Title: Music copyright query.
Post by: Techno on 18 December 2014, 03:37:22 PM
Afternoon all.

Forgive me while I have a bit of a waffle.....But something concerning the above puzzles me. (What's new ?....Phil's confused about something !) ;)

A few days ago I thought of 'a tune' that I was rather fond of from the days when almost the only thing in existence, music wise, was vinyl...(I only had this song on a 12" single...I think it pre-dated CDs)...DID it ever exist on CD, I wondered ?
A bit of searching.....AHA !.....There it was on an 'album'.

Hmmmm.....A deleted CD....Bit of a 'premium' price...But not TOO bad, as far as expense was concerned.

'Poop'......I couldn't actually remember properly how the 'tune' went......It was SO long ago that I heard it.
Has anyone popped it onto Youtube ?......They most certainly had.....Damn fine show.....A quick listen there and off to order it.

Then I thought.....Hasn't the person that's downloaded it onto Youtube infringed copyright ?......I thought 'THEY' were all over this sort of thing nowadays.

Thoughts, team.  :-\

Cheers - Phil

Youtube pays the artist these days. Or the record company.

It's possible to make a living off YouTube these days.

Loads of people infringe copyrights on YouTube, it's largely un pursued due to the legal cost of prosecution, TV episode films and the like are also used illegally until removed

Close, but no cigar, Steve...I think I've got everything they've ever released, plus a few bootlegs.

No, Michael.....Though I admit to having bought the first four (?) of his albums before I went off him.

Ahhh....That old favourite....I like the new version, better......The blues number...."Don't let the puppy upstairs, he'll eat the soldiers."

Aha !!.....Thanks ID......I suppose by the time they've been removed, someone else will popped them on YT....Which makes the whole thing somewhat unenforceable ??

Cheers - Phil (Now do I admit what it was, or do you want to carry on guessing ?)

It's ABBA, isn't it? We know about the "I love Agnetha" tattoo. It's written on the Forum, so it must be true.

Remember that copyright is simply the right to be recognised as the owner of the material.   Legally,  copyright is only as strong as the willingness of the copyright owner to prosecute.   It's also covered by'use it or lose it'i think, which is why GW pick a target every now and then.
