Just a quick note to say hello. I have recently played a few Sudan games with another forum member. So have decided to have a go at some more 19th Century conflicts in 10mm. Just have to decide which one....
Welcome aboard
Hi mikeyboy, welcome to the Forum! We don't have a lot of Shetland members, so we can probably guess who that was! :D
We must have a high percentage of the Shetland population (in relative terms to the rest of the UK) on board now!
Welcome.
Hi Mike!
Hi Mike. Congratulations on becoming a member in your own rite wright right. :)
Welcome, plenty to choose from ;)
Thanks guys.
Yes quite a few gamers in Shetland but not many doing 10mm.
Hello Mike, you have a couple of nice blogs therr.
From a fellow Cadet, a warm welcome to you Mikey (watch out for the rest of them; they're all mad! 8-})

Hello Mike, you have a couple of nice blogs therr.
Is the Napoleonic Wars a 19th Century conflict contender? :D
Good to see you've caught the 10mm bug!
Cheers, Other Mike
I don't think it will be Naps. A toss up between Russo Turkish or Paraguyan. Dabbling in the Sudan meantime.
Hi Mike, welcome to the forum.
Don't worry, the forum members make up for the madness in terms of friendliness, knowledgeability, and supportiveness :-)
Welcome on board :).
I'm not friendly supportive or knowledgeable but entirely mad for sure, welcome Mike prepare to be remade in 10mm image

But isnt FSN from the Shetlands as well ?
Hi Mike welcome aboard... evidently someone else is from Shetland too :-\.
I knew all that waving of 10mm stuff under peoples noses would have some effect eventually :D :D :D
Thanks again chaps for warm welcome.
Steve I have ordered some Egyptians to see how my eyes stand up to painting them and some some sample packs.

Most excellent... Esther has ordered my Christmas surprise from Pendraken - I don't know what it is though...But as I hadn't added any Sudan stuff in. I was going to add in another Dervish army pack but thought that I probably had enough. (says him who is thinking of ordering some North west frontier riflemen to act as different skirmishers)
You do of course realise that I am going to have to move now..I used to be the furthest north in the Uk on the forum and now you have that honor ;D ;D ;D
Is Scotland still in the UK......
IanS :D
Or is the UK still in Scotland?

I lived out in Sandness...but another soothmoother :D
I married into the Islands. My wife originally came from Fetlar. We moved up about 10 years ago so my son would know all of his huge Shetland family.
Welcome Mikeyboy.
If your not mad now - you soon will be :)
Welcome to the forum.
My God I have just suddenly remembered my password! Well my initial attempts with 10mm didn't go so well. I painted some Sudan Egyptians but really struggled. I now have new specs so willing to try again.
Welcome back then old chap!
You forgot the password ......
Mikeyboy. Catch a grip! :)
Hello again!
Missed the first round, mickeyboy. As the only member NOT from Shetland (apparently), welcome to the forum.
The 10's need to be very secure on their painting sticks - the little buggers'll move on ya! Constant yelling also helps and just the
right facial contortion (you may need to try several).
Aye, aye.
I've been painting th 10mm for 4 years now. Not done any that would get into the 2nd round of the painting competition. Though maybe ... this time ...
Who am I kidding? I can barely see the end of my brush, let alone the buttons on cuffs.
Keep at it. Post some pictures so we can laugh sympathise comment supportively.
MORE foreigners, Welcome
IanS
Mikey.....
Everyone else will groan, as I've mentioned this so many times before :-[.....But if you struggle doing the close up work, when painting the wee men, think about getting yourself an Optivisor or something similar.
I know quite a few of the gang here use a type of this 'bit of kit'....and I certainly would struggle enormously if I didn't use mine, when I'm sculpting the little chaps.
Hope that might help.
Cheers - Phil.
Welcome back!
Copydex, tongue depressors and Rolson's version of the Optivisor ... not sure I could paint without them these days.
Copydex gives a nice firm bond between figure and wooden surface of the tongue depressor (aka painting stick) but figures and glue can be easily peeled off once you're done.
I think the Rolson cost me twelve quid plus postage from EBay or Amazon - money well spent.

Good to know. I'll have to see if I can find some. Getting the little figures off the paint stick is always a battle in itself.
FWIW (for my painting results are far from impressive)
I use a 1:1 mix of Elmer's white glue and water which is then brushed on to the painting stick (tongue depressor).
This holds well but the figures will release fairly easily.
I usually use +3.00 diopter reading glasses (you can see over them to see your paint palette easily) and can be had cheap.
When working on figure mods I use these things:
