Title: 1973 Middle East infantry
Post by: Rob on 30 November 2014, 01:50:02 PM
Does anyone have any photographs of the Vietnam range U.S. or French infantry? I am looking for something to mix in with the Minifigs Israeli infantry.

Cheers, Rob  :)

Thanks jchaos those are nice pictures. I think the Vietnam US infantry would do pretty well as 1973 Israeli's.

I don“t have pictures, but I have painted them for Flames of War Vietnam.

I think that in 1973 israeli infantry used the FN FAL assault rifle, that is the one used by the anzac miniatures. You can sculpt a helmet for the miniatures, and the result should be better.

If the era is 1973 then the Falklands range will do well. The British and Argie versions of FN will do as will Vietnam Aussies. Remove the flash eliminator.

But note that the IDF purchased the M16 in the early 1970s in very large quantities.  The choice of weapon will depend on the unit you wish to depict.  Elite forces were up front for the M16.  Reserve units soldiered on with 7.62 FN and even the bolt action Czech Mauser.

The only weapon you don't have in Pendraken is the Uzi.

I think that if you trim the carrying handle off the top of an M16 it will pass quite readily as an FN.

For 67 and possibly 73 you can use the late war WWII brits for Jordanian, and possibly for Israelis - certainly both used the Brodie (soup plate) helmet in 67, the Israelis with reserve units.

Your problem arises in '73, with Egyptians, who will probably have to wait for the Warpac infantry, whenever they turn up.

Love the painting and the basing Matt.

Film of Egyptian soldiers crossing the canal and using Sagger. They are a bit more lightly equipped than Warsaw Pact infantry I think.

But they are wearing the distinctive Soviet-style helmets, and they're not that different.
