Title: Proxy Egyptian Chariot?
Post by: O Dinas Powys on 11 December 2014, 03:27:08 PM
I'm starting work on my Egyptian myth fantasy army for the painting competition and I feel the need for some chariots.

The undead chariots don't quite fit my grand vision for the army, so do any of the other Pendraken chariots come close in design to something suitable?!

Cheers!

I can't think of anything in Pendrakens ranges but have a look at Newline Design, they are pretty good.

I guess O Dinas need to be pendraken in order to the competition.

High elf chariot is the closer to a hittite/egyptian chariot I could think

Hmmmmm ... chariot armies. There's a thing.

Egyptians, Hittites, Minoan, Assyrians ...

That would be nice.  :D

Excuse my naivite, but if this army is fantasy a) what exactly is your vision of this item, and b) does it actually matter what it looks like?  ;)

Providing you can get suitable wheels and horses scratch building chariots isn't a problem, it's basically a four sided box with a pole to the horse yoke.

I made a number of three man chariots for my hittite army, I build a simple box out of plasticard, added a brass axel, wheels from a MM hittite chariot and a central pole to the horses out of brass rod.

For your project I'd look at the Pendraken Indian 2man chariot as a source of wheels and horses.

Traditionally, Egyptian chariots have a curved front and six spoke wheels.

Options range, as you can see, from the Sumerian donkey cart, through the boxy Assyrian chariot, the slightly curved Hittite model to the light and elegant Egyptian one.

I assume the Pendraken Indian two-horser will be pretty boxy but filch the horses and wheels and making a suitable body shouldn't be too hard.

But as Hertsblue says ... Fantasy Egyptians, who knows :)

Thanks for the info guys. Yup, Pendraken for the competition - although I may look at something more "authentic" later! :-[

I have the High Elf chariot and I've realised it's the wheels that are bugging me, so I'll probably order the Indian one and make a composite :-\

Of course it matters what it looks like - it's got to win a painting competition  :D

I'm thinking vaguely authentic in a Hollywoodesque way, complementary to the Anubis warriors it will be leading  :d

Can't say too much more since I'm going head-to-head with Lemmey on this one and I want to keep my sand dry!  :-$ :P

Cheers!

Evening all,

Still procrastinating about which chariots to buy I did a search and found these figures:

Anyone know if they are Pendraken?  If so, which ones?

Cheers again!

The chariots are GW Warmaster high Elf ones, which go for eye-watering amounts on EBay.

The figures crewing them are Pendraken (Dark Elves I think) as are the gee-gees behind them, though those are high elves..

Thanks Ithoriel,

Yeah, the rest of the figures in the auction are all Pendraken which made me wonder about the chariots: http://www.auctiva.com/hostedimages/showimage.aspx?gid=637530&image=681942256&images=681942220,681942224,681942227,681942230,681942241,681942250,681942256,681942261&formats=0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0&format=0 (http://www.auctiva.com/hostedimages/showimage.aspx?gid=637530&image=681942256&images=681942220,681942224,681942227,681942230,681942241,681942250,681942256,681942261&formats=0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0&format=0)
