)
Ian will be happy. :D
Welcome, Mako !
Coo.....Martin's going to be a busy little bee if that list comes off. ;)
Cheers - Phil

I'm NEVER HAPPY.....
Yes that list looks good. I'd add a Chieftain 12 as well - with Stillbrew.

Welcome Mr Mako.
Nice list. Think you forgot the Saracen, Fox and Ferret.
Also no artillery!
Obviously slacking. :P
Welcome Mako. Nice to see more interest in modern period wargaming.
Why stop at the late 70's? The Cold War went on until 89, just a few more years and gives lots of extra goodies :)
Cheers, Rob :) :)

I think quite a few extra vehicle marks/types in all nationalities could be achieved by some add-on extras. Stillbrew armour is a good example with the original armour simply being bolted to the Chieftain turret. Reactive armour for the hulls of Soviet vehicles could be treated in a similar way. T55 is a good example with this addition and a Laser Designator box glued to the gun near the turret makes it a mid 80's Warsaw Pact front line tank. The modules could be provided as extras and super-glued on.
Or alternativly cast a new turret. This latter approach could be used for the different flavours of T72, T64, and T80 turrets with the various 'Dolly Parton', reactive and/or Shtora/Arena type armours, making the job of providing the multitudes of marks and types easier. The Soviet BRDM-2 is another good example. Got to be cost effective too, as the designer makes one base hull and turret and then adds to that to produce a number of commercially available models.
Cheers, Rob :) :)
Good list, Mako, and much I'd like to see myself. However, nothing here happens overnight. Even when the models are designed and ready the moulding and casting process can still drag on. My advice - don't hold your breath. ;)
Oh, and a warm welcome to the forum as well.
Good day gentlemen, and thank you for the warm welcome.
Yea, I'm interested in the 1980s too, especially up to about 1985, or so, before all the wonder weapons made some of the older kit obsolete, but must admit even those are interesting.
I just needed to prioritize my want list, to ensure the more interesting models I'm after, since I realize that perhaps not everything may be produced, and the more that's on the list, the longer it will take to fill.
So, at least for me, Cold War IFVs, and APCs, along with a few light scout vehicles are my first priority.
Then, some of the nicer, Main Battle Tanks for the various nations.
I didn't add in any SPAA vehicles, so would like to see the Gepard, ZSU-23/4, Marder with Roland, M-163, etc. too, eventually, as well as a trailered HAWK missile battery, amongst others.
SP howitzers and the like, while nice, can probably be considered to be off the table, in general, or direct support, in most cases, at least for the rules I'm considering using.
Yes, those nice other little British vehicles would be great too, in addition to the Stillbrew Chieftian.
Did I mention the PBV 302 APC? I definitely need that one, to go with my S-Tanks.
A US M59 APC would be nice too, for the early/mid 1950s - mid-1970s era as well, in some units.
Would love to see the Bo-105 helo with 6 x ATGMs, AH-1G, Hind A/D, and Frogfoot in this scale too.
I've already got some of the Corgi diecast A-10s for NATO.
Best regards,
Rob
Welcome to the Forum Mako.
Welcome to the forum :-h
A sensible well ordered list of requests, showing moderation... are you sure you are a wargamer :-/
Dear Mako, or may I call you Sharkie?
I believe that the odd little hint on the forum now and again helps keep the topic in Leon's brain.

This OIK bombared poor Dave and Leon with over a 1000 posts a day about a certain vehicle. ;)

Good list but still needs 'Technicals' you cant fight a modern African conflict without Technicals, preferably Toyota pickups with a pintle mounted MG in the back. Also can we have ones with Recoilless Rifles as well, pretty please with sugar on the top?
I submit that a US infantry pack of US troops with M-203s could work wonders. It's not perfect, but you could swap it for the M-79 and turn your Vietnam Americans into Cold War Americans (don't use any of the boonie hat troops). And guys with LAWs would fit both.
V/R,
Jack
I agree with the M203 figure, for later periods in Europe, though if pressed, I can still use the M79 for some years.
What is needed a bit more urgently are Soviet Cold War figures to serve as opponents for the Vietnam era minis currently available, as well as a BMP-1, BTR-60PB, and BRDM-2 for the recon units (tip of the spear, so to speak).
They can be used with the T-54 and T-55 tanks already available, plus the BTR-50, BTR-152, and OT-62 vehicles.
West German panzergrenadiers would be appreciated as well, to go with the M48s and M-113s available now, but I'd love to see the HS-30, Spz Kurz recon vehicle, and eventually an early model Marder IFV too. For the troops, initially, we can use WWII/Korean-era figs in US helmets, but with G3 rifles, and MG-42/MG3 style machine guns.
I suspect modifying a few existing figures is probably easier than sculpting from scratch.
Those will permit gaming in the 1950s and 1960s+ Cold War eras in Europe.
I'll make a note of this thread for future reference.

Thank you, Leon.
Almost forgot to add, would love to see at least one prone rifleman, for each of your ranges, e.g. Argentine and British in the Falklands, as well as US Army and VC for Vietnam. The former would be very useful for Cold War Europe as well, and go nicely with those prone machine gunners you already produce.
That'll eliminate the need for pinned, and/or suppressed markers on the tabletop, since I can just swap out standing/kneeling figures for the prone ones, to represent that.
