Title: Sword and Spear
Post by: Fenton on 29 November 2014, 01:47:57 PM
Played my first game of these this morning, very impressed with them

Nice interaction between the players each turn

They do feel a bit cobbled together from other sets but they work and give a good game even though I was completely humiliated on the table

Had my first game a couple of weeks back - two feudal armies. They tend to mess with your head and, as my opponent said, "You won that, but you've no idea why."

I think this review might be better than me trying to remember it all

I tried them but didn't like them. I went with L'Art de la Guerre  ancients instead and I much prefer them.

In think it all depends you like in games, I came to these after playing lots of Armati and Vis Bellica both of which I really liked compared to DBX . They feel more like Armati and Vis Bellica while playing which suits me

Sounds like good rules then!  How many real engagements have ever gone according to 'plan'?   :)

Well my pdf of the rules arrived yesterday morning and after a quick read through I am quite impressed and hoping to try them out soon. may have to wait a while as my next few games are already planned but at least I can start mentioning them to my gaming friends.
One technical note is I really struggled to print off the fast play sheet as I had not fully downloaded it, but my ancient brain struggles with this sort of thing anyway. Also the points you need to pay for Commanders is hidden away on another downloaded sheet, it took a while to find that too. Hopefully the rules will prove worth the effort.
