This one was really intended to give the Egyptians a morale boost. The scenario has an Egyptian response to vague unrest in the Sudan. There were only some Fuzzy camelry and a handful of Bedouin raiders for them to fight.
Understandably anxious at the proximity of those big tribesmen, and aware that fellahin conscripts were not the last word in military prowess, the northerners went onto an entirely successful defensive, not losing one man, and annihilating the natives. Arabi has now decided to pacify the whole Sudan, repudiate the foreign debt, and declare war on France and Britain.
He may have a few surprises coming.
Huzzah!
Nice FK
Looks good!
Most excellent
Looking good.

Second battle is due to be fought in an hour. The revolt is gathering momentum.
Good looking game FK. I like the look of the square taking on a mad dash by the enemy, but supported by some form of machine gun; nice.
The second battle has been fought out. This time the Ansar were out in force and the Egyptians had some trouble. Square still served them well, but their horse got carved up, the general was captured, and morale cracked. Egyptian concerns have moved north, where a British fleet is deciding where to make its landing.
I hope the player I have playing the Egyptians hasn't googled Hicks Pasha and found out what sort of rabble he'll be leading for the next Sudanese foray! Especially since the Fuzzy-Wuzzies will have joined the revolt by then.
Photographs with follow when they've been send to me.
That sounds like a good campaign taking shape there.

Euphemism for senility. Very kind.
Did your Egyptians have any dirty pictures? They are rumoured to have them available for the right cusrtomer.
I always thought they were feelthy peectures.
Aha !
Caught you !...You naughty Mexican spy.....Trying to pass yourself off as an Egyptian.
You can't fool me ! *
Cheers - Phil.
*Actually, you can.....Rather easily, to be fair.
Madre de Dios! Fooling no-one; back to the sombrero it is then.
Actually, Mexicans can dress a lot more spectacularly than ponchos and sombreros might suggest....Great Quetlcoatl, I'm hijacking my own thread!

Those who wish to see the second battle, here are some pix. The focus isn't perfect, but fellow Sudan fans might find the Egyptian camel corps of interest.
That is a good looking game even though the Sudan is not my thing.
Looking good.
(Who is Viljar ?)
Cheers - Phil

Cant see the pic thankfully as my project is almost finished and I really, really, really, really dont want any more...I will have a look when I get home :D
Battle no. 3 today. The British invaded, unfortunately choosing the most obvious landing site, so the Egyptians were waiting for them. It looked like a pleasant chance for a Khedival victory. Until it turned out that the big guns were out of ammunition after a few minutes of firing. A taste of things to come, and the machine guns jammed, the lancers failed to stop the Household Cavalry with a gambling dismounted volley at close range and were ridden down, and the Bengalis rode down the Gensdarmerie (OK, no real surprise there). There were British casualties, including the rout of the Coldstreams (the one Egyptian success of note), but it was very plain after four moves that history was not going to be rewritten today.
Photographs will follow.
Well done for routing the 'Wooden Tops', bet that doesn't get mentioned in the regimental history!
"The Coldstreams were dastardly ambushed by the Egyptians, who inflicted a minor slow down of their advance by wounding the regimental mascot. The Coldstreams then advanced and drove the enemy away from the landing area by attacking back onto their transports and bravely helping the Royal Navy sailors who simply couldn't have managed to row back to the boats without dying"...
Sound about right?
As long as you didn't see 'em running away past the rough, tough, jolly sailor-men.
Nope, that's not in the regimental history, so obviously didn't happen!
Tomorrow, Billy Hicks rides forth. This is going to be an uncomfortable battle for the Imperial force. :)
It was. There were a few special panic rules for Egyptians coming within charge distance of Hadendowah, and the result was remarkably close to reality. Hicks currently imprisoned in Suakin, Gordon dispatched to supervise evacuation of Khartoum, Mahdi ordering a raid on Abbysinia. Pix should follow.
Look forward to those.
Me too! 8)
The Mahdist campaign has encountered its first major deviation from reality. The raid into Abyssinia was repulsed yesterday with crippling losses to the Faithful and minimal losses to the defense. The time stream is now hopelessly compromised, since the besiegers at Khartoum are weaker than expected (Gordon has also beaten off the first attempt to storm the town).
Sir Garnet has landed and has elected to start at once, following the Nile south without waiting to gather camels or train better Egyptian troops. Ironically, he could have spared the time for a more leisurely campaign. It'll be interesting if Gordon has to sally out to rescue him instead of the historical scenario.
Pix should follow soon.
I'm looking forward to this!

The pictures were taken by the Negus of Abyssinia, not me.
That is a very impressive looking game.
Over too soon, however. The Mahdist player bunched his good troops with no room to deploy on the right wing, failed to cover the flanks of his attacks despite favourable numbers, and lost his commander, Ali ibn-Yaq, to a lucky artillery salvo. As if that weren't enough, even the Tuareg mercenaries were too tough in melee for Ansar camelry, and beat them off, which proved costly, since their retreat was now blocked.
(He was Thai, naturally.)
Sir Garnet is now marching up the Nile; pre-battle skirmish in progress.
Lovely looking battle FK ;)
The relief has already failed, Brits have retreated to Egypt, and Khartoum has fallen. We've skipped ahead to Omdurman.
And the campaign is over, Gordon avenged, and Madhism defeated. It was interesting that I included the hidden wadi feature, and what do you know, the 21st charged right in!
